AdvertisementFor more than a decade, Big Tech companies doled out lavish perks to hire and retain a limited supply of technical talent — and some workers pushed the limits of these benefits. AdvertisementBusiness Insider interviewed tech workers and industry experts about Grubgate and the evolving relationship between Big Tech companies and staff. They also described how layoffs, efficiency drives, and tougher policy enforcement have shifted the culture at once easygoing tech companies. According to job marketplace Trueup, at least 650,000 tech workers have been cut since the start of 2023. Alongside industrywide layoffs that began in 2022, many tech companies also trimmed back the benefits on offer.

Investors face diminishing returns from cash alternatives as interest rates decline. Today, cash alternatives are yielding slightly less. Specifically, those who didn't have liquidity needs but chose to sit in cash anyway missed out on a strong year for the S&P 500. If liquidity needs arise, investors may be able to sell for a profit if the Fed's cutting cycle is steeper than expected, he added. Simply put, the M2 money supply, which includes cash and cash alternatives, has skyrocketed since 2020 by over 36%, debasing the dollar.

Take Alexis Ohanian, the 41-year-old Reddit cofounder and Serena Williams' husband, who recently posted on X about his (relatively high) testosterone levels. RoWhen LaSara's cofounder John Snedegar opened up his brick-and-mortar men's health clinic in 2017, "nobody" was specializing in men's sexual health, he said. But he typically recommends lifestyle changes, like more exercise, eating better, and getting good sleep, which all naturally help to boost testosterone levels. Researchers such as Berumen worry the branding of men's health clinics prop up impossible standards of manhood.

Astronomers have never detected dark matter, but they believe it makes up about 85% of the total matter in the universe. Meanwhile, the existence of dark energy helps researchers explain why the universe is expanding — and why that expansion is speeding up. A prime example is the European Space Agency’s wide-angle Euclid telescope that launched in 2023 to investigate the riddles of dark energy and dark matter. Euclid this week delivered the first piece of a cosmic map — containing about 100 million stars and galaxies — that will take six years to create. These stunning 3D observations may help scientists see how dark matter warps light and curves space across galaxies.

Recent consumer survey data on iPhone sales points to a lack of growth for Apple , according to KeyBanc Capital Markets. AAPL YTD mountain AAPL, year-to-date Nispel thinks the iPhone SE is "not purely additive" to overall iPhone sales, citing data from the firm's consumer iPhone survey for September. Additionally, among those who are likely or extremely likely to upgrade to the iPhone 16, 61% are interested in the iPhone SE. "We think this shows the iPhone SE is not incremental, and could possibly be cannibalistic to iPhone 16 sales," the analyst wrote in a Thursday note. "From our view, if iPhone SE is successful, iPhone Units could rise but [average sales prices] could fall, contrary to consensus."

Freddie Freeman played Kirk Gibson this time, lashing Nestor Cortes’ first pitch over the right field fence for the first walk-off grand slam in World Series history. Will Smith made him pay with a sacrifice fly to right field in the next at-bat to give Los Angeles a 1-0 lead. In the fifth inning, Soto misplayed a Hernández triple down the right-field line, which Statcast estimated had a 5 percent catch probability. Then, in the eighth inning, Ohtani blasted a double off the right-field wall. For all of his offensive success, Soto’s biggest weakness remains his defense, which cost the Yankees in Game 1.

While a drain snake is incredibly helpful in clearing up your sink or bathtub drain, it’s important to prevent hair and other particles from building up in the first place. A drain snake is effective at cleaning out a bathtub drain, but they could potentially damage pipes if used improperly. Instead, use an enzyme-based liquid cleaner if you prefer that over a drain snake. If you have to unclog your bathtub drain but don’t have a drain snake, you can try using an enzyme-based cleaner, such as the Mighty Mint Drain Maintainer with Enzymes, to clear out the pipes.
