CNBC's Jim Cramer said Tuesday's sell-off was a result of poor judgment on the part of shareholders. "The market won't bottom all at once — there will be some stocks that will bottom tomorrow — but I think this is a sell-off based on bad judgment, not bad earnings or a bad business environment," he said. Other bullish investors stirred up market froth, buying up many tech companies with unclear business plans, he said. In theory, Cramer said investors would be wise to sell some stock here and then buy it back at lower levels, but admitted that that plan is difficult to execute in practice. "The market can't advance on froth without terrible consequences," he said.

A 45-year-old Kansas man has been charged in the theft of a life-size bronze statue of the baseball legend Jackie Robinson from a park in Wichita, Kan. The police in Wichita said on Tuesday that the motive for the crime was probably to sell the statue for scrap metal. The man, Ricky Alderete, was charged on Monday with felony theft, aggravated criminal damage to property and making false information, the police said. “The investigation has not revealed any evidence indicating this was a hate-motivated crime,” Lieutenant Moses said. “Instead, we believe this theft was motivated by the financial gain of scrapping common metal.”

Shopify President Harley Finkelstein told CNBC's Jim Cramer on Tuesday how the e-commerce platform is bolstering its global business. "International is a massive area of growth for us," Finkelstein said. Shopify has also expanded its customer base beyond smaller merchants, serving brands such as Everlane, Nike Strength and Oscar de la Renta, he added. The company is also focused on business-to-business sales, working with wholesalers such as HVAC outfit Carrier . Shopify reported quarterly earnings before Tuesday's open, beating Wall Street's expectations but sending shares down due to mixed guidance for the current period.

CNBC's Jim Cramer on Monday said he doesn't see a market decline coming soon. After weeks of huge gains for the major indexes, Cramer said this momentum may last longer than some think, and sellers aren't eager to get out just yet. "Without huge chunks of selling, we aren't gonna have that decline," he said. To Cramer, Nvidia stock has hit levels higher than many may have thought possible. CNBC's Jim Cramer on Monday told investors to be wary of some food and beverage stocks as investors are captivated by companies that make newly popular GLP-1s, weight loss and diabetes drugs such as Mounjaro and Zepbound. "Stay away from these food and beverage stocks because there will be a day, that day will come, when one of them finally admits they've been hurt by the GLP-1s, and that will take down every stock in the group," he said. But there are other variables that could contribute to weaker sales for food and beverage companies, he said. Cramer conceded that it's hard to predict just how much these drugs will affect food stocks going forward, but said they will definitely change the market. "However, you're fooling yourself if you think these drugs didn't play some sort of role."

Additionally, prices can vary between Costco locations, and in-store prices tend to be cheaper than what's found online. And most people don't tend to go through stick after stick of lip balm in rapid succession, Ramhold says. "But the truth is that even if you use it habitually, it takes a long time to go through that much lip balm." For that reason, unless you're buying for family or friends, you probably don't need to grab the nine-count pack of lip balm on Costco shelves. However, you simply might not need 1,000 pills of, say, Kirkland Signature brand ibuprofen, unless you have a large household, Ramhold says.

Idaho’s abortion laws meant they had to seek care across state lines after receiving devastating news about a much-wanted pregnancy. “As soon as that ultrasound technician put that wand on my stomach and I saw the baby on the screen, I knew something was wrong,” Jen told CNN. “I was sent home to grieve and mourn and call around to see if we could get an appointment out of state,” Jen said. TOKYO (Reuters) - The U.S. special envoy on North Korean human rights issues, Julie Turner, will travel to Tokyo and Seoul from Monday, the State Department said. On the visit through Feb. 22, Turner will meet with government officials, activists and North Korean defectors, the department said in a news release on its website on Friday. "Special Envoy Turner's trip will underscore the U.S. commitment to promoting human rights in North Korea, increasing access to uncensored information within the closed country, and empowering survivor voices advocating for concrete change," the release said. President Joe Biden, however, had vowed on taking office that human rights would be at the centre of his foreign policy. Bill Murphy, an 80-year-old retired veterinarian in suburban Phoenix, sometimes blanks on names he could once summon with ease, so he has empathy for 81-year-old President Biden. But he winced when he watched Mr. Biden defend his mental sharpness at a news conference, only to mix up the presidents of Egypt and Mexico. Mr. Murphy, a Republican, believes Mr. Biden is not up to another term. “I look at him as a peer,” said Ms. Meyer, who plans to vote for Mr. Biden. The special counsel report cleared him of criminal charges in his handling of classified documents but described him as a “sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.”

Nevertheless, the Biden White House and legal team has taken pains to ensure compliance – an effort to highlight its commitment to ethics and draw a sharp contrast with Trump, who skirted the rule with abandon. And the Biden White House has issued “extensive guidance to and conducts trainings for agencies” on the Hatch Act and how to avoid potential missteps, the official said. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, for instance, delivered a speech to the Republican National Convention while on official travel in Jerusalem. “Voters of color can see themselves in leaders like Secretary Cardona, Secretary Fudge, and (EPA) Administrator (Michael) Regan. President Biden was intentional about assembling a Cabinet that reflects the diversity of America, and we continue to see how that diversity translates into real political strength,” he told CNN.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House on Friday sought to downplay sharp criticism levied against Israel by President Joe Biden and a senior national security official over how Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government has conducted Israel's four-month-old war aimed at rooting out Hamas militants from Gaza. The White House National Security Council confirmed that Finer’s comments, as reported by the Times, were accurate. Hamas, however, has demanded that Israel release hundreds of Palestinian prisoners and end the war as part of a hostage deal. Biden said he still is hopeful that a deal can be worked out that might create a path to ending the war. Biden enjoyed a roughly 3-to-1 advantage in Dearborn and 5-1 advantage in Hamtramck, and he won Wayne County by more than 330,000 votes.

How to manage your boss
  + stars: | 2024-02-09 | by ( Henry Blodget | ) www.businessinsider.com   time to read: +8 min
So you have to manage your boss. And, to do that — and to be sure that your boss is actually happy and not just "being nice" — you will likely have to manage your boss. (This is not necessarily because they don't want to be — but because being a great boss is hard.) All of this means: You don't want to leave managing your job and career to your boss, because your boss has other priorities and might not be great at it. Despite your efforts to understand and deliver what your boss wants, your boss may be so flaky that they just can't set and stick to realistic goals.

CNBC's Jim Cramer on Friday said investors should look into buying stock of Enphase , which soared this week even after reporting a poor fourth quarter that missed Wall Street's expectations. Cramer said he was encouraged by Enphase's outlook, as management predicted a bottom followed by a rebound for the solar industry, which has suffered in a high interest rate environment. Enphase is emblematic of the solar industry as a whole, Cramer said, adding that the Fed's relentless rate hikes slowed sales, leading to an inventory glut. To Cramer, Enphase looks like a "destocking" story, meaning the company has had to burn through excess inventory. "With Enphase, the stock already caught fire this week, but we're three to six months out from the moments where the numbers start genuinely improving, which means it's not too late to buy Enphase," he said.

CNBC's Jim Cramer on Friday prepared investors for next week on Wall Street, saying investors should pay attention as earnings season continues, with reports from companies including Shopify , Marriott and Wendy's . He also recommended researching retail stocks next week before the industry reports a slew of earnings results the week after. "Next week seems busy, but, you know what, it's a classic interregnum — Google that — before we get to retail earnings," Cramer said. On Monday, Cramer said he'll be waiting for earnings reports from two "scorchers," cloud networking outfit Arista Networks and Cadence Design Systems , which provides software for artificial intelligence hardware. This is the story of two athletic people who formed an attachment while cycling and made a home together near the coast of Maine. They built a small, energy-efficient house northwest of Camden that is comfortable throughout the year: in frigid season, sopping season, insect season. Ms. Nopakun was living in Cambridge, Mass., and had a job as a compliance officer for a Medicaid/Medicare plan, while Mr. Bonner-Ganter was working as a forester and arborist in Midcoast Maine.

The campaign aides plan to discuss their general election message and outlook for the year, as well as ongoing mobilization efforts. “Together, President Biden, Vice President Harris, and House Democrats have delivered on a historic agenda for the American people,” Rodriguez said ahead of the meeting. Since Trump romped to resounding victories in the Iowa and New Hampshire contests last month, the Biden campaign has effectively acted as if the general election race with Trump has already started. The March engagement plan will help fortify a campaign operation and grassroots network for Biden and House Democrats that they will further ramp up as they work to persuade voters later this year. House Democrats are in the northern Virginia town, about 30 miles from Washington, for their annual retreat.
