Donald Trump proposed mass deportation to lower housing costs and boost job opportunities. A pump jack operates in an oil field in Midland, Texas U.S. August 22, 2018. Oil prices tumbled more than $3 a barrel on Monday after Israel's retaliatory strike on Iran over the weekend bypassed Tehran's oil and nuclear facilities and did not disrupt energy supplies, easing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. Both Brent and U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures hit their lowest levels since Oct. 1 at the open. The geopolitical risk premium that had built in oil prices in anticipation of Israel's retaliatory attack came off, analysts said. In October, the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and their allies, a group known as OPEC+, kept their oil output policy unchanged including a plan to start raising output from December.

Monday is light on the data front, but traders are looking ahead this week to fresh jobs figures and consumer confidence data in the lead up to the U.S. presidential election on Nov. 5. Investors will also continue to digest a slew of central bank commentary following last week's IMF meetings in Washington, D.C., with Federal Reserve policymakers now in a blackout period which prevents commentary ahead of next week's interest rate decision.

And how should investors be thinking about future equity returns as the bull market enters its third year riding stellar multi-year performance and facing demanding valuations? So, expansionary policies that would quicken the economy's metabolism and produce more inflation was exactly what the market craved then – but now? Right now, he has his sights set on the US election, with its high stakes and wide range of economic possibilities. AdvertisementThe third scenario is a Trump win with a Republican sweep, which Barraud believes is the most likely outcome. In the short term, it would have a positive impact on US economic growth, creating a GDP boost in 2025 between 2.1% and 2.3%, he said. If Harris wins with a dividend Congress, yields could drop further from where they are, he said. This time, election forecasting includes monitoring multiple poll-betting markets with the highest volume of users to gauge election outcomes.

With the Federal Reserve rate-cutting cycle now underway, income investors may want to take a closer look at their portfolios. In this environment, Vanguard likes higher-quality, fixed-income assets. However, with high yield credit, Vanguard is focusing on bottom-up security selection due to the dispersion among issuers. CCC-rated bonds gained 12.5% year to date, as of Sept 30, versus the 4.3% return in AA credit, according to Vanguard. Individual investors can get access to corporate credit through mutual funds or exchange-traded funds comprising investment-grade or high-yield bonds.
