August 6 - The Philadelphia Phillies would like to see this version of $300 million shortstop Trea Turner -- and their suddenly Turner-supporting fans --- on Sunday and for the rest of the season. After a grassroots support campaign for Turner -- roughly organized by Philadelphia radio station WIP -- Phillies fans greeted Turner with a standing ovation before his first at-bat in Friday's series opener. Turner added an RBI double in the eighth to provide an insurance run, drawing another ovation from fans who will see Turner in Philadelphia through 2033 under his 11-year contract. "Roller coaster is obviously the first thing that comes to mind," Turner said after Saturday's win. Turner is 1-for-6 in his career against the 39-year-old Greinke (1-11, 5.32 ERA), who opposes Philadelphia right-hander Taijuan Walker (12-4, 3.99) on Sunday.

"I’m just very happy, we worked very hard," South Africa’s stand-in captain Bongi Mbonambi said. "It is always tough to come and play here in Argentina. It was a proper test match but this was a good game for us before the World Cup." And they got another shortly afterwards as Libbok’s cross-kick was collected by wing Moodie and he had an easy run-in to score. Aug 5 (Reuters) - South Africa coach Jacques Nienaber faces a difficult few days as he finalises his 33-man Rugby World Cup squad after admitting several fringe players put themselves in contention for selection ahead of Tuesday’s announcement. Constant chopping and changing has been a feature of Springbok sides this season as Nienaber cast his net wide. "We have given 38 players the opportunity to play (in four games) and it is going to be a very difficult squad selection meeting. "We had to get our stuff in order to grind out this victory," Nienaber admitted. "The World Cup will be so close and so tight, where any team can beat any other on the day, so discipline will be a big issue."

CNN —This week, by far the most feverishly discussed outfit didn’t come from a member of the Kardashian clan or an off-duty model. Instead, it was Kristina Avakyan (known on TikTok as @subwaysessions), a New York resident who pushed the boundaries of style with a look that was anything but average. In a TikTok that’s now been watched over 1.9 million times, Avakyan paces across her runway (the 6 train subway platform) in what has become a deeply polarizing outfit. The outfit has been seen over 1.9 million times on TikTok and 62 million times on Twitter this week. The phrase “#personalstyle” has more than 858 million views on TikTok, and in 2022 the New York Times fashion critic Vanessa Friedman wrote about how to capture it.

The U.S. dollar index , which gauges the currency against a basket of six counterparts, edged 0.06% lower to 102.39 in Asia. On Thursday, it had pushed to the highest since July 7 at 102.84 at one point, but lost steam later in the day with the monthly nonfarm payrolls report looming on Friday.
