But whether they are measured by income or educational attainment, President-elect Donald Trump won working-class voters overall while he made strong gains among nonwhite working-class voters like Hispanics and Asian Americans. As recently as 2012, non-college-educated voters were splitting their votes evenly or even slightly in favor of Democrats. But that has left the party’s leaders, donors, operatives and other decision-makers more removed from the lives of low- and middle-income workers, some labor leaders say. But there is widespread frustration that Trump outflanked Democrats to position himself as a champion of working people, as well as dissatisfaction with Democrats not limited to white or male union members. But that policy was not enough to overcome larger societal forces that have led many working-class voters to doubt Democrats’ commitment to their well-being.

WASHINGTON — President-elect Donald Trump announced Sunday that he has selected Brendan Carr to be chairman of the Federal Communications Commission. Carr is the top Republican commissioner on the FCC, the government agency tasked with regulating radio, television and cable communications. "Commissioner Carr is a warrior for Free Speech, and has fought against the regulatory Lawfare that has stifled Americans’ Freedoms, and held back our Economy," Trump said in a. In his chapter, Carr suggested TikTok should be banned if it fails to disentangle from its China-based parent company — an issue on which Trump held conflicting views before he joined the app himself this year. "Congress should do so by ensuring that Internet companies no longer have carte blanche to censor protected speech while maintaining their Section 230 protections," Carr wrote in Project 2025's book.

Social media site X remained the most popular, with 85% of influencer respondents reporting they were on the site. Risk of misinformationQuestions around the influence of independent social media creators on politics erupted prior to and after the presidential election. Both candidates utilized social media to reach younger voters, most notably when President-elect Donald Trump appeared on Joe Rogan's podcast and Vice President Kamala Harris joined the "Call Her Daddy" podcast — both podcasts with large followings on social media. Network interviews in recent elections have tended to be more combative than those conducted on independent podcasts or social media accounts, Darr said.

Their aim is to cut government spending, and one idea they've floated is to ax federal agencies. Almost half a million people were employed in the Department of Veterans Affairs, while the Department of Education had just over 4,000. Most departments had six-figure average salaries, with the Department of Education and the Department of Energy having the highest averages. AdvertisementMen far outnumber women as news influencers on social media, per a new Pew Research Center study. That gender skew is showing up again in the latest platform for news: social media. That gender gap stands out for a few reasons:First, there's a much narrower gender divide (51% male and 46% female) among working US journalists, per a 2022 Pew survey. In Pew's analysis, there was a much smaller (and flipped) gender gap in the overall audience for news content on social media among young people. YouTube had the biggest gender gap, while TikTok's was minimalThe gender divide among news influencers was fairly consistent across all platforms in Pew's study.

New York CNN —President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, Brendan Carr, wasted no time in stating his priorities on Sunday night. Carr is now the senior Republican at the agency, which meant he was widely expected to get the chairman appointment. As chairman, Carr may be able to steer generous federal subsidies to Starlink. In his Project 2025 chapter, Carr laid out an agenda for the federal agency under a future Trump administration. The FCC chairman during Trump’s first term in office, Ajit Pai, had a very different set of priorities.

Carr is an ally of Elon Musk and has previously gone to bat for his company, Starlink. President-elect Donald Trump's nomination of Brendan Carr to chair the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) isn't just a win for conservative opponents of Big Tech. Elon Musk has transformed long-dormant industries, and he’s developed a first principles “production algorithm” to deliver results. In 2022, the FCC denied SpaceX nearly $886 million in government subsidies to provide satellite internet access in rural areas via the company's Starlink service. It's still proving itself as a viable internet service provider and is relatively expensive for the quality, CNN reported in August.

Kennedy brings his addiction worldview to prescription drugs such as those overseen by the Food and Drug Administration, which he would oversee if confirmed as HHS secretary. But Musk denied allegations of past drug use as reported in The Wall Street Journal early this year. Federal employees are barred from taking illegal drugs, and there are no reports to indicate that any of Trump’s Cabinet or other administration picks are using illegal drugs. CNN —“Impoundment” is another word that Americans may need to learn in the vernacular of President-elect Donald Trump’s second term. Trump took the time to record a video about impoundment during the Republican primary season, and he promised seizing control over spending from Congress would be a top priority if he was elected. Impoundment occurs when Congress appropriates money that the president then declines to spend. As a result of these standoffs, Congress passed a law to curtail a president’s use of impoundment, particularly for policy reasons. The Impoundment Control Act of 1974 did a lot more than that, however.

Soon, Trump’s ability to fix America’s affordability crisis will collide head-on with another, perhaps more prominent, campaign trail promise: Mass deportations. And perhaps no industry relies on undocumented workers more than the food and agriculture industries. “The only question is how high prices will go.”Zandi noted that food prices could also be pushed higher by another element of the Trump agenda: Massive tariffs. The Trump transition team did not respond to a request for comment about how mass deportations would impact food prices. And President Trump hasn't been the one that weaponized the DOJ to go after his political enemies.
