Oil prices jumped 4% on Monday before shrugging off those gains in subsequent sessions, and gold prices have inched higher by a little over 1% since the attack. "Global markets have yet to fully price the inflation risks from developments — from higher oil prices and more defense spending," Savage cautioned. That would cause the premium [of oil prices] to go higher," said Rapidan Energy Group's President Bob McNally. This could spike oil prices well north of $150 per barrel," Alpine Macro said in a note following the incursion. One analyst is of the view that even if the conflict prolongs, its implications on global markets is still largely contained.

The Iron Dome has been a crucial part of Israel's first line of defense for the past decade. The cost of the Iron Dome is under scrutinyAn ongoing controversy about the Iron Dome is its cost — some of which has come out of US pockets. If the Iron Dome were shown to be less effective under heavy fire, that cost-to-benefit ratio might shift. Per reports, the Iron Dome has continued to intercept short-range fire coming from Gaza over the past few days. One of the unique things about Iron Dome to date has been its ability to learn as it goes on and become more effective.

While Israel produces very little crude oil, markets worried that if the conflict escalates it could hurt Middle East supply and worsen an expected deficit for the rest of the year. Israel's port of Ashkelon and its oil terminal have been shut in the wake of the conflict, sources said on Monday. A brief history of Gaza's 75 years of woe

Hamas formedTwenty years after the 1967 war, Palestinians launched their first intifada, or uprising. It began in December 1987 after a traffic accident in which an Israeli truck crashed into a vehicle carrying Palestinian workers in Gaza's Jabalya refugee camp, killing four. Israel stopped tens of thousands of Palestinian workers from entering the country, cutting off an important source of income. Israeli air strikes crippled Gaza's only electrical power plant, causing widespread blackouts. Israel took revenge, hammering Gaza with air strikes and razing entire districts in some of the worst blood-letting in the 75 years of conflict.

Israel's southern coastal city of Ashkelon, which has a small port well in range of Hamas rockets, is not allowing ships to enter, shipping sources said.
