Mack Trucks, founded in Brooklyn, New York, in 1900, is renowned for its 18-wheelers, diesel-powered big rigs with a trademark bulldog mounted on the hood. Purchase-making decisions are distinct for consumer and commercial markets, a difference reflected in last year's EV sales results within both sectors and outlooks for future growth. EV sales increased year over year by 40% in the fourth quarter, yet were down from 49% in the third quarter. Cox expects this year's EV sales to reach 1.5 million, about 36% higher than last year. Eighty EV truck deployments were cataloged in 2020, and those deployments jumped to 1,948 in 2022.

From The Searle Freedom TrustThis year, the Searle trust is poised to play an even bigger role as it empties out its coffers. Researchers who study political nonprofits say that the Searle trust has had a major impact, even as the Searle family has stayed under the radar compared to more well-known conservative benefactors. The Searle trust is one of the most prolific funders of conservative groups among all private foundations, according to a CNN analysis of nonprofit tax data. The Searle trust has given millions to the Foundation for Government Accountability, which has worked behind the scenes to push conservative policies such as stricter voting laws. Dennis, the CEO of the Searle trust, is also the chair of DonorsTrust.

By then, he had sold his short-term rental property for a profit, but he still owned other long-term rentals. Therefore, they used the real-estate professional status and bonus depreciation to reduce their taxable income. The main one is through the short-term rental tax loophole (STR loophole). For example, Eileen pointed to Henderson, Nevada, which won't allow a short-term rental permit for a house if there is a permit for an existing short-term rental within 1,000 feet. Deductions would cancel out the taxes owed from the property's revenue, and what is left will reduce your W2 taxable income.

When Shawn Fain, the United Automobile Workers president, unveiled the deal that ended six weeks of strikes at Ford Motor in the fall, he framed it as part of a longer campaign. “One of our biggest goals coming out of this historic contract victory is to organize like we’ve never organized before,” he said at the time. “When we return to the bargaining table in 2028, it won’t just be with the Big Three. It will be the Big Five or Big Six.”Four months later, the first test of that strategy has come into focus, and it features a Volkswagen plant in Chattanooga, Tenn. watch nowMore than three-quarters of Americans, 77%, say the unavailability of pensions is making it harder to achieve the American Dream, according to a new report from the National Institute on Retirement Security. With the shift from pensions to 401(k)s, the responsibility for saving for retirement has transferred from employers to workers. "When not managed properly, defined benefit plans can end up like Ponzi schemes," Greszler said at Wednesday's Senate hearing. Neither Social Security nor multiemployer pensions can pay benefits as promised, she noted. To shore up Social Security, the average American household would have to pay at least $3,000 per year more in taxes, money that would better be invested in personal accounts, Greszler argued.

DETROIT – Ford Motor is rolling out Tesla Supercharging capabilities to owners of its electric vehicles in the U.S. and Canada. The Detroit automaker was the first to announce a deal with Tesla to utilize the EV maker's Supercharger network. Under the deals, companies such as Ford will adopt Tesla's charging port for future EV models. In the meantime, an adapter is needed to connect non-Tesla vehicles, which utilize different charging technology, to Tesla's network. Toyota, the originator of the hybrid car craze in the early 2000s, is poised to reclaim its crown as the king of green cars. This, paired with the success of Tesla and overall investor enthusiasm for EV technology, left Toyota looking like a laggard. AdvertisementDespite years of criticism, it appears that Toyota might have had the right idea after all. Shoppers in the market for a hybrid are also much more likely to pony up more cash for these cars. Toyota has spent the last several years releasing more hybrids and plug-in hybrids, while refusing to give up on the nascent hydrogen fuel cell technology that many of its competitors have largely abandoned.

CNN —A Marine rapid response force is expected to leave the eastern Mediterranean Sea in the coming weeks and return to the United States, according to two defense officials, in a significant reduction of US forces in the region. The Marine rapid response force first deployed in July and was sent to the region in October. It had previously been extended to remain in the eastern Mediterranean Sea, as CNN reported. The US has maintained an aircraft carrier or amphibious assault ship in the eastern Mediterranean Sea since shortly after the October 7 attacks in Israel. The Ford carrier strike group, which had been extended several times, left the eastern Mediterranean Sea in early-January, replaced by the Bataan amphibious ready group and the Marine rapid response force.

Over the past few months, America’s Big Three automakers — Ford, General Motors and Stellantis, the oddly named company that owns Dodge, Chrysler and Jeep — landed in big trouble. Ford, General Motors and Stellantis made billions in profit last year, even after a lengthy strike by autoworkers, and all three companies are forecasting a big 2024. The biggest threat to the Big Three comes from a new crop of Chinese automakers, especially BYD, which specialize in producing plug-in hybrid and fully electric vehicles. BYD’s growth is astounding: It sold three million electrified vehicles last year, more than any other company, and it now has enough production capacity in China to manufacture four million cars a year. A deluge of electric vehicles is coming.

Forget Tesla , the real competition in electric vehicles is low-cost Chinese automakers. Farley wants to be prepared even if the U.S. government were to step in to curtail Chinese automakers' access. Outlook Ford investors shouldn't be concerned in the short term since Chinese EV competitors won't enter the market overnight. To that end, a group of lawmakers has urged the White House to boost tariffs on Chinese vehicles and figure out a way to be "prepared to address the coming wave" of Chinese vehicles by way of U.S. other trading partners. The cost of production will become more efficient, resulting in a more competitive and hopefully profitable Ford EV product.
