Coca-Cola on Wednesday reported quarterly earnings and revenue that topped analysts' expectations, thanks to a boost from higher prices that offset sluggish demand. Unit case volume fell 1% in the quarter, driven by weakening demand in some international markets. Consumer companies, including Coke, have reported in recent months that customers are more price sensitive, leading to sluggish demand for its products as prices remain high. Pepsi said volume for its North American beverage business fell 3% in its third quarter, fueled by weakening demand for energy drinks. Coke is projecting a low-single-digit headwind for comparable revenue and a mid-single-digit headwind for earnings per share.

Inspired by successful e-commerce entrepreneurs, I decided to try my hand at selling on Amazon. I set a budget of $5,000, enough to launch something basic and an amount I was comfortable losing. These conversations got me thinking: Is starting a profitable Amazon business … simple? We'd been toying with the idea of starting an e-commerce business since the spring of 2023, when I mentioned one of the Amazon stories I was working on. Double the founders would mean not only double the budget but double the skillset and the network.

New York CNN —The strike by 33,000 workers at Boeing will continue after rank-and-file union members rejected an offer from the company in a vote on Wednesday and decided to remain on the picket lines instead. The membership of the International Association of Machinists voted 64% against the deal, the union announced late Wednesday. “Our members deserve more,” said Jon Holden, the president of the largest IAM local at Boeing and its chief negotiator. The offer would have raised wages for IAM members at Boeing by 35 percentage points over the four-year life of the contract, with an immediate 12% raise. Loss of pension a ‘sticking point’Among the major issues for many members was the loss of a traditional pension plan.

The stakes are high for Tesla when the electric vehicle giant reports results after the bell Wednesday. Analysts polled by LSEG expect the company to report earnings of 58 cents per share on $25.37 billion in revenue. The company posted adjusted earnings per share of 52 cents and revenue of $25.50 billion last quarter . Stakes are even higher for the company following an underwhelming robotaxi event earlier this month that failed to impress Wall Street analysts and investors hopeful for a turnaround. He retained an equal weight rating and $220 price target, implying shares will trade in a range from here.

That is the Boeing unit that has been the most troubled, but the strike affected only the last two weeks of the three-month period. Boeing reported a $2.4 billion operating loss in its space and defense business, which is not affected by the strike. “First and foremost on everybody’s mind today is ending the IAM strike,” Ortberg told investors. Members of the International Association of Machinists from Boeing hold a march during an ongoing strike in Seattle, on October 15. Fortunately for Boeing, it is not likely it will be forced out of business by its current financial crisis.

He then looked at the diverging fortunes of those restaurants that went on to receive a Michelin star — a signifier of excellence in the industry. By 2019, Sands found that restaurants given a Michelin star were more likely to shutter. The publicity created around an award such as a Michelin star drives interest. But he pointed out that even if they ultimately failed, the Michelin restaurants that closed in Sands' research generally had a pretty good run. In many ways, "what to do about growth" is a classic question in any business, including restaurants and hospitality.

That means GM is selling cars at higher average prices this year than it was in 2023. During the strike, the UAW’s slogan on the picket lines was that record profits should result in a record contract. Its new guidance suggests that the full-year earnings will now top the record profit of 2022. The strong results and guidance sent shares of GM (GM) up 2% in premarket trading. Walmart will start to deliver prescriptions to customers' doorsteps. As CVS and Walgreens shutter hundreds of stores nationwide to shore up profits and investor sentiment, Walmart said Tuesday that it is offering a new option for customers: delivering prescriptions to their doorsteps. The prescription delivery service is another example of how Walmart is trying to outmatch competitors on convenience along with low prices. Still, it is unclear how much market share Walmart could win from CVS and Walgreens, both of which offer same-day, one-day and two-day prescription deliveries. Walmart's delivery service will be available for new prescriptions and refills, the company said.
