WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court on Thursday heard two hours of historic arguments in a Colorado case to remove former President Donald Trump from the ballot. Murray gave well-rehearsed arguments that won the day in the Colorado Supreme Court, whose 4-3 ruling that Trump was ineligible got the case to Washington. Salmon Chase, who was then the chief justice of the Supreme Court, heard the case while acting as an appellate judge. Going into the case, the prevailing view of legal experts was the Supreme Court would keep Trump on the ballot. Would it mean a reelected President Trump suddenly becomes ineligible.

An independent special counsel poured kerosene on concerns about Joe Biden’s age with pointed language about the president’s poor memory after concluding Biden had willfully mishandled classified documents – and that his failing memory makes him impossible to convict. ► He appears poised for a win at the Supreme Court. Feeding the frenzy about Biden’s ageIn concluding Biden should not be prosecuted, Special Counsel Robert Hur, a former Trump-appointed US Attorney in Maryland, offered a political indictment of the president’s fitness. Still, larger Trump-related questions loom for the Supreme Court, such as whether Trump enjoys absolute immunity from prosecution. While they're a smaller share of the rental stock, 52% of manufactured units are located in areas with extreme weather exposure. Mitchell joined the case on behalf of Trump around the time arguments were underway at the Colorado Supreme Court. Georgetown’s Supreme Court Institute, for instance, relies heavily on attorneys who have served in the US solicitor general’s office, the government’s top lawyers before the Supreme Court. (The Institute, which operates on a non-partisan basis and offers its sessions for free, declined to comment on the Trump case arrangement.) Particularly valuable for any moot court, along with former members of the solicitor general’s office, are former Supreme Court law clerks. CNN —As Donald Trump wages a Supreme Court battle to stay on state presidential ballots, a potent contingent of the conservative legal world has united behind him. The new filings in the case of Trump v. Anderson also reinforce the tight world of Supreme Court lawyering. From the start, the Colorado voters trying to keep Trump off the ballot, and who won at the state Supreme Court level, have been represented by former US Supreme Court clerks who’ve become prominent advocates. In this screengrab from video, Jonathan Mitchell speaks during a panel on Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia's legacy in April 2016. The 13-year group, known as Brood XIX, or the Great Southern Brood, is the largest periodical cicada brood, stretching across the southeastern United States. The Northern Illinois Brood, or Brood XIII, emerges every 17 years. Periodical cicadas are smaller and mostly black, with bright red eyes and orange-tinged wings and legs. Billions of cicadas are expected this spring as two different broods — Broods XIX and XIII — emerge simultaneously. However, predictions of a cicadapocalypse — in which Brood XIII and Brood XIX show up at the same place at the same time — are probably an exaggeration.

The problem with this approach is that most Republican voters do not want an alternative to Trump; they overwhelmingly back him. At least that’s what the Nikki Haley campaign said after finishing second to former President Donald Trump in the New Hampshire primaries on Tuesday. Democratic nominee Bill Clinton and third-party candidate Ross Perot exploited that division in the Republican Party against Bush in the fall. The Republican Party is united behind Trump, and with optimal conditions for an opponent like Haley, Trump was still unstoppable. “Democrats deserve options, and it’s not clear at all that President Biden can beat Donald Trump.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Lawyers for former President Donald Trump on Thursday urged the Supreme Court “to put a swift and decisive end” to efforts to kick him off the 2024 presidential ballot over his efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss. The Colorado court noted that Trump had held a rally outside the White House and exhorted his supporters to “fight like hell” before they walked to the Capitol. Trump's Supreme Court team is led by Texas-based lawyer Jonathan Mitchell, who devised aspects of the anti-abortion legislation that largely shut down abortions in Texas months before the Supreme Court overturned the Roe v. Wade decision in June 2022. Colorado’s Supreme Court, by a 4-3 vote, ruled last month that Trump should not be on the Republican primary ballot. Both the Colorado Supreme Court and the Maine secretary of state’s rulings are on hold until the appeals play out.

Macy's on Thursday said it will cut about 3.5% of its workforce and close five of its namesake mall locations as the legacy department store moves to trim costs and turn around slowing sales. The move will affect approximately 2,350 positions across its corporate office and stores, company spokesman Chris Grams said. The majority of those — roughly 500 —are its namesake stores, followed by 158 Bluemercury stores and 56 Bloomingdale's stores. The department store chain's footprint has gotten smaller in recent years, however. He said since that 2020 announcement, Macy's had closed about 80 namesake locations and had plans to soon close another five.

At first blush, it seemed to many to be the key to picking former President Donald Trump's lock on the Hawkeye State's Republican base. The alternative vote split roughly in two, leaving Republican Iowa firmly in Trump's hands as the first ballots of the 2024 presidential contest were cast. Trump does not thrive among suburban voters, a group that cost Trump nationally in 2020 and where Haley showed promise Monday. Haley, by contrast, beat Trump in Johnson County, Iowa, a burgeoning tract of homes and businesses along Interstate 80 south of Cedar Rapids. A week earlier, Trump volunteer Jackie Garlock looked around a similar hall in Mason City in northern Iowa on a snowy Saturday, convinced Trump would win.

The path to financing the world's transition to green energy remains unclear. Financing the green energy transition is a trillion-dollar question. AdvertisementThe Deloitte Financing the Green Energy Transition report outlines some core financial levers, starting with a fundamental financial principle: the riskier the project, the higher the cost of capital. The report estimates that getting this right could ultimately reduce financing costs by around $50 trillion by 2050. So, what are the associated risks, and what steps can we take to mitigate them and, consequently, reduce financing costs?
