New York CNN —Millions of Miniverse toy sets made by toymaker MGA Entertainment have been recalled because they pose a serious risk of skin burn, eye and respiratory irritation when touched, inhaled or ingested, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission said Tuesday. The recall involves the “Make it Mini” sets which contain resins that, when liquid, can cause those injuries and irritations to young children and adults alike. The CPSC also found that the resins contain chemical compounds called “acrylates” in amounts that are prohibited in children’s products. The CPSC said MGA Entertainment has received 26 reports of incidents with the toy sets from children and adults, including reports of skin burns and irritation, and respiratory irritation, with one report that it triggered a case of asthma in the user. 21 million Miniverse toy sets are being recalled due to danger of skin burn, eye and respiratory irritation.

The company on Tuesday announced a set of new safety features, including expanded warning pop-ups that appear when a teen receives a message from someone they don’t share mutual friends with or have in their contacts. And Snapchat will now prevent the delivery of friend requests for teens to or from an account that they don’t share mutual friends with that is also located in regions often associated with scammers. Meta in April also announced new features aimed at combating sextortion, including informing users when they’ve interacted with someone who engaged in financial sextortion. Now, when a user blocks another account, any new accounts created on the same device will also automatically be blocked. The updates build on Snapchat’s existing teen safety features, which include a “Family Center” where parents can supervise the behavior of 13- to 17-year-old users, and mechanisms for removing age-inappropriate content.

The billionaire entrepreneur noted that Turth Social is tiny compared to other social media. AdvertisementTrump Media's stock price is "absurdly out of the realm of normal business," according to LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman. Trump Media is worth just a fraction of LinkedIn, which was bought out for $26 billion in 2016. For reference, TMTG made just $4.1 million last year and lost $58 million, according to its financial statements. "Trump Media is probably more appropriately valued close to $40 million rather than several billion."

But the LinkedIn co-founder is dumbfounded by the size of the social media fortune former President Donald Trump is sitting on. Trump’s conservative social media company, Truth Social owner Trump Media & Technology Group, is valued by Wall Street at a whopping $6 billion — even after a recent plunge in its share price. “That is wildly high,” Hoffman, who is now a director at Microsoft and a venture capital investor, told CNN. The technologies designed by the company will include both the user-interface software that runs things like the entertainment system and gauges and deeper vehicle software that interacts with things like the vehicle’s motors. Gen Zers, it turns out, are "not on a linear journey to evaluate the veracity of anything." In other words, Gen Zers know the difference between rock-solid news and AI-generated memes. For Gen Z, checking what other people are saying in the comments isn't shallow. The aim is to reach Gen Z readers where they live — scrolling through the comments — and turn them into subscribers. But I'll confess that I worried about the idea that Gen Z checks the comments to decide what to believe.

Oracle warns that a TikTok ban would hurt business

A U.S. ban of TikTok might hurt Oracle 's business, the software company acknowledged in its annual report on Monday. TikTok said Oracle would also be responsible for compiling the app and delivering it to third-party app stores. "The one thing I can tell you is we have an excellent relationship with the folks at TikTok," Oracle CEO Safra Catz said on a 2022 conference call with analysts. Following the bipartisan legislation this year targeted at TikTok, and Biden's signing of the bill mandating its sale, TikTok filed a lawsuit arguing that the law violates First Amendment free speech protections. Oracle's cloud infrastructure revenue for the fiscal year came to $6.9 billion.

Major record labels Sony Music , Universal Music Group and Warner Records sued artificial intelligence companies Suno and Udio on Monday, accusing them of committing mass copyright infringement by using the labels' recordings to train music-generating AI systems. The companies copied music without permission to teach their systems to create music that will "directly compete with, cheapen, and ultimately drown out" human artists' work, according to federal lawsuits filed against Udio in New York and Suno in Massachusetts. Representatives for Suno and Udio did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the complaints. AI companies have argued that their systems make fair use of copyrighted material. Cambridge, Massachusetts-based Suno and New York-based Udio have raised millions in funding this year for their AI systems, which create music in response to user text prompts.
