The average large-cap Consumer Staples stock has moved +/-3.7% on the day of earnings, inline with options implied moves and above the 17-year average of +/-3.2%," the note said. Cruise lines like Carnival and Norwegian have either raised daily gratuities, WiFi fees, or both. Others, like Norwegian Cruise Line, are raising the daily tip rate up to $5 for passengers staying in higher-end staterooms and suites. Meanwhile, Carnival has raised both daily gratuity and WiFi fees, the latter by $5 for premium WiFi. An increase in WiFi fees is just a "natural inflationary price increase," Patrick Scholes, an analyst at Truist Securities, told Insider.

BRUSSELS, Feb 15 (Reuters) - Norwegian mobile payment app Vipps wants European Union (EU) antitrust regulators to force Apple (AAPL.O) to allow access to its tap and go technology without any restrictions so that other companies can be more competitive, Vipps Chief Executive Rune Garborg said. "Apple is only sharing NFC with banks, which have to pay for installing their cards in Apple Pay. Vipps said NFC access would increase the geographical reach of its mobile wallet, make it easier to innovate products and better enable cross-border transactions. The company has previously said that Apple Pay is one of many options available to European consumers and which has ensured equal access to its technology. Vipps said it tried several alternatives to NFC but found them cumbersome and not competitive.

It made a net profit of roughly 3.8 billion euros last year, thanks in large part to a 2 billion euro plus profit from its Russia business. Of UniCredit's more than 20 billion euro total revenue last year, Russia accounted for more than 1 billion euros. Meanwhile, Russian savers lodged more than 20 billion euros with the bank, which offers a place to deposit funds with fewer sanctions risks. It banned investors from so-called unfriendly countries from selling shares in banks, unless the Russian President grants an exemption.
Shares of Norway's Nel Hydrogen are expected to rise by more than 20% thanks to the latest set of green subsidies in both the U.S. and Europe, according to Morgan Stanley. Morgan Stanley says Nel shares, which trade in the U.S. and Europe , will rise to 22 Norwegian Kroner ($2.15) over the next 12 months. Apart from the sectoral tailwinds, Nel shares also benefit from being one of the few listed green hydrogen companies, said the analysts. Morgan Stanley is also bearish on ITM Power's stock, which is one of the few viable alternatives, according to the bank. However, Morgan Stanley believes sentiment has hit rock bottom, and shares of the company are likely to rise from the current level.
Once-celebrated journalist Seymour Hersh made unproven claims the US blew up the Nord Stream pipelines. In Russia, Hersh's story was immediately greeted with a sense of vindication. Biden had said he opposed opening the Nord Stream 2 pipeline and saying the US could "bring an end to" it if Russia invaded Ukraine. The invasion did take place, and officials in Germany — where the pipeline was due to pump its gas — axed the project before Nord Stream 2 moved any gas. Nord Stream 1 kept pumping until the explosion.
With net profit for the year of $28.7 billion, up from $8.6 billion a year earlier, Equinor joined global oil and gas majors such as ExxonMobil (XOM.N), Shell (SHEL.L) and BP (BP.L) in reporting record returns for 2022. Majority state-owned Equinor (EQNR.OL) became Europe's largest supplier of natural gas last year as Russia's Gazprom (GAZP.MM) cut deliveries over the West's support for Ukraine, sending European gas prices to all-time highs. But gas prices have tumbled in 2023 and Equinor's Oslo-listed stocks have fallen 9% year-to-date, underperforming a 3.3% rise in European petroleum stocks (.SXEP). The board reaffirmed a regular share buyback plan of $1.2 billion per year and said it would make an extraordinary buy back in 2023 of $4.8 billion, for a total of $6 billion. Equinor's previous adjusted earnings record was $36.2 billion in 2008, when North Sea oil prices hit record highs.

Net profit for the year was $28.7 billion, up from $8.6 billion a year earlier. The company joined global oil and gas majors such as ExxonMobil (XOM.N), Shell (SHEL.L) and BP (BP.L) in reporting record bottom lines. Equinor's previous adjusted earnings record amounted to $36.2 billion in 2008, when the price of North Sea oil had risen to record highs. Equinor said it expected capital spending for 2023 at between $10 billion and $11 billion, broadly in line with a previous plan. It raised it spending projection for the next three years to $13 billion per year from $12 billion seen before.
"Judging by the customs statistics, some of the benefit was captured by refiners in India and China, but the main beneficiaries must be oil shippers, intermediaries and the Russian oil companies," he added. As a further complication, some Russian oil grades, including Pacific grade ESPO, are also worth more than Urals. After decades of low profits or losses, sections of the global shipping industry are enjoying a financial boom from moving Russian oil. A year ago, a similar journey would have cost a seller of Russian oil $0.5-$1.0 million depending on shipping rates. Nayara is 49%-owned by Russian state oil major Rosneft, run by Putin's ally Igor Sechin, meaning some of the profits are indirectly captured by Russia.
