The Monegasque was 0.065 slower than Sainz's pole time of one minute 34.356 seconds in a windy session at the undulating circuit outside Austin. "The last lap wasn't the best, Carlos did a better job today and deserves to be on pole," said Leclerc. CNN —For much of the 2022 Formula One season, Max Verstappen’s inevitable march to a second consecutive world championship felt more like a procession than a competition. “We note the findings by the FIA of ‘minor overspend breaches of the financial regulations’ with surprise and disappointment,” Red Bull said in a statement earlier this month. The FIA has yet to announce how Red Bull will be penalized for breaching the cost cap. “But Red Bull have not only made the best of the new regulations, but they seem to have a driver in Max that is driving at a level that I’ve not seen since Lewis Hamilton. CNN —Two powerful documentaries explore different aspects of Black history this week, in each case shedding light on misrepresented or under-covered chapters. Presented by Barack Obama’s company under its Netflix deal, “Descendant” examines the discovery of a long-sunk ship that brought enslaved Africans to Alabama, while “The Rebellious Life of Mrs. Rosa Parks” reclaims a figure whose legacy was too often characterized as the product of tired feet. Rosa Parks” highlights the selflessness of its subject and seeks to provide a detailed portrait of a woman who, through the vagaries of history, was frequently reduced to a symbol. Parks, rather, wanted – indeed devoted her life to fighting for – justice and equality. “The Rebellious Life of Mrs. Rosa Parks” premieres October 19 on Peacock.

EntertainmentLin-Manuel Miranda rallies for Beto O’RourkePostedLin-Manuel Miranda, the creator of the acclaimed Broadway musical “Hamilton,” hit the campaign trail for the Texas Democratic gubernatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke in Houston, Texas on Tuesday (October 18).
So even for Grammy, Emmy, Tony and Pulitzer winner Lin-Manuel Miranda, his first songbook, containing 27 songs from “Hamilton,” “Encanto,” “In the Heights” and more, was a big deal. At the event, his nephew Alejandro performed “Dos Oruguitas” (from “Encanto”) on the piano, and was joined by his own teacher for “You’ll Be Back” (from “Hamilton”). You grew up with musical theater and piano lessons — how does it feel to have your own songbook? And it really was a teacher who brought me out of just writing songs about girls in the back of the classroom. That’s a really fun thing about the whole process: When you’re there early enough, your songs can really be a part of a give-and-take.
The litigation from Clark is his latest maneuver to beat back ethics charges stemming from his efforts while at the Justice Department to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. Clark pressured Rosen and Donoghue to send Georgia a letter claiming falsely that the Justice Department had uncovered voting irregularities there. When they refused, he sought to get Trump to oust Rosen so he could be installed as Acting Attorney General. Both Rosen and Donoghue are expected to be called as witnesses at Clark's public disciplinary hearing in January. In a statement, one of Clark's attorneys said the ethics case against Clark represents a "flagrant misuse" of the disciplinary function and sets a "dangerous precedent."

Meta revealed legs for its avatars in its metaverse, Horizon World, at the annual Connect event. A Meta spokesperson clarified the legs were a preview made of "animations created from motion capture." It's not clear if Meta has a working demo of the feature and a release date wasn't specified. Zuckerberg said "legs are hard," because it's hard to accurately position body parts like legs in virtual reality, "which is why other virtual reality systems don't have them either." The event did include more concrete news: Zuckerberg announced the new $1499 Quest Pro virtual reality headset is launching October 25.

A federal judge in Maryland on Tuesday declined to halt Booz Allen Hamilton Holding purchase of a competing cybersecurity firm, turning back the Justice Department’s effort to block the deal on antitrust grounds. Booz Allen in March moved to acquire EverWatch, a company it had been competing against to win a five-year contract to support the National Security Agency’s mission of collecting foreign communications. The Justice Department sued in June, alleging the acquisition would drive up prices for the U.S. government and create a monopoly supplier for a critical national-security service.

Rudi_suardi | E+ | Getty ImagesThe Biden administration will soon issue a rule that may make it easier for workers to be considered "employees" instead of "independent contractors." Misclassification of workers as independent contractors — also known as freelancers or the self-employed — instead of employees is happening across many industries, like construction, health care, restaurants, retail and transportation, Labor Department officials said Tuesday. Employers may benefit financially by classifying their workforce as contractors instead of employees. These companies often classify gig workers as independent contractors. Federal action would especially be a boon to "low-wage, vulnerable workers," Labor Department officials said.
