The move is expected to severely restrict the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) from operating in territories Israel occupies. In the Gaza Strip, which has been ravaged by a devastating Israeli war for more than a year, UNRWA serves some 1.7 million Palestinian refugees. The Israeli government has claimed that some of the UN Relief and Works Agency’s (UNRWA) staff are affiliated with Hamas. UNRWA has strongly denied the allegations, but several governments suspended funding for the agency earlier this year while the allegations were investigated. The MP, Yulia Malinovsky, told CNN that US Ambassador Jacob Lew has contacted several opposition leaders, including Avigdor Lieberman, Yair Lapid and Benny Gantz, in an effort to get the legislation stopped. The US State Department told CNN that as a matter of policy, it would not comment on private diplomatic conversations. Malinovsky told CNN that she is determined UNRWA should no longer receive “five-star treatment” in Israel.

An 11-month-old baby died after being accidentally shot in the head by a toddler inside a parked car in San Antonio on Monday, police said. San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said in a press conference on Monday that three children — ages three, two, and an 11-month-old — were in the car with a woman. One of the older children got ahold of a long gun that was located in the back of the vehicle and accidentally shot the infant, McManus said. A grand jury in Arizona indicted a teenager on terrorism charges, alleging he planned to attack participants at the Phoenix Pride Festival, authorities said Wednesday. The suspect, who will be tried as an adult, acquired materials to make an explosive device, prosecutors alleged. The teen, prosecutors said, discussed his intention to make an “unstable explosive that can propel shrapnel and other dangerous items outward, causing serious injury or death to people in the area." In addition to the suspect, the indictment refers to “Juvenile A” and other “unnamed co-conspirators.”The pride festival was last weekend. The indictment said the suspect's motive was to “further the goals” of the Islamic State group, also known as ISIS.

Five people, including three children, were killed Monday in a Washington state shooting allegedly committed by a juvenile suspect who was taken into custody, authorities said. The sheriff's office said three children and two adults were killed. A juvenile suspect was in custody. It was unclear what relationship, if any, there was between the alleged shooter and the victims, the sheriff's office said. A person in their mid-teens, the sheriff's office said, was hospitalized.

Cuba restored a trickle of power to its grid by mid-evening on Friday, officials said, hours after the island plunged into a countrywide blackout following the collapse of one of its major power plants. The Communist-run government closed schools and non-essential industry early on Friday and sent most state workers home in a last-ditch effort to keep the lights on after weeks of severe power shortages. But shortly before midday, the Antonio Guiteras power plant, the country’s largest and most efficient, went offline, prompting a total grid failure and suddenly leaving the entire island without power. For many Cubans, far removed from politics and accustomed to regular power outages, the nationwide blackout was nothing more than a normal Friday night. Russia and Mexico, which in the past have sent fuel to Cuba, have also greatly reduced shipments.
