After flatlining the week before, mortgage demand rose last week, despite mortgage rates increasing for the fourth straight week. Total application volume climbed 1.7% compared with the previous week, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association’s seasonally adjusted index. An NYPD officer and another woman were shot in Queens by an armed robbery suspect who was believed to be responsible for multiple robberies within the span of just about an hour, according to police. As police searched for the suspect, officers were flagged down by a witness who pointed out a man on Jamaica Avenue and 160th Street. TJX Companies touted a "strong start" to the holiday shopping season on Wednesday, but its shares slid after the fast-growing retailer offered guidance that appeared to underwhelm Wall Street. "The fourth quarter is off to a strong start, and we are excited about our opportunities for the holiday selling season. For its holiday quarter, TJX is expecting comparable sales to grow between 2% and 3%, largely in line with the 3% uptick that StreetAccount analysts had expected. TJX is standing by its comparable sales guidance of 3% growth for the full year, just shy of the 3.2% growth that StreetAccount analysts had expected. It raised its pretax profit margin outlook from 11.2% to 11.3%, which matches StreetAccount's expectations, along with its earnings per share guidance.

Expectations are high for Nvidia's earnings. Momentum behind Nvidia's Blackwell ramp Wall Street majors view Nvidia's Blackwell platform — which should be generally available in the January quarter — as a multibillion-dollar revenue opportunity for the chipmaker. Nvidia had said in August that it expected about "several billion" in Blackwell sales during the January quarter. According to Piper Sandler analyst Harsh Kumar, Nvidia could deliver between $5 billion and $8 billion of Blackwell revenue in the January quarter. Analysts are also largely undeterred by recent concerns about a recent report from The Information that Nvidia's Blackwell NVL-72 server racks are experiencing issues with overheating.

Target shares plunged as much as 18% in premarket trading after the retailer posted disappointing third-quarter earnings and lowered its financial guidance for the year. On Wednesday, Target reported adjusted earnings per share of $1.85, down just under 12% year-over-year. AdvertisementIn the release, Target also cut its full-year financial guidance, saying it expects earnings per share of between $8.30 and $8.90. At its second-quarter earnings in August, the retailer said it expected full-year EPS of between $9 and $9.70.
