CNN —A man armed with guns and explosive devices was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound at a Colorado amusement park, potentially averting “an attack of devastating proportions,” officials said. The 20-year-old’s body was found in a women’s bathroom Saturday morning before the scheduled opening time of the Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park in Glenwood Springs, the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office said. Investigators also found a “very well-put-together” fake IED in Medina’s car, in addition to a real explosive device, Vallario said. Patches affiliated with law enforcement groups were found, the sheriff said, but investigators don’t know how Medina got them. With the volume of weapons, ammunition and explosive devices Medina had, he “could have done a tremendous amount of damage,” the sheriff said.

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (AP) — Four people sustained non-life threatening injuries when a shooter opened fire inside a Brazilian restaurant south of San Diego, police said. Authorities believe the shooting resulted from a dispute between two groups of people and the suspect fled before officers arrived. Chula Vista police did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday. Investigators do not believe the shooter had any other intended targets or that there was a continued threat to the shopping mall. Tyler Christopher, an actor best known for his long-running role on the TV soap opera “General Hospital,” has died. A former co-star, Maurice Benard, said on Instagram that Mr. Christopher had died Tuesday morning in his San Diego apartment because of a “cardiac event.” Mr. Christopher’s death was also confirmed by his manager, Chi Muoi Lo. Mr. Christopher won a Daytime Emmy Award in 2016 for best lead actor as Stefan DiMera on “Days of Our Lives,” another soap opera. He is best known for playing Nikolas Cassadine on “General Hospital” from 1996 to 2016, while also appearing in several other TV shows and movies. “Tyler was a sweet soul and wonderful friend to all of those who knew him.”

Frank Howard, a four-time All-Star who slugged 382 home runs during a lengthy major league career that included a World Series title with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1963, has died. CNN —Glaciers in East Antarctica could lose ice faster in the future than previously thought, scientists reported Friday, in an alarming feedback loop where glacier meltwater is triggering even more ice loss and sea level rise as the planet warms. Together, these and other recent studies paint a dire picture of a melting southern continent that poses extreme risk of life-altering sea level rise around the world. Friday’s study factored that feedback into simulations to see how much it could accelerate Antarctic melting and sea level rise. Measuring this phenomenon and accounting for it in climate models is necessary “to get a realistic picture of global sea level rise,” Greenbaum said. “Given this evidence, subglacial melt and discharge is a process that can no longer be ignored in future projections of Antarctica’s contribution to sea level rise,” De Rydt told CNN.
