CNN —Striking actors and the Hollywood studios will resume negotiations on a new labor contract on Monday, SAG-AFTRA, the actors’ union, said Wednesday, the same day writers ended their own strike in the entertainment industry. Several executives from the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers member companies will be attending the meetings, the union said. The writers and actors had been negotiating over many similar issues, such as compensation as streaming has changed the entertainment industry and the role of AI in creating movies and shows. SAG-AFTRA has been on strike since July 14, joining the fray a little more than two months after the writers strike began. Since then, the two unions have seemed to operate in lockstep with each other.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Tens of thousands of hospitality workers who keep the iconic casinos and hotels of Las Vegas humming were set to vote Tuesday on whether to authorize a strike amid ongoing contract negotiations. The Culinary Workers Union, a political powerhouse in Nevada, hasn't gone on strike in more than three decades. Some 53,000 housekeepers, cocktail and food servers, porters, cooks and bartenders in Las Vegas are taking part. The Culinary Union is the largest labor union in Nevada with about 60,000 members in Las Vegas and Reno. Last summer, the casino workers’ union in Atlantic City negotiated landmark contracts that gave workers the biggest raises they’ve ever had.

The resolution of the writers’ strike will not restore Hollywood to normal, as the union representing more than 150,000 actors, SAG-AFTRA, is striking separately and has demands that exceed those of the Writers Guild. No talks between the actors’ union and the studios are currently scheduled. But the writers’ agreement could expedite negotiations, as some of SAG-AFTRA’s concerns are similar to ones raised by the Writers Guild. The actors have been striking since July 14. Among other things, the actors want 2 percent of the total revenue generated by streaming shows, something that studios have said is a nonstarter.

One person close to the matter said that, as a result, writers could potentially be back to work in just days. Hong Kong CNN —Union workers have called off strikes at liquefied natural gas facilities belonging to Chevron in Australia, ending a standoff that could have affected about 7% of global LNG supply. “The Offshore Alliance will now work with Chevron to finalize the drafting of the three agreements and members will soon cease current industrial action,” it added. Workers at Chevron’s Gorgon and Wheatstone facilities began walking off the job two weeks ago over pay and other conditions. “There has not been a material impact on global LNG supply. CNN —The United Nations’ human rights body (UNJHRO) has received reports of at least 13 mass graves” in the Sudanese city of El Geneina, a special envoy to the war-torn country told the UN Security Council Wednesday. The mass graves are believed to contain civilians from the ethnic Masalit tribe who were killed in attacks by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and allied Arab militias, according to Sudan Volker Perthes. The Masalit tribe and other non-Arab communities in Sudan are often targeted by Arab militias, with support from the RSF, according to Human Rights Watch. At least 87 people, mostly ethnic Masalit, were discovered in a mass grave in El-Geneina’s Al-Madaress and Al-Jamarek districts in July. Last week, the United States imposed sanctions on RSF’s deputy leader Abdelrahim Dagalo for human rights violations after a series of CNN investigations exposed the group’s brutal war strategies.

BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — Spanish state prosecutors have filed a lawsuit against Luis Rubiales for sexual assault and coercion for kissing a player on the lips without her consent after the Women’s World Cup final, the country’s prosecutors’ office said Friday. Prosecutors presented the suit to Spain’s National Court in Madrid two days after Hermoso formally accused Rubiales of sexual assault. According to a sexual consent law passed last year, Rubiales could face a fine or a prison sentence of one to four years if found guilty of sexual assault. Prosecutors have asked the judge that Rubiales appear before a court to give preliminary testimony. The dispute between the five unions representing the players – including many of Spain’s World Cup-winning squad – and Liga F primarily came about because of a disagreement in the minimum salary for players and the wage gap which exists. The new law eliminated the difference between “sexual harassment” and “sexual assault,” sanctioning any unconsented sexual act.
