A portfolio of stocks booted from indexes would make an investor 74 times wealthier between 1991 and 2023, the research said. Authors Rob Arnott and Forrest Henslee announced the creation of NIXT, a fund that tracks deletions. The firm's founder and investing legend Rob Arnott and vice president Forrest Henslee wrote that stocks dropped by an index outperform for at least five years with remarkable persistence. After being deleted from an index, nixed stocks can outdo the market by an average of 5% a year. When an index decides to remove an asset, it's essentially creating excessive selling momentum, Arnott wrote.

CNN —Elon Musk said an attack on X delayed his interview with former President Donald Trump by 42 minutes. But Musk also blamed mistakes by X’s staff for the snafu that prevented people from joining the stream. On his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump had called DeSantis’ technical difficulties on X a “disaster,” which Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign reposted during the meltdown Monday night. But when people tried to access the Trump interview at the scheduled 8 pm ET start time, they were greeted with grayed out screens and were unable to join. Eventually, the interview began, and both X and Musk claimed it was a success.

On Tuesday, Biden highlighted $150 million in new research awards to eight organizations, including $23 million to Tulane University, the backdrop for the announcement. I know we can, but it’s not just personal — it’s about what’s possible,” Biden said Tuesday. And the White House will also look to ramp up its diplomatic engagement with India, an ally that has become a critical partner to the US in countering China’s aggression in the region. “We want to create a more prosperous and secure Indo-Pacific and the world,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said. Implementation awaitsDomestically, the White House remains focused, first and foremost, on getting money out the door and shovels in the ground on Biden’s signature legislative measures.

U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris and Republican presidential nominee and former U.S. President Donald Trump. Former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris both want to end taxes on tips — and some policy experts have already criticized the idea. Her comments come roughly two months after Trump shared a similar idea, also at a rally in the service economy hotbed. Generally, tipped workers are lower-income individuals, and some 37% weren't subject to federal income tax in 2022, the report found. Not taxing tips is "a fairly narrowly targeted tax exemption," said Garrett Watson, senior policy analyst and modeling manager at the Tax Foundation.

Ever since Vice President Kamala Harris entered the presidential campaign three weeks ago, polls and campaign finance data have shown how the race has changed. She has come from behind to build a small lead over former President Donald J. Trump in national polls and in several swing states, and she raised far more money than he did last month. Now, new voter registration data in two swing states adds to the evidence that Ms. Harris’s candidacy has energized potential Democratic voters.

Whatever other obstacles Mr. Trump and his campaign have faced, more voters have tended to trust him with the economy than the Biden-Harris ticket. According to at least one poll, though, voters’ attitudes may have changed. In a new survey conducted for The Financial Times, by a single point, Vice President Kamala Harris edges out Mr. Trump on the question of who voters trust more to handle the economy. But Ms. Harris’s slight edge on the economy in that Financial Times poll exists in the context of the numbers that came before it. To see the shift from Mr. Trump winning on the top issue to it being a jump ball will be an eye-opening finding if it is replicated in other polls.

But now that Harris is Trump's official 2024 opponent, more and more Republicans are urging the former president to back off the name-calling — including his former campaign manager Kellyanne Conway. Conway, a regular Fox News contributor, told Fox Business host Larry Kudlow on Monday that Trump needs to stop getting caught up with insults against Harris. Advertisement"The winning formula for President Trump is very plain to see," Conway told Kudlow on Fox Business. "But I believe importantly that President Trump is right that she's a chameleon. The parallels between 1968 and 2024 are uncanny. Joe Biden has become the first president since Lyndon B. Johnson to forgo seeking another term — and Kamala Harris, like Johnson’s vice president, Hubert Humphrey, has been elevated without having won any mandate in party primaries. There are, of course, vast differences. Democrats are far more united behind Harris than they were around Humphrey; there will be no contested convention this year, no war for delegates. And Richard M. Nixon, a darkly introspective child of the working class, was not Donald Trump.

Eric Gibson, then president of Ultra Machining Company, recalled asking Walz whether the Democrat believed that high corporate and state taxes hurt workers. Amplify, a coalition of progressive groups, released its first digital ad supporting Vice President Kamala Harris’s bid for the White House, part of a $25 million voter outreach campaign targeting Democrats and disaffected independents in battleground states. The ad reflects a unified message from the left that the organizations began testing in the 2022 midterms, and which they say helped blunt what had been expected to be a sweeping victory for Republicans. The members of the coalition said they plan to spend $1 million on the ad’s release. The theme has been widely used by Democrats since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade that year. Ms. Harris, who has long made discussion of abortion rights a major part of her stump speeches, has also fashioned the freedom theme into a core part of her campaign’s message.

Freed from the campaign trail and the grinding pursuit of another term, President Biden traveled to New Orleans on Tuesday to focus on a project close to his heart: the “moonshot” effort to sharply cut cancer deaths in the United States that he carried over from his time as vice president and has become a hallmark of his presidency. Speaking at Tulane University, Mr. Biden and the first lady, Jill Biden, announced eight research centers, including one at Tulane, that will collectively receive $150 million in research awards aimed at pioneering new methods of precision cancer surgery. Before addressing a crowd on campus, the president and the first lady met with a team of researchers who demonstrated the technology under development at Tulane. It uses imaging of cells on tumor sites to verify for surgeons that cancer cells have been fully removed and to reduce the need for follow-up surgeries. Standing in front of a sign reading “curing cancer faster,” Mr. Biden described touring cancer centers in Australia and Ireland, and being frustrated by a lack of international collaboration.

Weeks after it was posted, the video is not labeled with a “community note,” X’s community fact-checking feature that Musk used as justification for slashing the company’s trust and safety team. In a letter, the secretaries urged Musk to “immediately implement changes” on the X platform. New York residency is especially important to Mr. Kennedy because his running mate, Nicole Shanahan, lists California as her home. Mr. Kennedy, 70, an environmental lawyer, spends most of his time at a home in Los Angeles that he shares with his wife, the actress Cheryl Hines. “New York has been his residence continuously since 1964, and Mr. Kennedy has deep ties to it,” Mr. Savino said in the statement. Mr. Kennedy revealed the bear-dumping in a video he posted on social media just before a critical New Yorker profile that included the same anecdote was published. After the bear story became public — resulting in a barrage of public criticism and mockery — Mr. Kennedy sought to fire back, placing a post on X.com on Tuesday, attacking the “mainstream media.”“The more you smear me,” Mr. Kennedy wrote, “the more I’ll keep speaking.”

You know, Hillary Clinton, who was, I think, kind of a terrible candidate, won the popular vote by two points. So I don’t think they gave her a very good hand to play. It doesn’t matter who you are, it matters that you’re right and you’re able to prove it or bet on it in some way. What wasn’t in the Harris model that should have been?” “Yeah, maybe you really can meme your way to victory. And there’s something in it that I don’t think she can explain how she does it, but it makes her a fascinating leader.

Trump’s plan for blunting Harris’ momentum, some Democrats believe, could reprise elements of the 1988 presidential campaign that George H.W. “I think the Harris campaign has to be prepared for it.”The two sides are already hotly contesting the terrain of strength. Celinda Lake, a Democratic pollster who conducted surveys for Biden’s 2020 campaign, said his strength deficit to Trump had become a nearly insurmountable obstacle for his 2024 campaign. The surveys have also found a huge gender gap in the assessments of whether Harris and Trump are strong. Most important, voters have reached these initial assessments of Harris’ strength before Republicans have really begun their campaign to portray her as weak.
