During a virtual roundtable, we asked Business Insider's Workforce Innovation board to tell us how AI would transform companies over the next year. How will the most innovative companies be transformed by AI over the next 12 months? Last year, we had an AI challenge across the company, and a huge percentage of our employees participated. There are a lot of different points of view on what AI will and will not do and how quickly. And that the promise we think AI is going to deliver will probably take longer than we think to come to fruition.

Researchers have now used DNA analysis to uncover just how long ants have been farming fungi, now described in a study published Thursday in the journal Science. To trace the evolution of this relationship between ants and fungi, Schultz and his colleagues built complex family trees. Using the DNA from 475 species of fungi, including 288 species known to be cultivated by ants, the researchers pieced together how all these organisms are related. The study team did the same thing for 276 species of ants, including 208 species of fungus farmers. Ants began farming fungi 66 million years ago after an asteroid hit Earth, according to a new study.

When Jyoti Bansal made "the hardest decision" of his career — selling his software startup AppDynamics for billions — he did it with his employees in mind. As the startup's founder and chairman, Bansal would've become wealthy either way — but only one of his two options guaranteed the same for many of his staffers, he says. Upon Bansal's acceptance of the offer, roughly 400 AppDynamics employees saw their shares of the company rise in value to at least $1 million, a spokesperson for Bansal says. Today, he's the CEO and co-founder of two other software startups, Traceable and Harness, the latter of which was most recently valued at $3.7 billion in 2022. At least 70 of the company's 80 employees became millionaires on paper when VeriSign's stock soared two years later, Chaudhry said.

In today’s edition, we examine how Donald Trump is making baseless claims of "election interference" as he faces federal charges himself. Trump casts 'election interference' label on everything while facing federal chargesFormer President Donald Trump has never stopped propagating falsehoods that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from him. This year, Trump and his campaign have cited more than a dozen examples of so-called election interference activities by Americans to claim the coming election is being unfairly manipulated. The latest instance came after the judge overseeing his federal election interference case in Washington released a redacted filing from special counsel Jack Smith. “The Democrat Party is guilty of the Worst Election Interference in American History,” Trump wrote Wednesday on social media.

Billionaire Jared Isaacman spent 2½ years training for a historic 10-minute spacewalk — while simultaneously running a nearly $8 billion company. Isaacman, 41, financed and commanded a SpaceX mission last month that featured the first-ever all-civilian spacewalk, during which he personally floated outside a Dragon space capsule. Isaacman, who has an estimated net worth of $1.5 billion, says he didn't take a leave of absence during those two-plus years of training. The trip was Isaacman's second space venture: In 2021, he financed and led the SpaceX team that became the world's first all-civilian crew to reach orbit. Once in space, the crew worked around the clock, conducting dozens of research experiments in five days while monitoring the capsule and its systems.

Over the 12-month period ending June, about 2 of 3 active bond managers trounced their average passive counterpart, according to a recent analysis from Morningstar . There were a few tailwinds in active managers' favor. With the Fed recently cutting rates by a half point — and Chair Jerome Powell noting that two more quarter-point cuts could be in the cards this year — a new challenge awaits these active bond funds. As interest rates fall, active managers can position accordingly, said Roger Hallam, global head of rates at Vanguard. "We expect active managers to make a little more, and they should be because they're doing more trades and it costs more to manage active portfolios," said Olmsted.

It comes amid speculation that Israel could be planning to launch a retaliatory attack on Iran targeting its oil infrastructure — a prospect which would likely deliver a rude awakening to bearish energy market participants. Iran, which is a member of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), is a major player in the global oil market. So much so, it is estimated that as much as 4% of the world's supply could be at risk if Iran's oil infrastructure becomes a target for Israel. That, of course, would add a significant risk premium to oil," Schieldrop said. Situated between Iran and Oman, the Strait of Hormuz is a narrow but strategically important waterway that links crude producers in the Middle East with key markets across the world.

Despite return-to-office mandates at Amazon and Dell, the tech world still appears to favor hybrid work. Experts say hybrid work boosts recruitment and retention and could be crucial amid tech talent wars. But while it may seem like workers are losing the battle for remote work, research suggests that hybrid work is still the norm in the tech industry. While some large companies, such as Nvidia, have remained holdouts, most Big Tech companies have had hybrid policies of various degrees. So as long as productivity stays up, I think hybrid work is here to stay in the tech world."
