The latest benefit from the artificial intelligence revolution: saving American taxpayers billions of dollars. The U.S. Treasury Department said its increased use of artificial intelligence in fraud detection helped prevent or recover more than $4 billion over the past year. "Helping ensure that agencies pay the right person, in the right amount, at the right time is central to our efforts." A Treasury official declined to provide specific examples of how AI had been deployed, given the nature of the activities targeted. An independent, bipartisan review identified “numerous mistakes” by the U.S. Secret Service and “specific failures and breakdowns” that enabled the assassination attempt that injured former President Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, in July. “The Secret Service as an agency requires fundamental reform to carry out its mission," the members added. The new high bested a previous record of $140.76, which was set on June 20. Shares of Nvidia rose to a new record on Thursday as investors piled back in to the artificial intelligence trade that had stalled a bit since the summer. The stock rose more than 3% at one point to briefly tap a new intraday high of $140.89. Nvidia's intraday record comes after Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company , the world's largest chip producer, beat third-quarter earnings estimates and posted a 54% increase in profit. Nvidia stock hit a closing high of $138.07 earlier in the week, topping its prior record of $135.58 set on June 18.
