ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Dallas Seavey overcame killing a moose and receiving a time penalty to win the Iditarod on Tuesday, a record-breaking sixth championship in the world’s most famous sled dog race. However, he was ultimately given a two-hour time penalty because he only spent 10 minutes gutting the moose, officials said. Race officials disqualified Burke on Feb. 19. But the state of Alaska then dropped charges alleging he choked his then-girlfriend in 2022, and the Iditarod Trail Committee reinstated him. The committee also disqualified Sass without explanation, other than pointing to a rule governing personal and professional conduct, and race officials refused to discuss it during a media briefing ahead of the race.

We booked one of Disney World's most affordable hotels. Carly CaramannaI've stayed at every Disney World hotel, and to keep within budget for this trip, we stayed at my favorite affordable resort, Wyndham Lake Buena Vista. Even though it's one of the cheapest Disney World hotels, I found it to offer a complete resort experience, like on-site dining, bars, a coffee shop, and an expansive pool complex. As an official Disney World hotel, our stay came with free transportation to the theme parks, which saved us money on costly ride-share services. We booked three rooms to share for two nights, and each night only cost about $100.

Welcome to the first full week of the general election. At this point, the days remaining before President Biden and former President Donald J. Trump mathematically secure their nominations are a formality. Fresh off a State of the Union address on Thursday that buoyed many Democrats’ spirits regarding his campaign, Mr. Biden is barnstorming several of the states that will decide the election in November, looking to make his case to voters. Mr. Trump also held a rally on Saturday in Georgia, where he vilified migrants, repeated his lie that the 2020 election was stolen, called journalists “criminals” and mocked Mr. Biden’s stutter. On the Democratic side, Georgia, Mississippi, Washington and the Northern Mariana Islands will vote — and Democrats abroad will finish their weeklong process — but Mr. Biden can’t formally lock up his nomination until next week.

(AP) — The U.S., Canada and several indigenous groups announced a proposal on Monday to address the pollution from coal mining in British Columbia that's been contaminating waterways and harming fisheries on both sides of the border for years. The proposal would be executed through a century-old U.S.-Canada boundary waters treaty, establishing independent boards to study the pollution’s extent and make cleanup recommendations. It comes after indigenous groups in British Columbia, Montana and Idaho lobbied for more than a decade for the federal governments in the U.S. and Canada to intervene and stop the flow of pollution. The proposal calls for no more than two years of study to gauge the extent of pollution. Investigators in Canada found Teck Resources Limited discharged hazardous amounts of selenium and calcite from two coal mines north of Eureka, Montana.

At the end of January, the Arizona senator reported holding nearly $10.6 million cash on hand in her campaign account and another $466,000 in her leadership PAC. AdvertisementNow, it's far from clear what will happen to those "resources" — Sinema's campaign did not respond to Business Insider's request for comment last week on the matter. There are a few different ways this could play out if Sinema decides to keep a "zombie PAC" running. Elizabeth Warren and Michael Bennet once introduced a bill to crack down on "zombie PACs." Advertisement"A lot of people use that to stay in the game because a leadership PAC is kind of a slush fund.

Even before she announced her campaign for Senate in Arizona, Kari Lake, a Republican and a favorite of former President Donald J. Trump, has been on a mission to make peace. But now, looking to wrest a seat from Democrats in a key presidential battleground, Ms. Lake is courting former foes and trying to mend fences. In addition to her public overtures, Ms. Lake has reached out privately to establishment Republicans in the state in recent months — including some she personally offended — seeking their support. In some cases, Ms. Lake has expressed regrets about her past behavior, one of the people said. “I think you clearly see a genuine effort to bring more Republicans into the fold.”

Denmark is not a socialist country, but it has strong welfare safety nets, like a free healthcare system that people must pay into. AdvertisementDenmark has 'free' healthcare, but it isn't efficientDanish people pay high taxes to support a healthcare system that is becoming less effective. The social aspect of the Danish system doesn't work efficiently anymore, so patients are choosing private hospitals instead. The idea is to discourage people from consuming these products and then relying on the free healthcare system for treatment. The Danish work less and take more time away to reinvigorate their creativity.

My mom and my aunt are estranged, but I've been close with my aunt since I was young. That year my aunt and I decided to start writing letters since I didn't have my own phone. I've never known exactly why my mom and aunt don't talkWhen I asked my mom why we didn't see her, she'd vaguely reply, "She was always kind of mean to me," or, "We just don't." As my aunt and I began to speak more, I gathered breadcrumbs of what happened between her and my mom. After graduating from Catholic school, my mom abandoned religion, yet my aunt consistently attends church.

From a historical perspective, this was the worst February since 2009, which saw 186,350 announcements as the worst of the financial crisis was seemingly coming to an end. "As we navigate the start of 2024, we're witnessing a persistent wave of layoffs," said Andrew Challenger, the firm's labor and workplace expert. Layoff announcements at financial firms have risen 56% compared with the first two months of 2023. LAS VEGAS (AP) — A visit from a rare, fine-feathered tourist has interrupted one of Las Vegas’ prominent shows. Initially, the Bellagio's fountain shows were paused while officials figured out how to proceed, an MGM Resorts International spokesperson told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Wildlife officials determined that the bird wasn't bothered and the show was cleared Tuesday to resume, but a spokesperson later said the shows would remain on hold. The Associated Press sent an email Wednesday seeking updated information from an MGM spokesperson, including when the shows might resume. The bird likely sought shelter from a storm, Nielsen said, noting that it isn’t uncommon for migratory birds to visit the valley.

Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, an Arizona independent, announced Tuesday she will retire at the end of her term this year, blaming growing partisanship and mudslinging in Washington for driving her decision to not run for reelection. “I believe in my approach, but it’s not what America wants right now,” Sinema said, in a video announcing her decision. Democratic Rep. Ruben Gallego of Arizona and former Arizona Republican gubernatorial nominee Kari Lake are among the candidates who had been seeking to challenge Sinema. Sen. Steve Daines of Montana, who chairs the Senate GOP’s campaign arm, told CNN that Sinema’s decision not to run for reelection will help Lake’s candidacy. Senate Republicans initially demanded that any foreign aid package be passed along with border measures, but ultimately turned against the border deal and blocked it amid harsh criticism of the package from former President Donald Trump.

Senator Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona said on Tuesday that she would not seek re-election, ending more than a year of speculation about her political future and clearing the race for a traditional matchup between the eventual Democratic and Republican nominees. “Because I choose civility, understanding, listening, working together to get stuff done, I will leave the Senate at the end of this year,” she said in a video announcement. Ms. Sinema, a first-term senator who left the Democratic Party in 2022 to become an independent, faced potentially long odds in another race. Her decision to bow out of the race now sets up a showdown directly between Representative Ruben Gallego and the eventual Republican nominee. Kari Lake, the former nominee for governor — and a close ally of former President Donald J. Trump who has championed his baseless election fraud theories — is the leading candidate in the Republican primary, though Mark Lamb, a sheriff, is also running.

The legendary white button down shirt that cemented Colin Firth’s reputation as an on-screen heartthrob in “Pride and Prejudice” is expected to fetch thousands of dollars at auction. Firth immortalized Jane Austen’s Mr Darcy in the BBC adaptation of the book in 1995. Eamonn M. On Saturday morning, residents of South Jordan, Utah, about 20 miles south of Salt Lake City, woke up to an astonishing sight. Thousands of tumbleweeds had blown into town and piled up against people’s homes overnight. In some cases, the tumbleweed jumbles reached the rooflines or upstairs balconies of people’s homes, said Rachael Van Cleave, the city’s public information officer. “It was quite a sight to see,” she said. Tumbleweeds also blew en masse into South Jordan’s neighbor city of Eagle Mountain, and across stretches of open land and highways in Nevada and western Utah.
