Mr. Trump, even as he seeks to bring the Republican Party fully on board with his renomination, faces significant questions about the political and financial impact of his many legal troubles. For one thing, both Mr. Trump and Mr. Biden are raising money through joint fund-raising committees, which do not have to file reports until April. Mr. Trump, on the other hand, is still fending off a primary challenger, Nikki Haley. And, perhaps more critically, committees backing Mr. Trump are spending millions each month on legal expenses. Mr. Trump faces four criminal indictments along with civil cases, which are proving costly.

As the first earnings season of 2024 draws to a close, CNBC's Jim Cramer gave his take on the most recent reports from the Magnificent Seven mega caps, awarding particular kudos to Nvidia and Amazon . He first lauded Nvidia, which reported record revenue up 265% thanks to continued high demand for its artificial intelligence products. He then called Amazon "the most definitive summa of all," with a hot advertising business and growing web services sector. Cramer also awarded Meta a "summa," praising its advertising capabilities and WhatsApp business. And Tesla earned a "gentleman's C," Cramer said, uncertain about how this year will shape up for the company.

CNBC's Jim Cramer told investors to hold on to stock of home improvement retailer Home Depot , even though its most recent quarter lacked luster. "Sure, the quarter wasn't great, but the conference call commentary I found encouraging, which is why I'm willing to be patient and hold on to Home Depot," he said. Cramer called management's outlook "appropriately conservative," saying the company is optimistic, but not yet ready to declare a decisive turnaround. Now that inventory is under control, the company is poised for better future, Cramer said. "Besides, I'm betting that management deliberately gave a conservative forecast—they like to under promise and over deliver at Home Depot."

It's no secret that CNBC's Jim Cramer is a longstanding supporter of semiconductor giant Nvidia . Ahead of the Big Tech company's quarterly report, which it will release after Wednesday's close, Cramer reminded investors why he feels so strongly they should buy, not trade, Nvidia stock. "Nvidia deserves its valuation, and if they take a whack at it tomorrow, when they report—remember, Friday's another day." Investors shouldn't overlook Nvidia's importance in the artificial intelligence space, Cramer added. "If you think that Nvidia's quarter is one and done, you're also thinking that AI is one and done."

Palo Alto Networks CEO Nikesh Arora told CNBC's Jim Cramer the company didn't lower revenue guidance because it expects a lack of demand for cybersecurity products. Palo Alto reported earnings Tuesday after close, and although it managed to beat Wall Street analyst expectations, it cut its full-year guidance for revenue and billings. However, he admitted that customers are experiencing "fatigue" when it comes to cybersecurity processes: dealing with and integrating multiple cybersecurity vendors, slower legacy infrastructure. He added that he feels Palo Alto is more prepared than its competitors to meet these demands. "Let's go back to the basics, our business is strong, demand is strong."

After Walmart 's earnings report impressed Wall Street on Tuesday, CEO Doug McMillon told CNBC's Jim Cramer that his company has unique advantages in the advertising space. "When you grow your digital reach, and you've got an e-commerce business that's scaling like ours is," McMillon said, "You get an opportunity to sell advertisements, and we can connect the dots for advertisers." Walmart's global advertising business climbed 28% for the year, McMillon said, adding that the big-box retailer's e-commerce sales topped $100 billion for the first time. The company also announced on Tuesday it would acquire TV maker Vizio for $2.3 billion to further grow its ad business. According to McMillon, Walmart's strength lies in its reach and ability to effectively measure the success of advertisements.

Across the country, Americans were shocked and horrified by the images on Wednesday from Kansas City, Mo., after shots were fired into a crowd of jubilant parade-goers celebrating the city’s Super Bowl win. To people intimately aware of the entrenched violence in Kansas City, the shooting was painfully familiar. There were 182 people killed in Kansas City last year, according to police data, surpassing a previous high in 2020. With a population of just over 500,000, Kansas City has one of the highest murder rates in the nation. Rosilyn Temple, who founded the Kansas City chapter of Mothers in Charge after her son, Antonio, was killed in 2011, was at the scene of two separate shootings on Tuesday, the night before the Super Bowl celebration.

Many U.S. companies are grappling with health insurance coverage issues for workers when it comes to GLP-1 drugs for weight loss. Still, many benefits experts say it's a matter of when, not if, more employers will cover GLP-1 drugs. Certainly, prescription volumes of GLP-1 weight loss drugs are soaring. Even though GLP-1 drugs are high-priced, they currently represent only 6.9% of annual claims, according to data from the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans. It's going to be harder and harder not to cover these drugs because the benefits seem to be so great."

Not fun.”Many scientists who study the intersection of climate change, flooding, winter storms and sea level rise agree the kind of damage Levy experienced was more of a sign of things to come than an anomaly. Climate change is forecast to bring more hurricanes to the Northeast as waters warm, some scientists say. In the Northeast, the problem of climate change is especially acute because of forecasted sea level rise here, said Hannah Baranes, a coastal scientist with the Gulf of Maine Research Institute's Climate Center in Portland, Maine. “This is a real moment to consider how much flooding is in several feet of sea level rise,” Baranes said. Vermont, which also suffered heavy damage in Hurricane Irene in 2011, is working to establish statewide floodplain standards, Moore told the Maine Climate Council.

CNBC's Jim Cramer on Wednesday said investors shouldn't be worried in this market, listing five bearish "scares" that he said are part of the normal market rhythm and shouldn't worry Wall Street so much. Cramer said investors are worried that a commercial real estate collapse is on the horizon and will take down regional banks with it. But that hasn't been the case so far, Cramer said, and even companies with disappointing reports saw their stocks rally. Cramer said investors have trepidations about buying when the market is narrow — dominated by Big Tech — but recommended taking advantage of this scenario, buying low to be ready when the market broadens. Cramer said Nvidia"So, it's easy to scare people, and if you're a short-seller, it's also profitable," Cramer said.

Of all the government critics, few thought that Rocío San Miguel would be the one to disappear. Ms. San Miguel, 57, has long been one of Venezuela’s best known security experts, a woman who dared investigate her country’s authoritarian government even as others fled. But late last week, Ms. San Miguel arrived at the airport outside Caracas with her daughter, bound for what a relative called a short trip to Miami, when she was picked up by counterintelligence agents. For four days, the only public information about Ms. San Miguel came from Venezuela’s top prosecutor, who claimed on social media, without providing evidence, that Ms. San Miguel had been linked to a plot to kill the country’s president, Nicolás Maduro. Finally, on Tuesday evening, her lawyers said she had surfaced — and was being held in a notoriously brutal detention center.

In a Wednesday post-earnings interview with CNBC's Jim Cramer, Cisco CEO Chuck Robbins listed several factors that lead to a light quarterly and full-year forecast, including weakness in orders from its service provider customers. "First of all, we saw more caution with our customers this quarter than we saw in the prior quarter," Robbins said, adding that inventory consumption is taking longer than the company expected. Robbins also said there was "continued weakness" in demand from its telecommunications and cable service provider clients, with orders down 40% for the quarter. "Those three things lead us to revise guidance for the rest of the year," he said. Cisco also announced on Wednesday it will be cutting 5% of its workforce, or about 4,000 jobs, mirroring layoffs happening at other tech companies.

A 45-year-old Kansas man has been charged in the theft of a life-size bronze statue of the baseball legend Jackie Robinson from a park in Wichita, Kan. The police in Wichita said on Tuesday that the motive for the crime was probably to sell the statue for scrap metal. The man, Ricky Alderete, was charged on Monday with felony theft, aggravated criminal damage to property and making false information, the police said. “The investigation has not revealed any evidence indicating this was a hate-motivated crime,” Lieutenant Moses said. “Instead, we believe this theft was motivated by the financial gain of scrapping common metal.”
