UNIFIL – the UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon – has called the violations “shocking.”Israel has accused Hezbollah of operating in areas near UNIFIL posts. On Friday, two UNIFIL troops were injured after two explosions occurred close to an observation tower. The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) was established by the UN Security Council following Israel’s first invasion into southern Lebanon in 1978. The UNIFIL troops are tasked with monitoring border violations and keeping the area, which includes Hezbollah strongholds – secure. While UNIFIL is a peacekeeping mission, troops can use force in certain circumstances, including self-defense, to protect civilians under the imminent threat of violence and to protect UN personnel facilities and equipment.

"China's growth recovery and north Asia's earnings rebound in 2024 remain our key investment themes and overweight areas," Goldman Sachs' strategists, led by Timothy Moe, wrote in a Saturday note. Asia-Pacific markets opened higher Monday, as investors assessed China's weekend press briefing and awaited a slew of economic data this week from the region. Both metrics missed expectations of economists polled by Reuters, who estimated CPI to rise 0.6% and PPI to decline 2.5%. China is set to release its trade data for September on Monday, with exports expected to rise 6%, a slower growth than 8.7% in August, while imports are estimated to grow 0.9%, compared to 0.5% in August. China watchers also look ahead to the week with a busy set of economic data, including China's third-quarter GDP, September industrial output growth, retail sales and unemployment rate.

Actor Simu Liu blasted a pair of Quebec entrepreneurs last week who went on Canada’s version of “Shark Tank” to pitch a drink they say has “transformed” boba tea. Sébastien Fiset and Jess Frenette, founders of a bottled popping boba and alcoholic bubble tea brand called Bobba, were seeking $1 million in exchange for 18% of the company. Their products include cans of alcoholic bubble tea, as well as grab-and-go packets of popping boba. “Dragons, you have probably heard about bubble tea,” Frenette said before Liu quickly interjected with a sarcastic: “I’ve never, has anyone else heard of bubble tea? Not everything has to be traditional.”Fiset responded by saying Bobba’s popping boba makes the drink “not an ethnical product anymore.” Minhas agreed that the popping boba was new, saying she’d never experienced it.

Both Afghans are believed to have wanted to carry out the operations on behalf of ISIS, the officials said. French officials said the Afghan charged there was 22 years old but declined to name him. They also did not identify two other individuals who were also taken into police custody in France for questioning and released. Two sources with knowledge of the matter later told NBC News that Tawhedi worked as a security guard for the CIA in Afghanistan. Former President Donald Trump called Democrats and others who have opposed or investigated him "the enemy from within" in an interview that aired Sunday, describing them as more dangerous than major foreign adversaries of the United States, including Russia and China. "I always say, we have two enemies," Trump said, adding, "We have the outside enemy, and then we have the enemy from within, and the enemy from within, in my opinion, is more dangerous than China, Russia and all these countries." Trump added that a "smart president" could handle outside adversaries "pretty easily," but "the thing that's tougher to handle are these lunatics that we have inside, like Adam Schiff." House Republicans have joined Trump in his ire against Schiff, who is leading in the California Senate race against former baseball player Steve Garvey, a Republican. Mueller's report found no explicitly coordinated effort between Trump's campaign and Russia to influence the election.

The 15th-century explorer Christopher Columbus was a Sephardic Jew from Western Europe, Spanish scientists said on Saturday, after using DNA analysis to tackle a centuries-old mystery. Other theories range from him being a Spanish Jew or a Greek, to Basque, Portuguese or British. They compared them with those of known relatives and descendants and their findings were announced in a documentary titled “Columbus DNA: The true origin” on Spain’s national broadcaster TVE on Saturday. After analysing 25 possible places, Lorente said it was only possible to say Columbus was born in Western Europe. On Thursday, Lorente said they had confirmed previous theories that the remains in Seville Cathedral belonged to Columbus.

AUSTIN, Texas — Mauricio Pochettino arrived at Q2 Stadium to see posters and banners with his face around the grandstand and behind a goal. Pochettino was given a contract through the 2026 World Cup that the U.S. will co-host and is tasked with sparking a team that has not reached the World Cup quarterfinals since 2002. But when a new coach is coming, for sure a victory, and that’s what happened,” Panama coach Thomas Christiansen said. Mexican referee Katia Garcia was believed to be the first woman to referee a U.S. men’s national team match. Goalkeeper Zack Steffen, who hasn’t played for the U.S. since the last World Cup qualifiers in March 2022, did not dress because of what the U.S. Soccer Federation said was a minor injury.

And this is a matchup that could happen again, in two months, thanks to the expansion of the College Football Playoff. Ohio State had the game’s only turnover. Since these teams first met 66 years ago, Ohio State won the first nine matchups, but Oregon has claimed the last two. In previous eras, Saturday would have effectively served as a knockout game for the loser’s chances of advancing to the College Football Playoff. But Saturday’s back-and-forth result was an example of why the expansion of the playoff this year — to 12 teams — could endure as a good thing.

Three plays into the annual Red River Rivalry, Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers threw an interception. First-ranked and undefeated Texas was on its back foot against Oklahoma, the team the Longhorns were expected to beat handily. Gunnar Helm #85 of the Texas Longhorns dives for a touchdown during the second quarter against the Oklahoma Sooners at Cotton Bowl Stadium in Dallas on Saturday. Harder to discern is how much the Longhorns’ rout of Oklahoma revealed about the strength of Texas as a national-title contender. Life in Texas’ previous conference, the Big 12, meant that beating Oklahoma was the toughest hurdle to reaching the conference title game.

Phnom Penh, Cambodia AP —Thirteen pregnant Philippine women accused of illegally acting as surrogate mothers in Cambodia after being recruited online may face prison terms after they give birth, a senior Interior Ministry official said Saturday. The law was updated in 2016 to ban commercial surrogacy after Cambodia became a popular destination for foreigners seeking women to give birth to their children. The surrogacy business boomed in Cambodia after it was put under tight restrictions in neighboring Thailand, as well as in India and Nepal. She said the seven Philippine women and four Vietnamese women who were caught in the raid but who were not pregnant would be deported soon. The 13 pregnant women have been placed under care at a hospital in Phnom Penh, said Chou Bun Eng.

Tens of thousands of evangelical Christians gathered on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., on Saturday to pray for America’s atonement and for Donald Trump’s return to the White House. Organizers of the “A Million Women” event billed the gathering — and next month’s presidential election — as “a last stand moment” to save the nation from forces of darkness. For hours, the gathered masses sang worship songs, waved flags symbolizing their belief that America was founded as an explicitly Christian nation and prayed aloud for Jesus to intercede on behalf of Trump in November. “If we don’t stand now,” said Grace Lin, who traveled from Los Angeles for the rally and came wearing a red “Make America Great Again” hat, “then the enemy will take over our country. If that happens, that’s the end.”

Restoring power, clearing debris and distributing fuel are now the top priorities in Florida as the state continues to reel in the wake Hurricane Milton. Parts of western and central Florida continue to face the risk of significant flooding in creeks and rivers continue to rise. In a “major” flood stage, the agency expects “extensive inundation of structures and roads,” with the possible need to evacuate people and transfer property to higher elevations. Water levels are expected to continue rising in the coming days, posing a major flood risk in low-lying parts of the county, officials said.
