Digital natives like Gen Z may appear to be more open to using AI than older workers. Gen Xers and millennials employed in the US were found to use ChatGPT at work more than Gen Zers. Surprisingly, the consulting giant found that older American workers appear to be more open to using AI than their younger counterparts. For some Gen Zers, using AI has helped in their jobs. While some studies find that generative AI has saved hours of work, others suggest that using ChatGPT can make workers perform worse.

NEW YORK (AP) — Pornographic deepfake images of Taylor Swift are circulating online, making the singer the most famous victim of a scourge that tech platforms and anti-abuse groups have struggled to fix. Sexually explicit and abusive fake images of Swift began circulating widely this week on the social media platform X. The deepfake-detecting group Reality Defender said it tracked a deluge of nonconsensual pornographic material depicting Swift, particularly on X. Some images also made their way to Meta-owned Facebook and other social media platforms. “The images may be fake, but their impacts are very real," Morelle said in a statement.

GPT-3.5 Turbo has become the industry standard among other AI models seeking to compete with OpenAI's accuracy and brand recognition. AdvertisementOpenAI is also introducing an updated version of the GPT-4 Turbo preview model, the company said this week. The update comes about three weeks after OpenAI reopened sign-ups for its subscription model, ChatGPT Plus, which is powered by GPT-4.

In the UK, research by Fenimore Harper Communications found more than 100 deepfake video ads impersonating Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Facebook. Though it's not clear exactly who is behind the deepfakes in the US and UK, the recent proliferation of AI means almost anyone with internet access and an AI tool can cause some havoc. Earlier this month, OpenAI unveiled its plans to prevent the misuse of AI ahead of this year's elections.

The researchers tested Binoculars on large sets of data compiled of news writing, creative writing, and student essays. As generative AI tools like ChatGPT explode in popularity, concerns have grown about students using AI to complete academic work while passing it off as their own. At the same time, many students have been wrongly accused of using AI, based on results of AI detection tools. Last year, schools and universities began disabling such AI detection tools. The researchers claimed Binoculars' method corrects for the role a person prompting an AI tool plays in the output, which has been pointed to as a cause for false positives in AI detection tools.

Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai departs federal court on October 30, 2023 in Washington, DC. Appen, based in Australia, has helped train AI models for a star-studded list of tech behemoths. Five customers — Microsoft , Apple , Meta , Google and Amazon — have in the past accounted for 80% of Appen's revenue. Alphabet accounted for roughly one-third of Appen's revenue, meaning the decision to end the relationship will impact "at least two thousand subcontracted Alphabet workers," according to a statement Monday from the Alphabet Workers Union. Alphabet has cut contractual ties with Appen , the artificial intelligence data firm that helped train Google's chatbot Bard, Google Search results and other AI products.

In fact, "data centers are taking a disproportionate amount of incremental capacity being added by electrical equipment manufacturers." Much of the energy data centers consume is used to train AI models as well as to run them. Natural resources, power supply, funding — the necessities that allow for the existence of the data centers — aren't exactly infinite. The company's business took off last year as data centers began to need more electrical equipment capacity and generated more heat. TravelPerkBarcelona-based startup TravelPerk, which helps automate corporate travel and expenses, has raised $104 million in fresh funding from Japanese tech investing giant SoftBank and a flood of other names, to invest in artificial intelligence development and new products. SoftBank invested $70 million in TravelPerk's latest round, which the company said was an extension of its "D-1" funding round. The fundraising round shows SoftBank is placing a major bet on a company driving disruption in corporate travel through new technologies, such as AI — which has seen significant buzz since the November 2022 launch of OpenAI's ChatGPT. Whereas many travel agents operate on low single digits gross margins, Meir says that TravelPerk's profit margin stood at 60% last year. Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, during a panel session at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, on Jan. 18, 2024. Altman was temporarily booted from OpenAI in November in a shock move that laid bare concerns around the governance of the companies behind the most powerful AI systems. "We're already seeing areas where AI has the ability to unlock our understanding ... where humans haven't been able to make that type of progress. "I believe that America is gonna be fine, no matter what happens in this election. Trump won the Iowa Republican caucus in a landslide on Monday, setting a new record for the Iowa race with a 30-point lead over his closest rival.
