LAS VEGAS (AP) — MGM Resorts International, the largest employer on the Las Vegas Strip, was close to reaching a tentative deal with the hotel workers union, the casino company’s CEO said as the clock ticked closer to a union deadline for a sweeping strike. “This deal, when announced, will do just that.”During a break in bargaining, the union’s chief contract negotiator said he welcomed Hornbuckle’s sentiments. The union caught a break at dawn Wednesday when it reached a tentative deal with Caesars that covers 10,000 workers at the company’s flagship Caesars Palace, as well as Flamingo, Harrah’s, Horseshoe, Paris Las Vegas, Planet Hollywood, Cromwell and Linq. But experts say a walkout isn’t likely now that the union has a blueprint for a contract after reaching its breakthrough deal with Caesars. That includes walkouts in Hollywood, UPS’ contentious negotiations that threatened to disrupt the nation’s supply chain, and the ongoing hotel workers strike at Detroit’s three casinos, including MGM Grand Detroit.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The labor union representing tens of thousands of Las Vegas hospitality workers announced Wednesday that it had reached a tentative deal with casino giant Caesars Entertainment, a major breakthrough that could help avert an unprecedented strike at more than a dozen hotel-casinos on the Las Vegas Strip. A walkout could still happen if deals aren't reached by 5 a.m. Friday with MGM Resorts International and Wynn Resorts. Negotiations with MGM Resorts were scheduled for Wednesday and Wynn Resorts on Thursday. It would also follow hospitality workers walking off the job last month at Detroit’s three casinos, including MGM Grand Detroit. That includes the Bellagio, Paris Las Vegas and MGM Grand.

Google's traffic navigation app Waze will now warn you when you are driving on a road with a history of crashes, the company announced Tuesday. The feature will alert drivers that they are approaching an accident-prone area before they reach that section of the route. However, Waze will limit the number of alerts drivers see on roads they more regularly drive on, a limitation Google said is intended to minimize distractions for drivers. The alerts were created with artificial intelligence that analyzed the characteristics of roads, such as typical traffic levels, elevation and whether the route is a road or highway, a spokesperson said in a statement. Crash history alerts are also based on reports from the Waze community, which provide historical crash data, the spokesperson said.

Israeli troops have been battling Palestinian militants inside Gaza for over a week, and have succeeded in cutting the territory in half and encircling Gaza City. About 1,400 people in Israel have died, mostly civilians killed in the Oct. 7 incursion by Hamas that started the war. The military says a one-way corridor for residents of Gaza City and surrounding areas to flee south remains available. Residents in northern Gaza reported heavy battles overnight into Tuesday morning in the outskirts of Gaza City. Israel captured Gaza, the West Bank and east Jerusalem in the 1967 Mideast war.

Many of the patents at issue in the Food and Drug Administration's Orange Book listing of approved products were for devices such as asthma inhalers and epinephrine autoinjectors, the FTC said. NEW YORK (AP) — Nia DaCosta, director of the upcoming “The Marvels,” has a diagnosis for the recent struggles of superhero movies. It’s the first Marvel movie to feature not just all-female leads but a female villain (Zawe Ashton plays Dar-Benn), as well. While originally conceived as a post-“Endgame” follow-up to “Captain Marvel,” Marvel chief Kevin Feige was drawn to the chance to unite Captain Marvel with Rambeau from “WandaVision” and Ms. Marvel of her standalone Disney+ series. After making “Candyman,” a Marvel movie was, DaCosta says, “definitely not in my near future.” But it also wasn’t entirely off her radar. The results show how Australia's retail banks are leaning into businesses outside their traditional earnings engine of mortgages as higher interest rates raise the cost of repayments, spurring competition which has flattened profit margins.
