The pilots of the London-bound American Airlines Boeing 777 took a wrong turn on a taxiway alongside two perpendicular runways. Instead, they crossed 4L just as a Delta Boeing 737 began its takeoff roll down the same runway. A controller warned the American crew about a “possible pilot deviation," and gave them a phone number to call, which the captain did. The cockpit voice recording from inside the American plane was taped over during the six-hour flight to London and lost forever. Investigators said they tried several times to interview the American pilots, but the pilots refused on advice of their union, which objected to the NTSB recording the interviews.

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — A bat descended on the court and delayed play after Victor Wembanyama made a 3-pointer two minutes into the San Antonio Spurs' 113-112 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday night. Herbert Coward, known for his "Toothless Man” role in the movie “Deliverance,” died Wednesday in a crash on a western North Carolina highway, according to authorities. The crash happened Wednesday afternoon as Coward and Bertha Brooks, 78, left a doctor’s appointment, North Carolina Highway Patrol Sgt. Coward and Brooks as well as a Chihuahua and pet squirrel were killed, he said. Coward, who lived in Haywood County, was famous locally for having a pet squirrel, he said. Authorities don’t believe speed or distraction were factors in the crash, Owens said.

Mr. Coward, who went by the nickname Cowboy, was best known for his role in “Deliverance,” which featured Burt Reynolds, Ned Beatty and Jon Voight. The film is an adaptation of a novel by James Dickey about four Atlanta businessmen on a harrowing canoe trip in rural Georgia. In the movie, two of the businessmen come across two hostile mountain men in the woods, one of them being Toothless Man. The men tie one of the friends to a tree, and then force the other to strip down to his underwear and “squeal like a pig.”As the two men contemplate what to do with the friend tied up to the tree, Mr. Coward’s character delivers the line, “He got a real purty mouth, ain’t he?”The four friends are eventually reunited and escape by killing one of the men with an arrow and chasing off Mr. Coward’s character. The scene is brief, but Mr. Coward’s line became one of the more memorable movie lines of the 1970s and the most remembered of Mr. Coward’s career.

NEW YORK (AP) — Broadway audiences will soon be hearing the hit songs of Alicia Keys — not far from where the multiple-Grammy-winner grew up. “Hell's Kitchen,” the semi-autobiographical musical by the singer-songwriter, is making the move uptown from off-Broadway to the Shubert Theatre this spring. The musical features Keys’ best-known hits: “Fallin’,” “No One,” “Girl on Fire,” “If I Ain’t Got You,” and, of course, “Empire State of Mind,” as well as four new songs. “Hell's Kitchen,” in a way, is a full-circle moment for the Keys' family. In 2011, she was a co-producer of the Broadway play “Stick Fly,” for which she supplied some music.
