While not strictly an IPO, the listing was soon followed by Vietnamese tech unicorn VNG's filing to list on the Nasdaq. As local companies grow, "they are outgrowing the ability of those markets to provide the capital that they need," said Drew Bernstein, co-chairman of accounting firm MarcumAsia. Since the fallout over Didi in the summer of 2021, regulation and a tepid U.S. IPO market have stalled most Chinese listing plans. She said given the success of Southeast Asian ride-hailing company Grab , more Vietnamese companies are starting to look beyond the domestic market to regional business. George Chan, global IPO leader at EY, expects "a lot" of companies from Southeast Asia will reach the IPO stage in the next 12 to 18 months, and might also consider the Hong Kong exchange.

REUTERS/David 'Dee' Delgado/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsDec 4 (Reuters) - Ford Motor (F.N) posted a 0.5% drop in U.S. new vehicle sales for November on Monday, as the automaker worked to restart some of its key plants following a lengthy workers' strike that impacted vehicle production. Ford reached a deal with the United Auto Workers (UAW) union in late October, ending an over month-long strike the company said will cost it $1.7 billion. Ford's CFO John Lawler said in October restarting the plants would be complicated after the deal, which UAW workers ratified in November. Sales of Ford's electric vehicles jumped 43.2%, to 8,958 units from a year ago, the automaker said on Monday. The company reported total sales of 145,559 vehicles in November, compared with 146,364 units last year.

Shares of the EV maker, which has been struggling with a cash crunch, rose 7% in premarket. "Fisker has made a strategic decision to reduce December production to prioritize liquidity to unlock over $300 million of working capital," the company said. Fisker cut its production target for the year to just over 10,000 units, compared with its earlier forecast of 13,000 to 17,000.

Ford takes $1.7 billion profit hit from UAW strike

The automaker now expects adjusted earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) of $10 billion to $10.5 billion for 2023. In July, it forecast adjusted EBIT of $11 billion to $12 billion. Ford said the new outlook included $1.6 billion in lost profits in the fourth quarter due to interruptions in production of high-margin trucks and SUVs. A month into the strikes, Ford said the company was "at the limit" of what it could spend on higher wages and benefits. The deal UAW leaders finally approved included a pay hike of at least 30% for full-time workers and more than double pay for others.

That’s the word from some 3,900 car dealers across the country who on Tuesday wrote President Biden that electric vehicles are piling up unsold on their lots. They want relief from his onerous and unrealistic EV sales mandate. “There are many excellent battery electric vehicles available for consumers to purchase,” the dealers write in their letter to the President.

Hybrid vehicle market share has picked up pace in 2023 despite all the investment pouring into EVs. From October 2022 to October of this year, total vehicle market share for hybrids grew from 6.5% to 11.4%, according to data from Edmunds. Over the same time period, EV market share growth was more sluggish, expanding from 6% to 7.5%. Toyota 's 2024 Prius, often called the "gold standard" in hybrid vehicles, was named MotorTrend's car of the year. The uptick in hybrid sales won't likely spell doom and gloom for the EV market over the long-term.

Photo: Qilai Shen/Bloomberg NewsHEFEI, China— Volkswagen engineers in one of China’s electric-vehicle hubs are looking to the country’s automotive industry for clues about how to speed up manufacturing and beat back local rivals in the world’s biggest auto market. The German automaker has long been the number one manufacturer in a market dominated by gasoline-powered vehicles, but it has been losing market share as China’s market turns electric. It is now trying to figure out how to compete with upstart Chinese makers that can roll out good, affordable and highly digital electric cars—and do so in a third less time.
