Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the mother and daughter were abducted by Hamas while they were staying at Kibbutz Nahal Oz. Israelis are still reeling from the Hamas assault and from images of fellow citizens being bundled off to Gaza, which is ruled by Hamas. An attempt to rescue all those Hamas said were now held in different locations could jeopardise their lives. American and British officials said they have been working with Qatar to secure the release of hostages, including their citizens, held in Gaza. Israel has also said that there will be no end to its full blockade of the enclave unless Israeli hostages are freed.

LISBON, Oct 19 (Reuters) - Portugal will decide on the size of the stake it will sell in flag carrier TAP once competitors present their proposals, Infrastructure Minister Joao Galamba told a parliamentary committee on Thursday. The Portuguese government plans to sell at least 51% of TAP as part of a plan to privatise the struggling state-owned airline. He said that the government will appoint financial advisors soon and plans to approve the privatisation by year-end, with the process concluding by mid-2024. The airline's privatisation has attracted interest from Lufthansa (LHAG.DE), Air France-KLM (AIRF.PA) and British Airways owner IAG (ICAG.L). Ten years ago my in-laws gifted everyone in the family matching eBags Mother Lode Travel Backpacks for Christmas. The Mother Lode is a big polyester backpack, but not too big, available in seven colors. Compared with the Mother Lode backpack my in-laws gifted me a few years back, the current model—which I handled recently—has a few noteworthy improvements. In all my trips with the Mother Lode, I’ve never experienced a broken zipper, a busted seam or a rip in the polyester. The Mother Lode has proved to be the perfect travel companion.

CNN —An easyJet flight was canceled and its passengers made to disembark after someone onboard the aircraft apparently defecated on the airplane bathroom floor. As the delay extended, the atmosphere on the packed flight was characterized by “suspense and anger,” Gedhu said. So that’s when the stairs reconnected, and the cleaners came on to deep clean the flooring.”According to Gedhu, passengers remained in their seats during the cleaning process. In September, a Delta Air Lines flight from Atlanta to Barcelona was forced to turn around after a passenger had diarrhea. CNN Travel has also reported on an incident on board an Air France flight from Paris to Toronto in which a passenger discovered potentially toxic blood and feces left over from an incident from a previous flight under his seat.

“Since I am a dermatologist and I post a lot on my clinic account, I thought it would be nice to post a reel on bed bugs,” she told CNN Travel. “I was like, ‘I find that very hard to believe’,” Starkey told CNN Travel. Yet in Belgium, doctors in Antwerp are “sounding the alarm” about the spread of bedbugs from Paris, according to The Brussels Times. Colleen Oakley, a bestselling novelist in Atlanta, told CNN Travel she would “absolutely not travel” to Paris right now based on her “awful” experience with the creepy crawlies in 2006. It sounds silly to have panic attacks over bugs, but they are really invasive critters.

Long-struggling SAS, ravaged by the pandemic and pressured by low-cost rivals, sought bankruptcy protection last year. SAS announced last week that Air France-KLM (AIRF.PA) and U.S. investment firm Castlelake would become new major shareholders alongside the Danish state. Total investments by new shareholders, which also include Danish investment firm Lind Invest, in the reorganized SAS would amount to 12.9 billion Swedish crowns ($1.18 billion). STOCKHOLM/AMSTERDAM, Oct 12 (Reuters) - Airlines wrestled with the safety risk of evacuation operations in Israel on Thursday, with carriers including Dutch KLM cancelling flights while sister airline Air France mounted a special relief flight chartered by the French foreign ministry. Israel's parliamentary finance committee meanwhile approved a plan to provide a state guarantee of $6 billion to cover insurance against war risks to Israeli airlines. The framework will grant Israeli airlines cover against war risks, thereby ensuring the continuity of air operations. Foreign airlines have struggled to find a common approach and the head of European budget giant Ryanair (RYA.I) said it was up to governments to plot the way forward. In addition, thousands of troops have been deployed in southern Israel next to Gaza, which Israeli forces withdrew from in 2005. Trying to rescue all those Hamas said were now held in different locations could jeopardise their lives. Yet, protracted negotiations with Hamas over a prisoner swap would be a huge win for an arch foe of Israel. Within 24 hours, 11 Israelis, five Palestinians and a German policeman were dead after a rescue effort erupted into gunfire. Netanyahu could follow a more familiar strategy of assassinating Hamas leaders with air strikes and bombs.

Air France-KLM has tended to let airlines it invests in keep their operations and branding. With the process still in its infancy, Air France-KLM has a chance to make a pitch to TAP now off the back of SAS. LONG FIGHT AHEADThere are remaining challenges for Air France-KLM as it looks to clear regulatory hurdles with SAS, including approval from American and European policymakers. Europe's airline industry has a history of cultural and political barriers to smooth integration, even within Air France-KLM itself. Air France-KLM is a member of the rival SkyTeam alliance.

Shares in Scandinavian airline SAS plunged by 95% as markets opened on Wednesday, after the company announced a restructuring deal late on Tuesday that will see it delisted from exchanges. Losses have since pared back, with shares last down by around 83% at 7:26 a.m. The Danish government is expected to own roughly 26% of SAS, whilst Danish investment firm Lind Invest will have a 8.6% stake, according to SAS. "All of SAS AB's common shares and listed commercial hybrid bonds are expected to be cancelled, redeemed and delisted," SAS said in a statement on Tuesday, adding that this process is expected to take place in the second quarter of 2024. The airline filed for bankruptcy protection in the U.S. in July 2022 amid mounting pressures from pilot strikes and low demand in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
