Overall, the research suggested that the hobbit species’ small size remained remarkably constant over a long period. “Every tiny fragment of Homo floresiensis or any other hominin is incredibly important,” Tocheri said.

CNN —Hamas announced Tuesday that its leader in Gaza, Yahya Sinwar, will replace Ismail Haniyeh as the head of its political bureau, it said in a statement. The Iranian government and Hamas say that Israel carried out the assassination. A longtime figure in the Islamist Palestinian group, Sinwar was responsible for building up Hamas’ military wing before forging important new ties with regional Arab powers as the group’s civilian and political leader. He was elected to Hamas’ main decision-making body, the Politburo, in 2017 as the political leader of Hamas in Gaza branch. However, he has since become the Politburo’s de facto leader, according to research by the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR).

Nine staff members who worked for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees may have been involved in the Oct. 7 attack on Israel, according to a now-completed investigation conducted by The Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS). Since then, Israel declared war on Hamas and has killed over 40,000 people in Gaza, according to officials there. A total of 19 UNRWA staff members in Gaza were investigated by the OIOS for allegedly being involved in the attack, Lazzarini said. In one case, no evidence was found to support that the staff member in question was involved in the attack on Israel, according to Lazzarini.
