Surrounding the partial eclipse will be a penumbral eclipse that begins at 2:01 p.m. The full beaver moon begins to pass through the Earth's shadow during a total lunar eclipse in November in New York. A total lunar eclipse is more aligned than a partial lunar eclipse, with the moon moving completely into Earth’s shadow, while a partial lunar eclipse features the moon passing through only part of Earth’s shadow. The partial lunar eclipse on Saturday comes two weeks after an annular solar eclipse that made a “ring of fire” in the sky over the Americas. CNN —If you are looking for a spectacular show this weekend, look up to find the Orionid meteor shower shining bright through Saturday and Sunday night. This weekend, the moon will be in its first quarter phase and will set near midnight, according to the American Meteor Society. If possible, it is ideal to get away from light pollution and find a spot with a clear view of the dark sky, King said. In early May, Earth passes through a different section of Halley’s orbit trail, resulting in the meteor shower known as the Eta Aquariids. From 2006 to 2009, the Orionids saw anywhere between 50 to 75 meteors per hour, according to the American Meteor Society.

Don't look now, but the market is entering what's historically been a good period for investors. No, it's not McRib season, although there's a case to made that the sandwich's reappearance bodes well for stocks. Rather, investors will be glad to know that October kicks off what is typically a good three months for stocks, following a month in September that historically tends to be rough. The S&P 500 index posted September declines of 3.9% in 2020, 4.8% in 2021, 9.3% in 2022 and 4.7% in 2023. In fact, stocks have gone up in the fourth quarter 79.5% of the time — the highest success rate of any quarter.

The buy signal could help offset the multiple negatives working against the stock market, including bond yield volatility and the conflict in the Middle East. The Almanac's portfolio changes show an expectation of a broad market rally. The moves include buying the SPDR Dow Jones Industrial Average ETF Trust (DIA) , SPDR S & P 500 ETF Trust (SPY) , and the Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) as well as the iShares Russell 2000 ETF (IWM) .

How to see the Draconid meteor shower
  + stars: | 2023-10-08 | by ( Ashley Strickland | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +4 min
CNN —Look up for the Draconid meteor shower this weekend, expected to peak October 8. However, the Draconid meteor shower is on the sparse side. The best way to view the meteor shower is by sitting in a reclining lawn chair or lying on your back and looking up at the sky with a wide view. If you live in an urban area, you might want to take a drive to avoid city lights, which can make the meteor shower seem faint. Meteor showersEach of the remaining meteor showers expected to peak this year will be most visible from late evening until dawn in areas without light pollution.

Many investors expect that could be the capitulation event equities need to bottom out before rebounding. "If you get down to five and a quarter all hell's gonna break loose," Rob Ginsberg, managing director at Wolfe Research. The yield on the 10-year Treasury has spiked sharply to about 4.8% this week, about 1 whole percentage point above where it was in mid-July at around 3.7%. In fact, it won't take much for the positive narrative to start to take hold in markets, Hogan said. Hogan anticipates the S & P 500 could rise to 4,800 by year end, about 13% above where it is currently.

A government shutdown looming on the horizon could dampen sentiment to start October even as Wall Street wraps up what's been a challenging month and quarter. Many market participants expect that the financial markets and economy will broadly shake off concerns from a shutdown as they have in the past. "The market's probably going to set it aside until or unless it starts to have a larger impact on behaviors." Economic impact Historically, government shutdowns have been relatively short-lived, though they have been longer and more disruptive recently. Meanwhile, Jay Woods, chief global strategist at Freedom Capital Markets, expects the government shutdown is "all bark and no bite" when it comes to market reaction.

CNN —The full harvest moon will shine in the early morning hours of September 29, also marking the fourth and final supermoon of 2023. September’s full moon will appear about 5% bigger and 13% brighter than the average full moon, according to NASA. Other monikers for September’s full moon across different indigenous tribes include the corn maker moon from the Abenaki tribe, the moon of the brown leaves from the Lakota people and autumn moon from the Passamaquoddy tribe. Many people associate the harvest moon with being orange in color as it begins to rise, but the same could be said of all full moons. Only part of the moon will pass into shadow as the sun, Earth and moon will not completely align.

For active traders who like to time buying and selling around seasonal events, the next few weeks are Market Timing Heaven. The volatility is encapsulated in one of the more enduring seasonal trades: Sell Rosh Hashanah (which begins at sundown Friday this year), buy Yom Kippur (Sept. 25). Traders sell positions due to seasonal weakness at the start of Rosh Hoshanah, then return to the market after Yom Kippur. The period from Yom Kippur to Passover, which starts on April 22, 2024, is traditionally an up period, good for an average gain of 6.9%. It means market timers expecting seasonal weakness for the next few weeks are also expecting seasonal strength in the fourth quarter.

CNN —August began with a bright supermoon and will end the same way as another one lights up the night sky this week. ET, the bright glow of Saturn will appear about 5 degrees to the upper right of the moon. Over the course of the evening, Saturn will appear to move clockwise around the moon, according to NASA. The second full moon in one month is also known as a blue moon, like the phrase “once in a blue moon,” according to NASA. This results in a blue moon about every 2.5 years, and the last one occurred in August 2021.

Perseid meteor shower will peak this weekend

The Perseid meteor shower will reach its peak this weekend, according to the American Meteor Society. The shower began this year on July 14, and will continue until September 1, though not as many meteors will be visible after the peak. “Meteor showers result in beautiful streaks of light as debris passes through our atmosphere,” Schmoll said. So the less light around when observing the meteor shower means we are more likely to see fainter meteors.”You can catch several major meteor showers later this year, according to the American Meteor Society. After a string of up days, the old market leadership of technology and consumer discretionary is looking tired, and that is probably a good thing. Since 1950, August is the third-worst month for the S & P 500, while September is the worst month. That is "historically extreme," Todd Sohn from Strategas told me, though it is consistent with coming off major market lows. A torrid two-month rally has lifted the S & P Technology Sector (XLK) by 16%, but tech has mostly been for sale in the last few days. Still, for investors in the S & P 500, McClellan says no one should be surprised to see a summer correction in the next month or so.

Away from Rize itself – the seaside city which lends its name to the province – the area’s valleys and plateaus, surrounded by high-altitude mountain ridges, have remained largely rural. With high rates of rainfall, Rize’s mountain villages (yayla) become a point of escape from summer temperatures. “The state of tourism in Rize is not very pleasant because visitors often arrive without much knowledge about the local culture or the nature. “I think the purpose of coming to Rize shouldn’t be to rush through everything and take a few selfies.
