They ranged from questions about the Electoral College to specific inquiries about why ballots in some counties look the way they do. We’ll add answers to new questions weekly until the election and also send them out to the What Matters newsletter audience. CNN did not project that President Joe Biden would win the 2020 election until four days after Election Day. -- Linda in WashingtonThere were a lot of questions about the Electoral College, which should frustrate people on both sides of the aisle. I’m not including the election of 1800, even though it resulted in a tie in the Electoral College.

It isn't an accident that people who want to cancel a subscription often have to navigate a web of bureaucracy and confusion. "Actual affirmative consent from a consumer," Witte said, would establish trust between the consumer and the company, boosting loyalty. Along with litigation from the CFPB, state attorneys general have pursued legal action against big companies over hard-to-cancel subscriptions. Last year, Letitia James, New York's attorney general, sued SiriusXM over claims that the radio company trapped customers in subscriptions and maintained a complicated and burdensome cancellation process. The student gunman in a small-town Iowa school shooting in January in which two people were killed and several others injured was known to have a fascination with school shooters and exhibited a number of unreported “warning signs,” the Iowa Public Safety Department said Friday. “There is significant evidence of this shooter’s fascination with prior school shootings” and there was also evidence of “copycat behavior” in his actions, Stephan Bayens, commissioner of the Iowa Public Safety Department, said in a news conference. The evidence bears that out.”“Those concerns, along with a number of other warning signs, were unreported or were otherwise unrecognized,” Bayens said. He said the shooter exhibited “broad behavioral issues” and mental health concerns that were present years before the shooting. The shooter was “suicidal coupled with a homicidal intention to take others with him in an effort to gain notoriety,” Bayens said.

At a town hall hosted at a high school outside Philadelphia, Musk referred to the false conspiracy theory that Dominion Voting Systems was part of a plot to rig U.S. elections in recent years. There’s always this question of, say, the Dominion voting machines. Fact: Hand counts and audits of such paper ballots have repeatedly proven that Dominion machines produce accurate results. CNN —Editor’s Note: One Small Thing is a new series to help you take a simple step toward a healthy, impactful goal. But a little more investment in your community may make a big difference, said Dr. Gail Saltz, clinical associate professor of psychiatry at the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. One in 5 adults in the United States reported feeling loneliness “a lot of the day yesterday,” according to Gallup data released Tuesday. Building back deeper, more intimate connections may feel hard to do quickly to address your loneliness, but turning your attention to invest in your community may be one small thing you can do to help, Saltz said. Even small daily interactions with strangers in a coffee shop can help boost your mood when you're feeling lonely.

New York CNN —These past few years, it seems like food companies have been playing some serious mind games with us. As food companies have seen their costs rise substantially over the past few years, many have used two sneaky strategies, dubbed shrinkflation and skimpflation, to avoid having to raise the prices of their goods. Yet when companies simply pass along price increases to consumers, there’s also no shortage of backlash — just ask McDonald’s. So the days of shrinkflation, at least when it comes to food, could be numbered. “I would expect (food companies) to shift their strategy and find a different mind game to play that maybe people are not quite looking out for yet,” Hydock said.

Harvard donations are down following a year of campus turmoil. AdvertisementHarvard saw a dip in donations in the most recent fiscal year amid a wave of big-name backers pulling their financial support after fallout from the university's response to the Israel-Hamas war. In fiscal year 2024, which ended June 30, the Ivy League institution brought in just under $1.2 billion in cash gifts, according to a Harvard financial report released Thursday. Some wealthy alumni publicly vowed to suspend donations to Harvard following the university's bungled response to the campus unrest that spread across higher education institutions nationwide last year. Earlier this month, Garber hinted at the coming downturn in donations, telling the university's student newspaper, The Harvard Crimson, that the year's commitments were "disappointing" compared to prior years.
