DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — Bracing itself for a retaliatory strike for last week’s ballistic missile attack, Iran has been urging its Arab neighbors not to allow Israel to use their airspace as part of any potential attack, two diplomats from Gulf nations told NBC News Friday. Israel has vowed to respond to the strikes and while the nature and timing of the attack remain unclear, Iran warned countries that do help Israel in any way could potentially become part of a war, one of the diplomats said. His death came days after several Hezbollah leaders were killed by exploding pagers and walkie-talkies, an attack which Israel was widely believed to have been behind. Both militant groups are backed by Tehran and Pezeshkian has portrayed Iran as “exercising restraint” because it waited for two months after Haniyeh's death before launching the attack on Israel. NBC News has reached out to the Israel Defense Forces for comment but has not received a response.

After the first attempt to assassinate Trump, in July, foreign leaders quickly moved to offer him their well-wishes. — In their first and only debate of an unusually competitive Maryland Senate race Thursday, Prince George's County Executive Angela Alsobrooks and former Gov. Larry Hogan sparred over the issue of abortion and whether the deep blue state would be best represented by a staunch Democrat or an anti-Donald Trump Republican. Hogan distanced himself from the former president and current GOP presidential nominee, framing himself as someone willing to put "country over party." Alsobrooks dismissed that frame, arguing that a vote for Hogan would mean a vote for a Senate Republican majority that would threaten abortion rights and support for Ukraine. A new analysis identified several ways that the West can disrupt Russia's artillery supply chain. Analysts said the West needs to go after Russia's foreign imports before it's too late. Despite international sanctions meant to cripple Russia's war machine, Russia has maintained an edge over Ukraine when it comes to artillery production and rate of fire. AdvertisementThe analysts at RUSI said that the West needs to disrupt the industries that are keeping Russia's deadly and destructive howitzers firing before it's too late for Ukraine. However, the analysts said, "the longer the war continues, the more Russia's dependencies on foreign suppliers will become a weakness."

At least that seems to be the message — both symbolically and stylistically — embedded in Kamala Harris’ second ever Vogue cover. It's the vice president's second cover for the title. Annie Leibovitz/VogueThe image, by fashion photographer Annie Leibovitz, is a far cry from Harris’ first Vogue cover back in November 2021. Annie Leibovitz/VogueThis time around, though, neither Vogue nor Harris’ team seemed concerned with signposting her authenticity and approachability (Harris’ viral meme-ridden campaign seems to have handled that). But for most Harris’ fans, the second Vogue cover is something of a full circle moment — righting the perceived “wrongs” of the first.
