The best-performing exchange-traded funds in the second half will likely be decided by broader shifts in the markets and economy. Even with mounting uncertainty, however, there are some types of ETFs that could emerge as winners. Equities A handful of stocks were big winners in the first half, and some narrowly focused ETFs were able to ride that wave. Single-stock funds tied to Nvidia have also seen heavy interest, including the GraniteShares 2x Long Nvidia ETF (NVDL) . However, Hougan said he didn't think that omission would be a big hurdle for ETF investors.

Now, I have my own son, and I want to provide a much better life for him here in Las Vegas. But to reach my financial goals and give both of us better lives, I've had to sacrifice some quality time with him. I knew that wasn't nearly enough to reach my financial goals. My next job paid me about $50,000, and then I moved to a job making $65,000. It's taken time to find the right balance of making enough money while also spending enough time with my son.

Suddenly, the red-hot labor market is feeling closer to lukewarm for job seekers. The unemployment rate rose to a three-year high of 4.1% in June, with 6.8 million people unemployed. At that time a year ago, the unemployment rate was at 3.6% and 6 million people were unemployed. The rising unemployment rate — driven primarily by more people entering the workforce — means that it’s getting more competitive for job hunters to get hired. Since 2022, the temporary help sector has added jobs in only four months.

Shein logistics software is in beta testing with select supply chain customers, according to a person familiar with its plans. "Shein's software could provide unprecedented access to sensitive supply chain data, which the Chinese government could seize under its laws. This exposure poses a direct threat to U.S. supply chain integrity, making it vulnerable to exploitation and manipulation." Even with a headquarters based in Singapore, company supply chain data could be subject to seizure by the Chinese. Against this backdrop, RBC Capital Markets highlighted some of its favorite ways to play the theme beyond the classic winners, viewing AI as the "next disruptive mega-trend." The result is more orders and manufacturing, even of Western equipment where production had stopped. Its maker, Lockheed Martin, is increasing production as well as its production of the antitank missile system. Russia has also ramped up its wartime production, which could aid it in the future and not just against Ukraine. One solution would have been countries ramping up their orders and production earlier in the war, Di Mizio said.

Between abandoned coal mines and an engine plant scheduled for closure, a gleaming new factory hovers like a phoenix over Billy-Berclau, a small industrial town in northern France. Inside, 700 newly hired workers are making next-generation electric vehicle batteries for the Automotive Cells Company — part of a grand project to revive the wider region’s flailing fortunes. A “Battery Valley” is rising here from the remains of industries that shuttered during a wave of globalization. “Industry is an anti-National Rally weapon, because in places where anger has risen, we’re restoring hope,” Roland Lescure, Mr. Macron’s deputy industry minister, said earlier this year. Billy-Berclau, and nearly every other town in this region of Pas-de-Calais handed a resounding victory last week to National Rally in parliamentary elections — a trend that is likely to be repeated in a final voting round on Sunday.

The common denominator is that it's coming from someone you care about who needs money "fast." A 2023 survey from McAfee found that 25% of adults have experienced a similar AI voice scam — and the company says 77% of victims have lost money as a result. But older adults aren't the only ones at risk; younger people who spend more time online are increasingly vulnerable, CFP Andrew Sivertsen said.

Fertility rates across OECD countries have halved since 1960, according to a new OECD report. There are eight countries in the world with declared nuclear arsenals, four of which — the United States, China, India, and Russia — have a complete nuclear triad. Israel's triad has some notable distinctions and limitations compared to those of the other four. Earlier this week, AI company ElevenLabs said it is bringing digitally produced celebrity voice-overs of deceased actors, including Garland, James Dean and Burt Reynolds, to its newly launched Reader app. “We deeply respect their legacy and are honored to have their voices as part of our platform,” said Dustin Blank, head of partnerships at ElevenLabs. The AI is trained on old recordings and those recordings are under copyright. It’s not unlike a company negotiating a copyright deal to use a popular song by Queen in an ad. It’s unclear, however, how AI versions of well-known voices will be received by mass audiences and if it will raise concerns around authenticity.

Australia is facing an egg supply crunch thanks to bird flu outbreaks — and it's led McDonald's to trim breakfast hours by 90 minutes, also pushing supermarkets to restrict purchases to two cartons per consumer. Citing "industry challenges," McDonald's on Tuesday announced that it was temporarily serving breakfast until 10.30am instead of midday across Australia. The government added that it is currently responding to outbreaks of the H7 high pathogenicity avian influenza (HPAI) at 11 poultry farms. The Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) noted that there is currently no evidence that people can contact the virus through "properly prepared" food.
