Oct 25 (Reuters) - Rafa Nadal will return to competition at next week's Paris Masters before taking his place at the season-ending ATP Finals, coach Carlos Moya said. He also took time off for the birth of his first child with wife Mery Perello on Oct. 8. Moya confirmed that Nadal would use the Masters 1000 event in Bercy, which the world number two has never won, as part of his preparations for the ATP's finale in Turin from Nov. 13-20. "Before arriving in Turin, you have to play matches in Paris, which are similar," Moya told IB3 TV. The two-time grand slam champion, who has been provisionally suspended, denied knowingly taking the banned substance and vowed to clear her name. Halep won her first grand slam at the French Open in 2018 and won her second at Wimbledon in 2019.
Oct 21 (Reuters) - Two-times major winner Simona Halep of Romania has been provisionally suspended after testing positive for the banned blood-booster roxadustat, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) said on Friday. "Simona Halep, a 31-year-old Romanian tennis player, has been provisionally suspended under Article 7.12.1 of the 2022 Tennis Anti-Doping Programme (TADP)," the body said in a statement. Former world number one Halep described the ban as the "biggest shock of her life" and denied knowingly taking any banned substance. I have been notified that I have tested positive for a substance called Roxadustat in an extremely low quantity, she wrote on Twitter. Halep, the winner of two titles this season, ended her season early after undergoing nose surgery last month to treat breathing difficulties.

CNN —At first glance, winning seems impossibly easy for Diede de Groot; an almost nonchalant habit of 69 consecutive victories, yielding a Golden Slam – all four grand slams and a Paralympic gold medal – in 2021, followed by a calendar grand slam in 2022. De Groot's win at the 2022 US Open completed her back-to-back calendar grand slam. De Groot now plays doubles alongside Van Koot and they have won 11 doubles grand slam titles together. So far, de Groot has won 15 grand slam singles titles and 15 grand slam doubles titles.

"I have been struggling with my right wrist for the last four, five days, to be honest. His Wimbledon victory guarantees him a spot in the Tour-ending Finals if he remains ranked in the world's top 20. Djokovic, who is currently ranked seventh, said the wrist issue could be due to a combination of factors. "You always have to generate a lot of wrist action and speed, which could be the case why I have been feeling soreness."
Auger-Aliassime produced a masterful performance at a packed O2 Arena, holding off a Djokovic comeback in the second set to clinch Team World's second victory of the day. Earlier, Auger-Aliassime and Jack Sock had come from a set down to beat Andy Murray and Matteo Berrettini 2-6 6-3 10-8. Tiafoe can give Team World an unassailable lead if he beats Stefanos Tsitsipas in the penultimate match. Raducanu's 2022 season has been blighted by different kinds of injuries, ranging from blisters to side strains and hip and back problem, and she was playing in her first semi-final since winning the U.S. Open last year. The trouble started for 19-year-old Raducanu midway through the second set in her first meeting against Latvia's world number 19 Ostapenko when she took an off-court medical timeout to get treatment for a left glute injury. Ostapenko won the Korea Open title in 2017 - the same year she lifted her maiden Grand Slam trophy at Roland Garros - and will meet world number 24 Alexandrova next in Seoul. Second seed Alexandrova advanced to her second final of the season by defeating Germany's Wimbledon semi-finalist Tatjana Maria 6-2 6-4 earlier on Saturday. At one point Federer suggested world number eight should serve and volley, which Norrie promptly did but lost the point as Fritz sent a lob over his head. "If Roger Federer is telling you to do something, there is no chance I'm not going to do it, especially out there playing for Team Europe," Norrie said later.

After a brief moment of almost silence around the packed arena, the crowd erupted to salute an emotional Federer. During the changeovers the video screens showed some iconic moments of Federer's 24-year professional career with tributes from Nadal and his mother Lynette. American duo Sock and Tiafoe, pantomime villains for the night, tested Federer's reactions with some lusty blows aimed at the Swiss maestro who would have demanded nothing less. The pair with a combined age of 77 and 42 Grand Slam titles between them edged the opening set by breaking Tiafoe's serve. Despite the party atmosphere in the stadium, there was no danger of Federer's farewell match turning into an exhibition.
