Ajit Jain, Warren's Buffett's insurance chief and top executive, sold more than half of his stake in Berkshire Hathaway , a new regulatory filing showed. The 73-year-old vice chairman of insurance operations dumped 200 shares of Berkshire Class A shares on Monday at an average price of $695,418 per share for roughly $139 million. That left him holding just 61 shares, while family trusts established by himself and his spouse for the benefit of his descendants hold 55 shares and his nonprofit corporation, the Jain Foundation, owns 50 shares. Monday's sale represented 55% of his total stake in Berkshire. "This appears to be a signal that Ajit views Berkshire as being fully valued," said David Kass, a finance professor at the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business.

When researching the properties, he confirmed their tax status as short-term rentals on the county site. Jason Gobey, another short-term rental owner, told BI he researched and spoke to real-estate agents as well as others before buying his one-bedroom condo in Kihei in 2019. He also said he confirmed the property's tax status as a short-term rental and had no idea there could be an issue with it. Though some of the Minatoya List properties will likely be converted to long-term rentals, Church said it is not financially feasible for him. But the benefit of adding the Minatoya List properties to the housing stock is that they are already built.

With Hunter Biden on trial, special counsel spending grows
  + stars: | 2024-08-23 | by ( Katelyn | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +3 min
CNN —Special counsel David Weiss’ office spent a total of $3.4 million over the past six months, a dramatic increase as it took Hunter Biden to trial in Delaware on gun-related charges and secured a conviction of the president’s son. Spending by two other Justice Department-appointed special counsels, Jack Smith and Robert Hur, decreased slightly compared with the six months prior. The disclosures come as courts have upped their scrutiny of special counsel office operations. Hunter Biden and another defendant in a separate criminal case have so far been unsuccessful in attempting to challenge special counsel Weiss’ authority. Challengers including Trump have argued that shouldn’t be allowed because Congress didn’t specifically sign off on the special counsel offices.

Only a quarter of countries enforce a limit above that. The United States is one of them: Its limit is set at 0.08. Experts say that’s one reason for the 13,500 drunk driving deaths here every year, according to the most recent data.

According to the Maui Economic Development Board, around 70% of every dollar in Maui County is generated, either directly or indirectly, by the tourism industry. New York CNN —The stage is now officially set for a high-stakes showdown between the NBA and TNT parent company Warner Bros. WBD, the parent company of CNN, paid for matching rights when it struck its current deal with the NBA. In doing so, the NBA argued that WBD’s offer was not a legally valid match since it would also be broadcasting the games on TNT. And it should be noted that the contractual paperwork giving WBD matching rights is pages long and not simple. Zaslav and his deputies believe that they have a robust legal argument and that they are indeed entitled to use their contractual rights to match Amazon’s bid.
