“Love Island USA” personality Hannah Smith was arrested and accused of threatening to kill a police officer on Sept. 30 in Atlanta, according to an incident report from the Cobb County Police Department. According to the incident report, Smith was escorted out of the concert venue by security for allegedly yelling and screaming. While being escorted out, Smith allegedly punched a member of emergency medical services who was assisting, according to a Cobb County officer supervising the situation. On the way to the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office Adult Detention Center, Smith allegedly threatened to kill the officer and the officer's sister. Smith was placed in custody and charged with two felonies — terroristic threats and obstruction or hindering an officer, according to police.

Autonomous taxis are winning over women in cities like San Francisco by offering an answer to a long-standing concern about ride-hailing apps: misbehavior by human drivers, especially men. Now, those driver safety concerns are helping to fuel the popularity of autonomous taxis — especially for women traveling alone or at night. About three-quarters of Lyft and Uber drivers are men, according to industry and academic surveys. Lyft said in a statement to NBC News that it continues to try to improve safety, including with driver background checks, driver ratings, driver education and an emergency phone line for passengers. BOSTON — Luis Tiant, the charismatic Cuban with a horseshoe mustache and mesmerizing windup who pitched the Red Sox to the brink of a World Series championship and himself to the doorstep of the Hall of Fame, has died. Major League Baseball announced his death in a post on X on Tuesday, and the Red Sox confirmed that he died at his home in Maine. He had 187 complete games and 47 shutouts in a 19-year career spent mostly with Cleveland and Boston. His death comes one week after that of all-time baseball hits leader Pete Rose, whose Cincinnati Reds faced Tiant’s Red Sox in the 1975 World Series — still considered one of the greatest in baseball history. After his retirement, Tiant was inducted into the Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame but never made the national shrine in Cooperstown, New York, receiving a high of 30.9% of the votes in 1988, his first year on the ballot.
