It's wild how many job listings might be fake

Companies often post bogus roles to ease employees' concerns about being overworked and signal that the organization is growing, said Resume Builder, which recently found three in 10 employers have fake job listings. The reasons for listing fake jobs included signaling that the employer was willing to hire from outside the organization. Haller said employers that dangle fake listings risk hurting themselves by undermining their reputations. AdvertisementFake listings can lead to real jobsAbout seven in 10 of the fake jobs were on a company website or LinkedIn, according to the survey. And, yet, despite all the shenanigans, many fake listings often lead to real interviews — and even employment.

Activist Commentary: Starboard is a very successful activist investor and has extensive experience helping companies focus on operational efficiency and margin improvement. With 90%+ gross margins and 35% operating margins, Autodesk is a leader in AEC software. Further, its operating margins are not much worse than those of its peers at first blush. However, Starboard correctly does not judge the company's operating margins on the mean of its peer set, but by the potential embodied in its gross margins and market position. He no longer serves on the board of Autodesk, but he could certainly be an informal advisor to Starboard – or a cautionary tale for Autodesk.

How the vodka soda became 'gay water'
  + stars: | 2024-06-22 | by ( Alex Harring | ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +11 min
The combination of soda water and vodka has long been a fixture of boozy LGBTQ+ life, particularly among gay men. One of those came from Houston-based lawyer Jeff Watters, who called the vodka soda the "gay water" of the nighttime in a post on X. Retail is also central to the business for Gay Water, a startup offering canned cocktail variations of vodka soda. The former's vodka soda citrus is 100 calories per can, while Gay Water contains 80. The Gay Bar Shop, a specialty retailer, sells an 11-ounce, $49 candle that smells like a vodka soda with a lime garnish.

Going After the Middleman

They’ve zeroed in on what may sound like a nerdy legal theory, but one that could have huge implications: the tyranny of the intermediary, middleman companies that abuse their role by squeezing out competition or creating artificially expensive moats. The Justice Department has already made one high-profile strike along these lines, suing to break up Ticketmaster and Live Nation. It is reportedly investigating at least two others. One is RealPage, a property management company that uses artificial intelligence to suggest prices and has already been sued by renters accusing it of facilitating a new type of collusion. The second is UnitedHealth Group, the health care conglomerate that owns a cobweb of businesses that include an insurer and another unit that employs about 10,000 physicians in the United States.

Nvidia had some strong moves in the days after its 10-for-1 stock split traded in the market on June 10. Tuesday brought weaker-than-expected May retail sales , which the stock market took in stride, perhaps on the view that softness helps the view that the Federal Reserve will indeed cut interest rates later this year. Ultimately, the economic readings this past week signal that while U.S. growth remains resilient, things are slowing, which is an ideal setup for stock market bulls. The Fed's favorite inflation gauge and the tail end of earning season will be drivers of the market in the week ahead. Chinese carmakers accounted for 88% of the EV market in Brazil and 70% in Thailand in Q1, according to ABI Research figures. The EV markets in many of these countries are small now, but they're growing rapidly. This is because Chinese automakers are known for their ability to build electric cars for less than their foreign competitors. Australian Senator and shadow cyber-security minister James Paterson said earlier this year that Chinese EVs pose a growing cybersecurity risk. "India is still a little wary of the Chinese market," said Dylan Khoo, an analyst at ABI Research.

She settled into the chair across from him, wiped the tears from his face, and the traditional Muslim wedding ceremony commenced. From the ceremony to the after-party, the entire evening was a lavish affair — and the logo of their cannabis company, Gumbo, was a motif throughout the wedding. Both had long careers in those industries: Ms. Major, 45, was a manager for N.F.L. players; Mr. Butler, 47, who goes by Luka, worked with various musicians and record labels in management, marketing and promotion. They wanted to develop an alternative pain management option, Ms. Major said, so they created Gumbo, which sells cannabis products in a variety of consumption forms.

The Biden administration on Friday outlined its plans to curb new American investment in critical Chinese technology industries that could be used to enhance China’s military, further straining economic ties with Beijing at a time when trade tensions are rising. The proposed Treasury Department rules would prohibit certain U.S. investments in Chinese companies that are developing semiconductors, quantum computers and artificial intelligence systems. The Biden administration is trying to restrict American financing from helping China develop advanced technology that could be used for weapons tracking, government intelligence and surveillance. They come nearly a year after President Biden signed an executive order calling for the investment ban, which will largely affect venture capital and private equity firms that do business with Chinese companies. “This proposed rule advances our national security by preventing the many benefits certain U.S. investments provide — beyond just capital — from supporting the development of sensitive technologies in countries that may use them to threaten our national security,” said Paul Rosen, the Treasury Department’s assistant secretary for investment security.

Enterprise software customers are seeing their profits shrink from high interest rates and weakening consumer spending, which is reflected in cost-cutting initiatives such as shrinking software budgets. The best software stocks to buy in today's environmentAccording to UBS, the current software industry offers investment opportunities for cybersecurity and cloud infrastructure stocks. Cybersecurity is a promising growth area, with potential for rapidly increasing demand, UBS said. Demand for cloud infrastructure — the combination of hardware and software needed for cloud computing — is also increasing. The big storyEmerging markets have been on tenterhooks for the better part of this year as the Federal Reserve has been dangling the prospect of an interest rate cut. Historically, as U.S. interest rates fall, the allure of the mighty dollar fades to the benefit of other currencies. There lies the disconnect between the economy, the stock market, and a single stock. AI is replacing human tasks faster than you think

That’s in addition to creative tasks for which some businesses are already relying on ChatGPT and other AI chatbots to assist, including crafting job posts, writing press releases and building marketing campaigns. The findings show companies are increasingly turning to AI to cut costs, boost profits and make their workers more productive. Nearly 60% of all companies (and 84% of large companies) surveyed said that over the past year they have already leaned on software, equipment or technology including AI to automate tasks employees previously did. Bosses are turning to AI for a variety of reasons, including to trim what they are spending on human workers. Human jobs will be replaced — but will be replaced by other humans using AI,” he said.
