UPS plans on hiring 100,000 seasonal workers to beef up its workforce for the holiday season. Working as a seasonal employee can be the first step toward a $170,000-per-year pay package. Thanks to a new contract for UPS workers that was negotiated by the Teamsters union, some full-time UPS drivers are now earning a pay package worth $170,000 a year, including benefits. Hourly pay will start at $23 for seasonal package drivers and $21 for package handlers. Despite increased pay for the seasonal UPS workers, the job market is still tight, and it's uncertain how challenging it will be to find workers, Lavery said.

Put it this way: If our story is that Fed tightening will produce a recession, we’d expect that to work mainly though housing, the usual channel. Indeed, Fed hikes led to a big rise in mortgage interest rates, which hit 7 percent almost a year ago and have fluctuated since then. Coy: Paul, you were right to call out those who thought we needed a punishing recession to get inflation down. The labor market has held up surprisingly well, which is wonderful. Sincerely,Cut-OffDear Cut-Off,AdvertisementAdvertisementI'm afraid your wife withholding your credit card is already dramatic, which means it's too late to get ahead of "a big drama." For example, you might say, "When you don't allow me access to our credit card, I feel demeaned and controlled, and I worry I'm repeating old patterns." Keeping an open mind doesn't mean you agree not to use the credit card anymore. Kevin O'Leary probably made over 20 times his money from one "Shark Tank" investment. The celebrity investor backed Basepaws, a startup selling at-home genetic tests for cats, when it was pitched on "Shark Tank" in 2019. O'Leary said on "The Daniel Mac Show" earlier this year that among his "Shark Tank" investments, Basepaws was his biggest winner in percentage terms. If O'Leary paid $125,000 for a 5% stake, he would have made about $2.4 million or 20 times his money, ignoring any dilution. This coming week, as the network fall television season gets underway, ABC will begin airing “The Golden Bachelor,” a spinoff of “The Bachelor” that centers on an offbeat twist: The main contestant is a 72-year-old man, and the 22 women vying for his affection range in age from 60 to 75. On Sunday nights, the network will carve out three hours for “The Wonderful World of Disney,” a television tradition that dates back to the 1950s. On Tuesdays, there’s “Dancing With the Stars.” On Wednesdays, there will be special prime-time episodes of decades-old standbys like “Wheel of Fortune" and “Jeopardy!”It’s no secret that network television ratings have plummeted in recent years as viewers have fled prime-time lineups in favor of stream-at-your-leisure outlets like Netflix and Hulu. But there’s one notable exception, a segment of the audience that has effectively become the broadcast networks’ core constituency: people over 60.

Photo: HondaOUR TEST CAR this week is an alluring bit of technology, jumping out of the new-for-2024 cake wearing the skimpiest of price tags. The electromechanical thingamabob aboard the Honda Accord Hybrid Touring ($38,985, as tested) represents late-stage petroleum brilliance, a design that renders conventional stepped transmissions obsolete and consigns traditional CVTs (continuously variable transmissions) to the moaning hell they deserve. The sedan wrapped around it is also pretty wonderful.
