Air Canada's customer service chatbot told Moffatt he could claim the discount after the flight. Botshit is one example of how the use of AI might worsen companies' customer service. In January, a UK parcel company removed its new AI customer service chatbot after it swore at a customer. However, the researchers argued that customer service is the least risky use of AI for businesses.

The study excluded nations that already faced a risk of direct conflict with China, the US and their respective allies. On the other hand, America's top allies don't share American fears that a massive Chinese military buildup and Chinese leader Xi Jinping's avowed determination to "reunify" Taiwan with China are steps toward war, but rather may be nationalistic posturing. AdvertisementYet if Japan, Australia, Britain and Canada are reluctant to confront China, there are actions they can take to help Taiwan. In addition, the four middle powers could play a role in mediators to prevent a Taiwan war from happening. British Columbia is Canada's second-most-visited province for a reason. Johnstone Strait, a glacier-carved channel between mainland British Columbia and Vancouver Island, is especially beautiful — and you might even see a humpback whale in the water if you visit at the right time. One of my favorite experiences on the province's Vancouver Island is kayaking around the shores in the morning. I watched Steller sea lions glide through the water, and a river otter play on a nearby dock. Once you're done with the water, venture along to visit some of the nearby picturesque communities like Telegraph Cove and Hanson Islands.

A handful of states, including Texas and Nevada, have set up dedicated systems designed to restore tenants to their homes after an illegal lockout. She and her family still don't have a new apartment, she said, and the eviction cases on her record don't help. BI reviewed two years' worth of lockout cases from the department and found city lawyers routinely dismissed tickets, often without documenting why. Bridget Bennett for Business InsiderThat afternoon, Brown had three cases on his docket in which tenants were alleging they'd been illegally locked out and dozens of cases in which landlords were seeking formal evictions. In 2022, Miami-Dade County passed a tenant's bill of rights that underlines the illegality of lockouts and limits a landlord's ability to harass tenants.

Tarriela later told a news forum that the Chinese vessel's moves were "an intimidation on the part of the China Coast Guard." China claims sovereignty over the reef and most of the South China Sea, but an international tribunal ruled in 2016 that China's claims to waters within its "nine-dash line" had no legal basis.

Like the American federal government, Canada's national government doesn't have a lot of control over housing policy. Related storiesOverall, the federal push has already been quite successful in changing the housing policy landscape across the country, Moffat said. Over the last several years, an influx of new immigrants, rampant investor speculation, and rapidly rising construction costs have also sent prices up. It would also impose a fine on cities that tolerate "NIMBY" — the anti-development "Not in My Backyard" philosophy — opposition to housing construction. Some American fans of Canada's Housing Accelerator Fund suggest it could be a model for US efforts to incentivize denser and more abundant housing construction.

De minimis shipments have also grown more popular with American brands looking to save money in their supply chains. Even though awareness of de minimis has grown, Section 321 shipments still account for only about 5% of ShipHero's business overall. Across the planet, basalt rock deposits on the sea floor have the potential to trap carbon dioxide, removing the heat-trapping gas from our atmosphere. First, the scientists need about $60 million to test a prototype at sea. Basalt rock is highly reactive, full of metals that readily grab CO2 and chemically combine with it to form carbonate minerals. AdvertisementSolid Carbon scientists say carbon rock is stuck on the sea floor for thousands of years. They also argue that in the ocean, there's plenty of room to scale up and little risk of disgruntled neighbors fighting the project.

"Hotel workers and people that get tips, you're going to be very happy because when I get to office, we are going to not charge taxes on tips," Trump said at the Las Vegas rally. More than 1 in 4 private sector workers in Nevada are employed in the tip-heavy hospitality industry, according to up-to-date state figures. The European Central Bank began easing interest rates on Thursday, cutting its benchmark rate by 0.25%. Investors and economists expect the Federal Reserve to follow suit and cut interest rates in September. This combination means there's a good chance that the September cut Wall Street is praying for may never materialize. The US already has somewhat higher interest rates than other countries — the Fed's benchmark rate is 5.25%- 5.50%. And in Asian economies, where interest rates are already significantly lower than in the US, things could get even messier.
