David Sedaris, an avid walker, humorist and author of 13 books, including “Me Talk Pretty One Day” and “Happy-Go-Lucky,” is the perfect person to help me. Sedaris, who splits his time between New York City and Sussex, England, has been walking every day since 2014, when he started tracking his steps with a Fitbit. He has walked in cities all over the world, including Tokyo and Reykjavik. I will walk from, I don’t know, 3 o’clock until 7 o’clock. I mean, I need to walk a minimum of 10 miles.

REUTERS/Paresh Dave/File PhotoOTTAWA, June 29 (Reuters) - Google said on Thursday it plans to block Canadian news on its platform in Canada, joining Facebook in escalating a campaign against a new law requiring payments to local news publishers. Alphabet-owned (GOOGL.O) Google will remove links to Canadian news from search results and other products in Canada when the law takes effect in about six months. Google will also end a voluntary news program in Canada operated under agreements with 150 news publications across the country. The law forces online platforms to negotiate with news publishers and pay for their content. A similar law passed in Australia in 2021 prompted threats from Google and Facebook to curtail their services.

My father said it was indeed a general store, supplying everything from hog feed to eggs to coal for heating. On the map, I believe General’s Store is the building at the bottom and labeled S for store. Black people appeared chiefly in sketches aimed at amusing readers – or when they were accused of crimes against whites. The letter writer said a young white man in a general store had ordered the woman to put down a can of oil she was examining. DeSantis asked a federal judge to dismiss Disney's lawsuit against him, claiming he has immunity. The lawyers for the Florida governor also said Disney had no business filing in federal court. Ron DeSantis of Florida filed a motion in federal court Monday evening asking a judge to dismiss Walt Disney World's lawsuit against him. Disney's lawsuit accuses DeSantis and his office of engaging in "a targeted campaign of government retaliation" against Disney that was "orchestrated at every step by Governor DeSantis as punishment for Disney's protected speech." Attorneys for the governor said in the 27-page motion that the federal district Disney filed the lawsuit in lacks jurisdiction.

New York CNN —Spirits maker Diageo has cut ties with Sean “Diddy” Combs, ending a lucrative 15-year partnership that recently culminated in a racial discrimination lawsuit. The music mogul charged that Diageo had neglected and underpromoted his DeLeón tequila, dismissing it as an “urban” product in its marketing, in a suit filed last month. Diageo responded that he has “amassed nearly $1 billion dollars” from the partnership. Diageo and Combs have partnered on Ciroc vodka since 2007. In 2013, Combs bought DeLeón and formed a joint venture with Diageo for the high-end tequila.

Belarus' president said that he talked Vladimir Putin out of assassinating Yevgeny Prigozhin. Prigozhin attempted to march on Moscow in an armed revolt against the Russian defense ministry. "I said to Putin, 'Yes we could take him out, it wouldn't be a problem, if it doesn't work the first time then the second,'" Lukashenko said in a speech Tuesday. Had Putin decided to follow through with this plan there wouldn't be any negotiations, Lukashenko said, according to state-run media agency BelTA. After Prigozhin's attempted mutiny, Putin announced an agreement in which Prigozhin could live in exile in neighboring Belarus, but Putin has since said traitors would be "brought to justice," suggesting that the Wagner leader could face consequences.

Hot pink made waves when Italian designer Elsa Schiaparelli released her own iteration, called “Shocking pink,” in the mid-1930s. The original Barbie doll didn’t even wear pink when it first debuted in 1959, wearing, instead, a black and white chevron bathing suit. Barbie’s pink shades evolved over the years, and in 2008 the vibrant “Barbie Pink” became an official Pantone color. Gifty Walker, Joybird’s director of merchandising and sourcing in Los Angeles, noted that Joybird had a hot pink couch that was popular in 2016. Now hot pink is back and customers are using it to eschew traditional neutrals like grays, browns, and tans.

I decided to take a “scent walk” with my best friend, Julie, who lives in Morningside Heights in New York City. Rob Mastrianni, a park ranger in Manhattan, who recommended taking a walk with the express goal of spotting wildlife. If there’s a safe way to take a walk in the rain, wind or fog, “lean into the elements,” said Rob Walker, the author of “The Art of Noticing,” a book about finding opportunities to be amazed in everyday life. Revel in the dramatically shifting landscapes — the drama of wind whipping through the trees, or the way that rain can make greenery look more vivid. “I don’t want to encourage anyone to go kick a football around in a hurricane,” Walker said.

New York CNN —Soon, Americans are going to able to try chicken that comes directly from chicken cells rather than, well, a chicken. On Wednesday, the USDA gave Upside Foods and Good Meat the green light to start producing and selling their lab-grown, or cultivated, chicken products in the United States. In a nutshell, lab-grown meat — or cultivated or cell-based meat — is meat that is developed from animal cells and grown, with the help of nutrients like amino acids, in massive bioreactors. Meat eaters who are concerned about those types of risks might prefer cultivated meat. Eat Just Inc's Good Meat cultivated chicken.
