Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday tempered expectations about the timeline of a potential hostage deal with Hamas, while the White House expressed hope for an agreement to take shape in the coming days. It's too soon to say if they've abandoned them," Netanyahu said on CBS' "Face the Nation." Progress on the new deal gave the White House renewed hope that a final agreement could emerge as soon as this week. Netanyahu said that while he hopes the hostage deal can come to fruition, Israel is planning military operations in the event that the agreement falls through. He said that the hostage deal, and the accompanying temporary ceasefire, would delay the Rafah attack.

From that moment on, we became childhood best friends, and now we are trying to rekindle that friendship in college. Over the last two years, my 12-year-old son has become increasingly consumed with going to the woods near our home. But just like many other tweens, he's also asked, "Can you get me a cellphone?" We bought him a pocket knife. He mostly keeps the knife in his pocket when he heads outdoors, only bringing it out when a project calls for a sharp object. As for the pocket knife, when it's not in use or at the bottom of his camo pants pocket, it stays safely displayed in his bedroom, a token of independence and ingenuity.

The House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party sent a letter on Saturday to Elon Musk demanding that U.S. troops stationed in Taiwan get access to SpaceX's Starshield, a satellite communication network designed specifically for the military. The letter, obtained by CNBC and first reported by Forbes, claimed that by not making Starshield available to U.S. military forces in Taiwan, SpaceX could violate its Pentagon contract, which requires "global access" to Starshield technology. The letter requests that Musk provide the House committee with a briefing on its Taiwan operations by March 8. Taiwan has been governing itself independently of China since the island split from the mainland during the 1949 civil war. "I think I've got a pretty good understanding as an outsider of China," Musk said on the All-In Podcast.

CNN —Having struggled with infertility, I’ve spent nearly all of the past 10 years focusing solely on creating life. Our two children were conceived in Alabama through in-vitro fertilization (IVF), the science of creating, freezing and attempting to implant embryos in my womb. And although IVF is very much a wonder of modern science, as a Christian, I believe it is a gift from God. Women who miscarry an embryo implanted through IVF may wonder if their actions are illegal, and if so, whether they will be prosecuted. I’d like to know how many of the justices who conferred personhood on embryos know someone who had to create and miscarry multiple embryos in order to finally have a child.

President Biden’s re-election campaign ended January with nearly $56 million on hand, extending his cash advantage over former President Donald J. Trump, whose campaign had about $30 million available at the end of the month. That is a jump for Mr. Biden, who ended 2023 with $46 million in his campaign coffers, and a tick downward for Mr. Trump’s campaign, which had $33 million on hand at the end of the year. Mr. Biden appears to have gained an edge in part because the Democratic Party apparatus, and its fund-raising might, have quickly unified behind him in what is expected to be the most expensive presidential race ever. Mr. Trump, even as he seeks to bring the Republican Party fully on board with his renomination, faces significant questions about the political and financial impact of his many legal troubles. The apparent disparity in campaign cash, laid out in filings with the Federal Election Commission on Tuesday, does not tell the whole story of how the president and the man he beat in 2020 are raising and spending money as they barrel toward a likely rematch in November.

Mr. Trump, even as he seeks to bring the Republican Party fully on board with his renomination, faces significant questions about the political and financial impact of his many legal troubles. For one thing, both Mr. Trump and Mr. Biden are raising money through joint fund-raising committees, which do not have to file reports until April. Mr. Trump, on the other hand, is still fending off a primary challenger, Nikki Haley. And, perhaps more critically, committees backing Mr. Trump are spending millions each month on legal expenses. Mr. Trump faces four criminal indictments along with civil cases, which are proving costly.

A Tennessee-based company employed at least two dozen children as young as 13 to work overnight shifts cleaning dangerous equipment in slaughterhouses, including a 14-year-old whose arm was mangled in a piece of machinery, the Labor Department said on Wednesday. The department filed a request on Wednesday for a temporary restraining order and injunction in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Iowa against the company, Fayette Janitorial Service LLC. It provides cleaning services at slaughterhouses in several states, including Iowa and Virginia, where the department said an investigation had found that the company had hired children to clean plants. The Labor Department opened its investigation after an article in The New York Times Magazine reported that Fayette had hired migrant children to work the overnight cleaning shift at a Perdue Farms plant on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. A spokesman told The Times in September that the company was unaware of any minors on its staff and learned of the 14-year-old’s true age only after he was injured.

As healthcare startups dive headfirst into building artificial intelligence products to sell to hospitals, a new report suggests many health systems don't yet have policies to support the tech. In a survey of 34 US health systems leaders, only 16% reported having systemwide policies for AI usage and data access. Some health system leaders said they haven't developed policies because the industry is in the early stages of AI adoption. The White House plans to announce new sanctions against Russia in response to the death of the high-profile Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny last week, National Security Spokesman John Kirby said Tuesday. "In response, at President Biden's direction, we will be announcing a major sanctions package on Friday of this week." Kirby noted that the new sanctions will build on the ongoing effort to stifle Russia's economy, while also adding specific restrictions over Navalny's death. The aftermath of Navalny's death comes while Congress is on recess and a $95 billion aid package with significant Ukraine funding remains deadlocked. Kirby said that Navalny's death highlighted the need for Congress to end the stalemate and pass the funding package to bolster Ukraine's defense against Russia.
