☆ Benni McCarthy: Former Manchester United coach says Red Devils can qualify for Champions League this season

CNN —Former Manchester United coach Benni McCarthy says the Red Devils can finish in the top four this season, but are still behind the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool in the English Premier League (EPL) title race. But in the league last season, United languished in eighth position, the club’s worst ever finish in the Premier League era and nowhere near the qualification spots for the lucrative Champions League. Since McCarthy left ahead of the new season, United has lost two of its first three league games. Speaking to CNN Sport, though, McCarthy remained optimistic about the Red Devils and stressed that opponents may regret overlooking the 13-time Premier League winners. McCarthy, seen here in 2023 as a Manchester United first team coach, wants to get back into coaching.

NEW YORK (AP) — Shares of Trump Media & Technology Group Corp. jumped Friday after former President Donald Trump said he won't sell shares of the social media company. Trump owns nearly 115 million shares of the company, according to a recent filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The former president can start selling shares of Trump Media, the parent company of Truth Social, starting on Sept. 19 when a lockup provision ends, if he chooses to do so. Trump created Truth Social after he was banned from Twitter and Facebook following the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot. Based in Sarasota, Florida, Trump Media has been losing money and struggling to raise revenue.

CNN —Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said he is “happy” that a hearing into the club’s more than 100 alleged breaches of the Premier League’s financial rules will begin soon. In May 2023, Guardiola said: “What I would like is that the Premier League or the judges could make [a decision] as soon as possible. City has won the Premier League eight times and the Champions League once since it was acquired by The Abu Dhabi United Group in 2008. Neither City nor the Premier League would comment on the hearing when contacted by CNN. The hearing over the over 100 alleged charges is not the only dispute between City and the Premier League.

We have an embarrassment of riches when we look at TJX Companies and Costco in terms of just flat-out value — and a dicey one, admittedly, in Best Buy , which I think has turned an important corner. Costco Research firm Redburn downgraded Costco this week, which made me want to downgrade Redburn. But Costco stock has never been cheap. We started buying Home Depot shares last week as a play on housing and interest rates. Our Home Depot investment thesis is all about a pickup in housing turnover, the main driver of the home improvement retailer's sales. When rates went below 6.5% toward the end of last year, he explained, there was an immediate increase in housing activity, mortgage applications, and mortgage refinance applications. Mortgage rates with a 5% handle could be on the horizon, at least that's what Toll Brothers CEO Doug Yearley thinks. With these numbers, it's easy to see why Decker is optimistic that activity will normalize, and housing turnover and remodel activity will pick-up again.
