"We're pleased to be part of early discussions to help frame this initiative, and I am happy to announce Canada will be joining as a full member," Joly will tell diplomats on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, according to a draft of her speech seen by Reuters. "Canadians will be impacted by decisions made in the Indo-Pacific region and we want to be at the table," she plans to say on Thursday afternoon at an event hosted by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, the source said. The company reported $1.56 in earnings per share on $2.45 billion of revenue. Eli Lilly — The pharmaceutical stock climbed 4.2% after UBS upgraded Eli Lilly to buy from neutral. KB Home – Shares of homebuilder KB Home slipped 4% after the company reported earnings that disappointed Wall Street's revenue expectations. The company reported $3.13 in adjusted earnings per share, below the $3.20 anticipated by analysts, according to Refinitiv.

CNN —The world has never been in a better position to end the Covid-19 pandemic, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director-general of the World Health Organization, said in a news briefing in Geneva on Wednesday. “Last week, the number of weekly reported deaths from Covid-19 was the lowest since March 2020,” he said. “We have never been in a better position to end the pandemic. The United States reported the highest number of weekly deaths followed by Japan, Russia, Brazil and the Philippines. Overall, there have been more than 6.4 million deaths reported globally as of September 11.

During the Vietnam War, US troops were supported by forces from several allied countries. The role of the Australian Special Air Service Regiment (SASR) and the New Zealand Special Air Service (NZSAS) was especially notable. From 1966 to 1971, these two special-operations units deployed a small number of commandos to support conventional forces in Vietnam. Gradually, however, they shifted to a more aggressive stance and started going after high-value North Vietnamese and Viet Cong targets in ambushes and direct-action operations. Special operators from the two countries had fought with the British against Communist insurgents in Malaya and Borneo.

It's addressing slowing growth by cracking down on password sharing and introducing an ad-based plan. Netflix said on Tuesday that it lost 970,000 subscribers in the second quarter of the year, and it now has 220.67 million global subscribers. It's blamed its slowing growth on a number of factors, including economic strains, password sharing, and increased streaming competition. While it lost subscribers for the last two quarters, Netflix is bullish about Q3 and forecasted adding 1 million subscribers during the time period. It was already testing ways to monetize password sharing in other Latin American regions.

The Quad, or the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue, comprises four big, democratic economies: the United States, Japan, India and Australia. The Quad countries have cooperated in areas ranging from health and infrastructure development to military exercises —most notably the Exercise Malabar naval war games, which have developed into a permanent feature of the Quad. That includes being an effective counterbalance to China's dominance in the Indo-Pacific region. "What the Quad countries individually and collectively have been concerned about is about China's behavior," Tanvi Madan, director of The India Project at the Brookings Institution, told CNBC.
