NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. health officials plan to endorse a common antibiotic as a morning-after pill that gay and bisexual men can use to try to avoid some increasingly common sexually transmitted diseases. The proposed CDC guideline was released Monday, and officials will move to finalize it after a 45-day public comment period. Doxycycline, a cheap antibiotic that has been available for more than 40 years, is a treatment for health problems including acne, chlamydia and Rocky Mountain spotted fever. That kind of antibiotic resistance hasn't materialized in San Francisco, but it will be important to watch for, Cohen said. ___The Associated Press Health and Science Department receives support from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute’s Science and Educational Media Group.

CNN —It’s not the diamonds or the pearls that make Beyoncé that girl, but fashion is a critical part of what’s made her Renaissance World Tour unforgettable. In celebration of her seventh album of the same name, Beyoncé’s first solo tour in seven years featured a wardrobe fit for a queen. For me, during her Renaissance tour she is Queen B Beyond, a timeless queen that moves in a dazzling constellation.”“This ethereal and futurist femininity complements and extends her other looks in the tour that beautifully highlight other aspects of feminine empowerment,” van Herpen added. Here are some of the best looks from the Renaissance tour. Kevin Mazur/WireImage/Getty ImagesThis custom Balmain look by Olivier Rousteing was one of multiple silver ensembles Beyoncé wore on tour.

Glossier, a direct-to-consumer cosmetics company launched in 2014 by US businesswoman Emily Weiss, pioneered this new aesthetic. At Glossier, beauty marks were celebrated, freckles were lionized and makeup application became as free form as finger painting. Beyoncé, Serena Williams, Michelle Obama and Reese Witherspoon have all been pictured wearing the makeup brand to red carpet events like the Oscars and The Grammys. For Meltzer, the brand fell victim to something that often trips up companies leading the zeitgeist: an evolving landscape. But “Glossy” isn’t just a beauty brand biography — it’s a forensic cross-examination of an era-defining company and how it embodied a moment in wider culture.

After switching to a new gynecologist, at 48, she learned that these changes were related to her transition to menopause, known as perimenopause. And that the stress of the job was only making them worse. Ms. Chen says her doctor told her, “‘your body is screaming for you to stop.’”“I hit a wall,” Ms. Chen said. Eventually, Ms. Chen changed her lifestyle and, after a few months, switched to working as a consultant, which allowed her to control her hours and stress levels. Symptoms associated with the transition to menopause, which can last a decade, are often a drag on women’s careers and arise at a time when they may be stepping into larger executive roles.

CNN —Researchers at the University of Dundee have recreated the face of Bonnie Prince Charlie as he appeared when leading the unsuccessful 18th century Jacobite rebellion as he sought to reclaim the British throne for his father. In the image, Bonnie Prince Charlie appears with blonde curly hair, wide eyes and acne on his skin, revealing a different side to the more conventionally heroic figure he has traditionally been depicted as. I did want to show a different angle with that.”The image was created using death masks of the prince, which were photographed and mapped. Using state-of-the-art software, 3D models were then produced, allowing researchers to “de-age” the prince, the university added. A portrait of Bonnie Prince Charlie painted in 1738 by Louis Gabriel Blanchet, is on display at the National Portrait Gallery in London,.

BPA is an endocrine disruptor, meaning that it mimics or interferes with the body’s hormones. It governs weight management and your energy levels, not to mention your skin’s appearance and your ability to fend off illness. Others have tried to argue that some of the chemicals in clothing fell within the legal and regulatory limits. The signs that something is very, very wrong with our reproductive health and endocrine systems are myriad. After all, you might be undoing the benefits of hitting the gym every day when your workout clothes could be doing so much damage to your health.

Investors are overlooking Oddity Tech , which is poised to become a leader in the growing digital beauty and wellness market, according to KeyBanc. Analyst Scott Schoenhaus initiated coverage of the Israeli beauty company with an overweight rating and assigned a price target of $60, suggesting shares stand to gain more than 29% in the next 12 months. "We see ODD in the early stages of its growth story, with near-term tailwinds from its ongoing disruption of beauty and wellness end markets but longer-term growth opportunities that can be unlocked given its unique, differentiated technology," Schoenhaus wrote in a Monday note. Oddity's use of its "nascent hyperspectral technology" and a company-owned biotechnology asset — both powered by AI — will lead to novel beauty and wellness treatments, KeyBanc said. Oddity's legacy IL Makiage brand comprises about 2% of the total beauty market, the note said.

Clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company Sagimet Biosciences could see its treatments reach a breakout stage, which could send its share price soaring, according to Goldman Sachs. The stock has been publicly traded since July 14, and it's trading slightly below its IPO level. Positive results from this phase would support advancement into a pivotal phase three study, she added. The "role of FASN in other indications could offer upside," Tan noted.

I was staying in a friend’s mother’s guest room in Beverly Hills. I had just gone through a big breakup — a falling out with my best friend, which felt like a worse kind of heartache. On one of our last good days, we both auditioned to play a girl with such debilitating acne that she was canceling plans with her friends. And soon she was canceling plans with me. Is It Time to Toss My Skin Care Products?
  + stars: | 2023-07-25 | by ( Erica Sweeney | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +1 min
Q: I have a drawer full of skin care products of dubious age. Unless the product is classified as a drug, as acne treatments and sunscreen products are, you probably won’t find an expiration date on it, said Dr. Bruce Brod, a dermatologist at Penn Medicine. But that labeling is not required on skin care products or cosmetics either, Dr. Brod said. If skin care products are so old that you have forgotten when you bought them, you should avoid using them, Dr. Brod said. “It’s always better to be safe than sorry,” he added, since applying products that are past their prime can come with risks.

What’s driving sunscreen’s big boom

In 2020, the global value of sun care products was $10.7 billion. Millennial skin care favorites — Paula’s Choice ($34), Glossier ($25), Drunk Elephant ($34) — have all created their own luxury daily sunscreens. “I think there is a more pervasive media representation of (the benefits of) wearing sunscreen, like preventing aging and preventing skin cancer,” Waldman said in a phone interview. In a study published in 2021, scientists found that more children in middle and high school were wearing sunscreen, a trend researchers partially attributed to social media. Meanwhile, young influencers on TikTok parade their multi-step skin care routines, with many featuring products like retinoids and AHAs, celebrated for their role in minimizing signs of aging.

Stress, even with the myriad of negatives it brings, can be addicting. Stress can cause a natural high by activating the arousal and attention centers in our nervous system, which, if prolonged, can be "as addictive as drugs," Hanna warns. In other words, your chronically stressed-out brain could be dependent on those small, euphoric hits of dopamine, says Debbie Sorensen, a Harvard-trained psychologist who specializes in burnout. But glorifying being busy all the time, both inside and outside of work, can be dangerous, making chronic stress and burnout all more likely. Research has shown that chronic stress, if unchecked, can cause high blood pressure, IBS, acne, and other health issues.

CEO David Mowry and activist investor J. Daniel Plants, who has served on the board for eight years, were terminated for alleged violations of their employment contracts, Cutera said. RTW Investments, Cutera's second biggest investor with a 9.3% stake, called on the company to reinstate Mowry and to hold a special meeting. Market reaction to Mowry's removal "demonstrates the need for the Special Meeting and the lack of confidence in the board," RTW said in a statement. Top Cutera executives, including the chief financial officer, on Tuesday supported Mowry and Plants, arguing the men work well together and had earned their trust. The California-based company, which sells devices including laser treatments for tattoo removal and acne, appointed independent board member Sheila Hopkins as interim CEO.

Now Amazon Clinic, which launched in November, is looking to open up a new option for virtual care to help with common issues like allergies, acne and hair loss. That hasn't come without some setbacks – Amazon Care, its effort to take on telemedicine and primary care for the employer market nationwide, was shut down in August after just three years. Health care, he said, can at times be correctly described as paternalistic. "Care can be a thing that we do to patients rather than with patients or for patients," Ayogu said.
