Soccer Football - FIFA Women's World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023 - Final - Fans in London watch Spain v England - BOXPARK Wembley, London, Britain - August 20, 2023 England fans react after England lose the world cup final Action Images via Reuters/Andrew Couldridge Acquire Licensing RightsLONDON, Aug 20 (Reuters) - England soccer fans went home in bitter disappointment on Sunday after losing the Women's World Cup final 1-0 to Spain, but in defeat many of them also found inspiration and hope for future generations in the sport. "They might have not won, and it's so sad, but they've done so much for women's football, and that's what matters," said Jennifer Maidment, a 25-year-old student who watched the game in London. The scale of the national excitement reflected the growing public profile of women's soccer in England, where the team's run to the final built on their victory at the European Championship last year. "We never had any role models as girls when we were younger, so to have role models now is amazing. For older generations, the progress since the first England women's international match in 1972 was clear.

How to find a morning routine that works for you
  + stars: | 2023-08-20 | by ( Upasna Gautam | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +6 min
I don’t think my way is the best way, and I don’t believe it’s a universal prescription for the “best” morning routine. Prepping meals for breakfast or lunch can be a part of some people's early morning routines, but you should find out what works best for you. I often get asked how I stay consistent with a morning routine. I’m going to approach this new chapter of life and redefining my morning routine by answering those same four questions. When coming up with a new morning routine, prioritize one new goal at a time and build out a plan to achieve that goal, an expert suggests.

Lolita, an orca at the Miami Seaquarium that had entertained guests for more than 50 years before the park bowed to public pressure and planned to release it into the ocean, died on Friday. The orca, also known as Tokitae and Toki, had shown “serious signs of discomfort” over the past two days before she died of what was believed to be a renal issue, the Miami Seaquarium said in a post on Facebook. “Toki was an inspiration to all who had the fortune to hear her story and especially to the Lummi nation that considered her family,” the Seaquarium said. “Those of us who have had the honor and privilege to spend time with her will forever remember her beautiful spirit.”Under pressure from animal advocates who protested against the Seaquarium, officials there announced in February that it was preparing to return Lolita to the ocean. The Dolphin Company, which owns the aquatic park, said in March that relocating Lolita would happen in about 18 to 24 months.

The "AI for business" diploma offers training in data and AI for client leaders, practitioners, and WPP executives, according to WPP's website. The team work under AI expert Daniel Hulme who was appointed chief AI officer at WPP two years ago. While lawmakers and philosophers alike still debate whether content produced by generative AI models amounts to anything like human creativity, advertisers have already begun using the technology in their promotional campaigns. Unilever, which owns more than 400 brands including Dove soap and Ben & Jerry's ice cream, has its own generative AI technology that can write product descriptions for retailers' websites and digital commerce sites, it said. The company's TRESemmé haircare brand has used its AI content generator for written content and its automation tool for visual content on Amazon.co.uk (AMZN.O).

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Russia's Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu visit an exhibition of armed equipment on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Korean War armistice in this image released by North Korea's Korean Central News Agency on July 27, 2023. The Hwasong-18 has been tested twice, including on July 12 in what was the longest flight time ever for a North Korean missile test. Russia and North Korea have recently called for closer military ties but North Korea has denied having any "arms dealings" with Russia. The Hwasong-18 clearly takes some design inspiration from Russian missiles, in this case Topol-M and Yars, just as many other North Korean missiles do, the CNS researchers said. "There is nothing sudden or surprising about North Korea’s continued development of large solid propellant rocket motors," they said.

Scientists have analyzed letters written by Vlad the Impaler in the 15th century. Traces of protein on the letters suggest he suffered from hemolacria, which causes blood to be present in tears. There are a wide variety of disorders that can cause blood tears, ranging from blood clotting issues to unusual menstruation. Analysis of the proteins found traces of a bacteria that causes plague, but this disease is not linked to blood tears. "To our reckoning, this is the first time such research has been carried out and has helped to bring to the limelight the health status of Vlad Dracula the Impaler," the authors said in the study.

The widely followed analyst named the social media stock his favorite name within the firm's internet small/mid-caps universe. Mahaney pointed to the company's partnership with Amazon as a potential driver of advertising growth, and said Pinterest also had opportunities to further monetize its platform. "It appears that the Amazon partnership is progressing faster than expected, and we believe this can bring materially incremental advertiser demand to the Pinterest platform," Mahaney said. "Unlike some other Online Advertisers whose tools are communication-based or consumption-based, we believe Pinterest's primary use cases (inspiration, discovery, action) may face relatively less competition," Mahaney said. Pinterest stock has climbed 10% in 2023.

A Ukrainian engineer is trying a novel method of mine-clearance: adapting a farm excavator. Video shows whirling chains strike the ground as the digger moves forward, blasting hidden mines. The design takes inspiration from the WWII-era Sherman Tank, some of which were also kitted out with spinning chains to clear mines, Reuters reported. A commander speaking to The Post also said that Western-supplied mine-clearing equipment has proved a disappointingly easy target for Russian artillery to strike. On Monday, the US announced a new $200 million aid package to Ukraine, which includes de-mining equipment.

Even though it’s still August, eyes are already on how the upcoming holiday shopping season will pan out. Coresight expects the 2023 year-end holiday sales for October through December to be up by just low single digits from a year ago. Harmon said this year’s forecast rests on the shoulders of “a couple of good years of strong holiday sales growth, making comparisons more difficult, and takes into account holiday spending is occurring sooner.”“The patterns of holiday spending have changed. The same pattern was repeated last year, effectively elongating the holiday sales season. At the same time, Harmon said US retail sales are slowing.

Hints of a progressive Californian spirit were soon in evidence, as composers started appearing onstage at Symphony Hall in Boston to introduce their works, and the atmosphere began to feel more engaged. But Samuel lasted a mere 18 months, stepping down in January for reasons that are still not clear. Smith, who for a long time was the adventurous Philharmonic’s programming guru, is hugely respected, and his hiring is cause for excitement, if some trepidation. In addition, Elizabeth Rowe, the principal flutist whose distinctive, ever-so-slightly melancholy tone has defined the sound of the modern Boston Symphony, has announced that she will leave her position next year. She sued the orchestra in 2018 to secure pay equal to that of the oboist who sits to her left, John Ferrillo.

BREAKING VASES IS an occupational hazard for florists, but for Wagner Kreusch it’s also a source of inspiration. The Brazilian-born, London-based botanical artist collects ceramics from makers around the world and when one of them accidentally slips through his fingers, he saves the fragments, reconfiguring the shards on the floor of his studio to look like the vessel has just toppled over, and arranges flowers (he prefers wild flora such as amaranth and mimosa) amid the chaos. Most recently, Kreusch, a certified ikebana instructor, transplanted a cluster of foraged roadside marigolds, root systems intact, and placed them amid a half-smashed terra-cotta garden pot he found at a market in Porto, Portugal. “They looked like they broke the vase to free themselves,” he says of the unruly cluster of yellow blooms. The gravitational pull is both literal and metaphorical; by building on the floor, they’re at once returning flowers to the earth (if only symbolically) and repositioning a flower arrangement’s hierarchy in a given room — these are designs that demand space, that shift the balance of focus from the mantel or dining room table, that make life a little inconvenient for the occupants.
