People wearing face masks walk by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority on March 4, 2020 in Hong Kong. HKMA said the U.S. interest rate cut will have a positive impact on the economy of the Asia financial center and will provide some room for easing of local interest rates. "In Hong Kong, our financial and monetary markets have continued to operate in a smooth and orderly manner. "The rate cut cycle has just begun, interest rates will remain at relatively high level in the foreseeble future. The public should carefully assess and continue to manage the interest rate risk when making property purchase, mortgage or other lending decisions," Lee added.

They were lucky enough to lock in a 2.79% mortgage rate when they bought it — the average 30-year fixed mortgage rate is over 5% today. However, one non-financial factor began to lure the couple away from Colorado: family. Due to Massachussets' "higher cost of living," Nicole said the move has had a significant impact on their finances. For these people, buying a new home could mean taking on a significantly higher mortgage rate and monthly mortgage payment than they previously had. Lastly, while they live closer to family, Nicole said this hasn't saved them money on childcare.

The Israeli military said it had struck Hezbollah infrastructure and a weapons storage facility in southern Lebanon in overnight airstrikes. Israeli artillery also struck several areas in southern Lebanon, the IDF said in a statement. In northern Israel, at least eight people were injured by anti-tank fire from across the Lebanon border, health authorities said early Thursday. While Israel has not taken responsibility for the attacks, the militant group and Lebanese officials also pinned the blame on Israel. Whether original Gold Apollo products were tampered with, or entirely fake ones manufactured, was still being investigated, a spokesperson for the Taiwanese Economic Affairs Ministry told NBC News.

CNN —Lebanon is reeling after facing deadly back-to-back attacks targeting Hezbollah members – with pagers simultaneously exploding across the country on Tuesday, then walkie-talkies detonating in a similar fashion on Wednesday. At least 22 people, including children, have died so far from the two attacks, which Lebanese officials have blamed on Israel. Firefighters put out flames and a crowd gathers after a reported explosion in Saida, Lebanon, on September 18, 2024. How have Hezbollah, Israel and the world responded? It appears US officials were largely in the dark until reports emerged of the explosions, according to three sources familiar with the matter.

So I can take a photo of your face, and, through complicated AI, I could fool Face ID, for example. If it is the first time, the orb takes the iris code and cryptographically processes the iris code. Individually, neither of those new codes looks anything like the iris code, nor can they be brought back to the iris code on their own. Commuters cycles past the Bank of England (BOE), left, in the City of London, UK, on Monday, Sept. 16, 2024. The central bank's Monetary Policy Committee's interest rate decision is scheduled for release on Sept. 19. LONDON — The Bank of England on Thursday said it would hold interest rates steady following its initial cut in August, even after the U.S. Federal Reserve opted for a jumbo rate cut the day before. The Monetary Policy Committee voted by 8 to 1 to hold, with the dissenting member voting for a 0.25 percentage point cut. Many strategists had expected a smaller 25 basis point cut at the September meeting, despite market pricing through this week pointing to more than 50% probability of the more aggressive option.

CNN —A senior adviser to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has presented to the Biden administration a new proposed ceasefire and hostage deal with Hamas, an Israeli official told CNN. Reactions to the proposal have widely been that it will be a non-starter for Hamas, which has not commented on it. It is unclear whether the proposal addresses the presence of Israeli troops in Gaza after a ceasefire and hostage deal – a key sticking point in stalled negotiations. The Hostages Families Forum, which has been scathing about Netanyahu’s approach to hostage negotiations, welcomed the proposal. They cited Israel’s assassinations of Hamas leaders in foreign capitals, and said they believed Sinwar would prefer to die fighting Israel than to leave Gaza.

CNN —The dappled starlight and swirling clouds of Vincent van Gogh’s “The Starry Night” are thought to reflect the artist’s tumultuous state of mind when he painted the work in 1889. Now, a new analysis by physicists based in China and France suggests the artist had a deep, intuitive understanding of the mathematical structure of turbulent flow. Batchelor’s scaling mathematically represents how small particles, such as drifting algae in the ocean or pieces of dust in the wind, are passively mixed around by turbulent flow. “I think this physical relationship must be embedded in his mind so that’s why when he made this famous ‘Starry Night’ painting, it mimics the real flow,” Huang said. “What I take away from studies like this is that (van Gogh) captured some of this universality in the beautiful (‘Starry Night’),” Beattie added.
