(And in doing so, gave rise to a generation of hilarious “That’s why, for this pride month, I’ve partnered with” memes. But more damaging than the cringe of a tone-deaf tweet about diversity is when companies give up on the performance altogether. This week, Molson Coors, a longtime sponsor of Pride events and partner to LGBTQ+ nonprofits, joined the list. A Molson Coors representative declined to comment beyond the memo. Coors Light may have looked at its rival getting pummeled by right-wing pundits and feared being the next target.

Lowe's staff members were targeted via a Google ad for an employee portal claiming to be associated with the retailer. It's not a problem with Google, per se; malicious ads can also show up in queries using other search engines like Microsoft's Bing. "You see something appearing on a Google search, you kind of assume it is something valid," said Stuart Madnick, professor of information technology at MIT Sloan School of Management. Also avoid calling a telephone number listed in a sponsored ad because it could be a fake telephone number. Many privacy browsers have embedded ad blockers; consumers may still see sponsored ads, but they will see fewer of them, which minimizes the chances of malvertising.

The fastest-growing suburb in the U.S. isn't near a major city like New York, Miami, or Los Angeles. In August, GOBankingRates looked at the population change from 2020 and 2022 and focused on cities with a 9% or greater change in the same years. The suburbs had to have a July 2024 home value below $500,000. The South reigned supreme, with six regions in the top 10—Mooresville, North Carolina took the No, 1 spot on the list. In July 2024, Mooresville had a home value of $480,430 and a 29.94% change in total population over the 2020-2022 period.

Molson Coors is the latest addition to a growing list of companies reversing their diversity, equity and inclusion policies. Molson Coors will also ensure all corporate charitable giving programs are focused on supporting "core business goals" such as alcohol responsibility, disaster relief efforts and promoting access to higher education. Although conservative activist Robby Starbuck characterized the moves as preemptive changes in response to his probe into the company's DEI practices one week ago, Molson Coors says in its memo that the decision "has been in process since March." Molson Coors' decision comes after a wave of retailers over the summer took a step back in their DEI efforts. Corporate DEI practices received renewed interest in the wake of the murder of George Floyd and the Black Lives Matter protests of 2020, but have struggled in the aftermath of the Supreme Court decision to overturn affirmative action in colleges.

Despite its cheeky title, Sabrina Carpenter's new album "Short n' Sweet" arrived on Friday with a tall order to fill. Carpenter's sixth album was preceded by smash hits "Espresso" and "Please Please Please," which peaked at No. But "Short n' Sweet" isn't just Carpenter's most anticipated release to date. AdvertisementIndeed, throughout "Short n' Sweet," Carpenter isn't coy about the vulgar, demoralizing underbelly of modern dating. "Short n' Sweet" is an album grounded firmly, almost defiantly, in the present day — all the struggles and ridiculous ills of dating app-era romance, which, despite the disappointment, usually make for great wine-night fodder.

Management blamed "higher interest rates and greater macroeconomic uncertainty" for pressuring consumer spending on home improvement projects. The recent data certainly supports the idea of a rate cut at the Fed's mid-September meeting. However, that's weeks away, we know things can turn on a dime in the data and the stock market. Lower rates can certainly impact the stock market — but when it comes to picking individual stocks, we remain focused on earnings. U.S. high school graduates looking for entry-level work might consider starting out at a company appearing on a new ranking from the American Opportunity Index. Released earlier this month, the list named 50 large companies as the best places for people with a high school diploma to launch their careers. The index scored companies based on three metrics: how likely they are to hire entry-level employees, promote them from within and set them up to land better-paying jobs when they leave. "We didn't see a whole lot out there for the 40% of high school graduates who aren't going off to post-secondary education immediately — most of whom have to find some sort of work," he continues. Rather than survey the companies, the index analyzed the career paths of around 5 million workers from 2018 until 2022 to make its assessment.

For example, this season started with the banks roaring higher on great numbers, legitimately great numbers led by a phenomenal Bank of America quarter. The later just made no sense because it is pulling away from Intel on the low end and if Nvidia really does have production problems then AMD is the de facto winner. In fact, the only stock that didn't suffer from an Nvidia relation, Apple, got through earnings without too much trouble. According to experts, while it can be costly, new windows can provide significant benefits like lower outside noise and better energy efficiency for the entire home. Wood windows have a traditional look that can be styled with just about any color. “You just need to keep them clean.”The only minor difference between vinyl and wood windows regarding maintenance is sealing and painting. Alexander says that if you have wood windows, they should be sealed or painted if they are exposed to rain or snow. According to experts, a window’s insulating value is called its U-factor, and lower numbers have the best insulation for energy efficiency.

Certain stocks should be winners as the Federal Reserve seeks to lower short-term rates, if history is any guide. Short-term yields have been falling this week in anticipation of a Fed action. CNBC Pro screened for the stocks in the S & P 500 that tend to rise the most when short-term rates decline. The majority of stocks are in businesses that would benefit from lower rates. There are also often volatile stocks that would benefit from lower rates increasing risk-taking by investors.

Massive shark is struck by boat in rare video footage
  + stars: | 2024-07-24 | by ( Jackie Wattles | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +6 min
CNN —Rare footage captured by a camera strapped to the back of an endangered shark shows the jarring moment it was struck by a boat — prompting the animal to dash into deep waters and rest for hours. It’s not clear whether the massive 23-foot (7-meter) animal, known as a basking shark, ultimately survived the collision. The basking shark is a massive creature, growing up to 40 feet (12 meters) long, and is among the largest fish in the world — second only to the whale shark. But the video and study findings that came out of the incident are timely for the shark research community, noted Dr. Christopher Lowe, the director of the Shark Lab at California State University, Long Beach. Protecting basking sharksMcInturf emphasized that Ireland — and the United Kingdom — have already taken significant steps to help protect endangered basking sharks.
