CNN —Two people were killed and five others were wounded in a shooting in Washington, DC, early Sunday morning, police said. The shooting was reported around 3 a.m. near the intersection of 7th and P St., Northwest, near the Kennedy Recreation Center, according to the Metropolitan Police Department. The victims, all of whom were described as being adults, have been taken to local hospitals, Metropolitan Police Executive Assistant Chief Jeffrey Carroll said in a media briefing. It’s unclear who opened fire or what led up to the shooting, which took place about a dozen blocks northeast of the White House. “We’re asking anyone who may have any information related to this incident or may have witnessed it to contact the Metropolitan Police Department,” Carroll said.

In 2023, Amtrak revived hopes for the bullet train in the Texas Triangle, when it announced its intention to broaden its partnership with Texas Central. The Texas Central project has been repeatedly delayed as its backers navigate various regulatory hurdles, including environmental reviews and disputes over property rights. The proposed alignment for the Texas high-speed rail project crosses Morney-Berry Farm, which Berry's family has cultivated for generations. And in late 2023, Texas Central received a Corridor ID program grant to study the route's potential for partnership with Amtrak. The backers of Texas Central declined repeated requests from CNBC for a comment on the project's progress and expected completion date.
