REUTERS/Issei Kato/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsSept 12 (Reuters) - A look at the day ahead in Asian markets from Jamie McGeever, financial markets columnist. They now expect the central bank's 'yield curve control' policy to end in October, compared with April 2024, and for the negative interest rate policy to end in January 2024, versus December 2024. Beyond the Japanese policy drama, investors will also have the latest Indian inflation and industrial production data, and Australian business and consumer sentiment figures to digest on Tuesday. The currency is getting little support from the interest rate outlook - economists currently expect the RBI to keep rates on hold then start easing policy the second quarter of next year.

Strong demand among older Americans is keeping prices high, with analysts saying "Blame the Boomers." But Barclays analysts said that alone doesn't explain the surge in home pricing. AdvertisementAdvertisement"This may strike some as paradoxical, as many associate demand for housing units with rates of increase in population," analysts said, adding: "Is it not true that an older population requires less housing? While it is likely true that older people tend to prefer smaller housing units, it is not true that an older population requires fewer housing units." And as there's increasingly more older Americans, housing demand is being pushed higher, fueling price gains in for homes, Barclays wrote.

Bloomberg reported earlier on Friday that the bank was weighing hundreds of job losses. Venkatakrishnan is separately embarking on a wider strategy review, amid some investor dissatisfaction at the bank's underperformance relative to Wall Street investment banks. Barclays' Wall Street rivals have also cut jobs this year, as investment banking revenues are taking a long time to recover.

In the three months that ended May 31, Oracle cloud infrastructure unit revenue jumped 76% on an annual basis, to $1.4 billion, roughly 10% of the company's total. Analysts at UBS struck a similar tone last week when they also upgraded Oracle stock to buy. We expect that, over time, Oracle's AI execution and growing cloud share should attract new investors to the stock and convince more analysts of its potential. SLB said it expects to add about $5 billion in revenue in 2023, compared with its previous estimate to increase revenue by 15%, which worked out to a $4.2 billion growth. It also expects to grow earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) by $1.5 billion this year. It had previously forecast adjusted EBITDA percentage growth in the mid-20s, which at its midpoint translated to $1.6 billion. "Directionally, we see the potential to repeat this by adding similar revenue and EBITDA dollar growth in 2024," Le Peuch said at a Barclays energy conference. International core revenue is projected to exceed $23 billion in 2023, representing growth in the high teens, Le Peuch added.

Shares of AMC Entertainment fell sharply in early trading Wednesday after the theater chain said in a filing that it plans to sell up to 40 million new shares to raise cash. AMC was widely expected to sell additional shares after the successful conversion of the preferred APE shares into AMC common stock in August. The theater chain sold millions of shares of common stock in recent years after becoming one of the so-called meme stocks popular with retail traders. The company issued the preferred APE shares as part of a strategy to change its corporate voting structure and get shareholder approval to sell additional common stock. AMC said in the filing Wednesday that it will sell the new shares through "at-the-market" offerings, without a specific time frame.

"I don't see how you can keep piling more issuance - debt and equity - on this company at these rates. Enbridge shares provisionally closed down 5.9% at C$45.31, while the benchmark Canadian share index was off 0.9%. Arm kicked off its roadshow in Baltimore, where influential asset manager T Rowe Price is headquartered, underscoring the fund manager's significance in big IPOs. Arm disclosed the proposed range would value it at between $48 billion and $52 billion. The valuation that Arm is chasing represents a climb-down from the $64 billion valuation at which SoftBank last month acquired the 25% stake it did not already own in the company from its $100 billion Vision Fund. Jamie Mills O’Brien, portfolio manager at British fund manager Abrdn, said he found SoftBank's valuation ask in the IPO "more palatable than initially discussed." Unlike most loss-making but high-growth tech companies that debut with lofty valuations but later plummet below list price, Arm is profitable.
