Following Saturday’s last-gasp victory against South Sudan, the USA were forced to once again fight deep into the game – this time against a determined Germany team. But some things never change, and yet again it was LeBron James who put on a late show to lead Team USA to a fifth win out of five during the USA Basketball Showcase. Germany tried to rally back in the second, but Team USA ended the quarter strongly. “We was tested by a great Germany team, they was world champion last year, so it was a good test for us. “I’m glad we was able to, once again, keep our composure, persevere like we did the other day versus South Sudan.

The German construction sector is showing no signs of recovering, even after being in a crisis for months and despite pledges of support and investment from the government. Recent economic data shows the industry is still in a "dismal situation," Carsten Brzeski, global head of macro research and chief economist for Germany at ING, told CNBC. The data shows that between January and May of this year, permits for single-family homes fell over 31%, and those for multi-family houses declined over 21% compared to the same time period last year. Felix Pakleppa, head of the Central Association of the German Construction Industry, noted the bleak outlook for the sector. "Building permits in Germany continue to only know one direction: downwards," he said, pointing to the data, which has not reflected growth since April 2022.

CNN —For many nations — not least the US — the upcoming Paris Olympics will take place against a background of deep political and social division. If you saw any of the European Athletics Championships events last month, you may well have been struck, as I was, by just how many Black athletes featured on podiums. At the Summer Olympics, the USA team will also feature numerous Black athletes, including gymnast Simone Biles, sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson and the (current) fastest man on earth, Noah Lyles. As you watch the Olympics this summer, take note of the sports in which Black people represent the USA and European countries. So no, Black athletes are not naturally better at some sports — they take the narrower opportunities open to them and work incredibly hard on their self-belief to make it to that podium.

(Photo by Jeremy Moeller/Getty Images)BRUSSELS - EU antitrust regulators on Tuesday launched an investigation into German online food takeaway firm Delivery hero and its Spanish unit Glovo on concerns that the two companies may have taken part in an online food delivery cartel. Delivery Hero held a minority share in Glovo in 2018 and acquired sole control in July 2022. "The Commission is concerned that, before the takeover, Delivery Hero and Glovo may have allocated geographic markets and shared commercially sensitive information," the EU watchdog said. "Online food delivery is a fast-growing sector, where we must protect competition," EU antitrust chief Margrethe Vestager said in a statement.

Such a system would entail a collection of agents that work together to solve tasks in a distributed and collaborative way, according to Capgemini. Brier said the so-called AI agents fall into two types: individual agents that carry out tasks on your behalf, and multi-agent technology or, "agents talking to agents." In 2023, the number of firms adopting generative AI was 6%, according to Capgemini, but this year, that number has risen to 24%. According to the report, 10% of firms with an annual revenue of $1 billion to $5 billion are implementing generative AI. In aerospace and defense, 88% of organizations have invested in generative AI, for retail, that number drops to 66%.

CNN —Veteran environmentalist Paul Watson was arrested in Greenland on Sunday and faces possible extradition to Japan allegedly over anti-whaling activities in the Antarctic years ago, his organization said in a statement. The ship John Paul DeJoria and a 25-member crew were en route from Dublin, Ireland to the North Pacific to intercept Japan’s newly launched $48 million factory whaling ship the Kangei Maru, CPWF said. In a statement, Greenland police said they arrested Watson upon his arrival in Nuuk due to a Japanese arrest warrant. His foundation believes the arrest “is connected to a previous Red Notice issued for Watson’s anti-whaling activities in the Antarctic.”“This development comes as a surprise since the Foundation’s lawyers had reported that the Red Notice had been withdrawn. “Japan has never given up on its whaling ambitions,” Watson told CNN at the time.

The impact of these deep strikes has been eye-opening for Europe and the US, opening "Pandora's box" for more of these capabilities, a nuclear weapons and arms control expert told Business Insider. Several European nations have reintroduced or expanded compulsory military service amid Moscow’s mounting threat, part of a range of policies aimed at boosting defenses that are likely to be scaled up even further. Compulsory military service was reintroduced on January 1 this year, after being abolished in 2006. In the UK, the Conservatives floated the idea of military service in their ill-fated election campaign. In Lithuania, for instance, opinions about military service among students vary, said Paulius Vaitiekus, president of Lithuania’s National Students’ Union. However as an alliance we do not prescribe mandatory military service,” Dakhlallah said.

Former US President Donald Trump told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky “not to believe the ‘fake news’” that his possible reelection would help Russia, the Ukrainian president’s press secretary said Saturday. The two also talked about the latest Russian attacks on Ukraine and “agreed in principle” to hold a joint meeting, he said. The phone call between Trump and Zelensky marked their first conversation since the former president left the White House, and came the day after Trump formally accepted the Republican Party’s nomination for president. Trump’s newly minted running mate, Ohio Sen. JD Vance, is a staunch critic of sending support to Ukraine. Trump on Friday said he “had a very good phone call” with Zelensky, while the Ukrainian president said he wished Trump “strength and absolute safety in the future,” and “noted the vital bipartisan and bicameral” US support for Ukraine.

Gigacasting is a form of die-casting — pouring materials like molten aluminum into large molds to form parts. For example, the front and rear portions of the early Model 3 chassis each contained more than 70 parts, according to Tesla. Reducing weight ultimately means more range for the customer, and substituting one large megacast for dozens of stamped parts reduces labor and boosts production, he said. Severinson views repair as a solvable challenge: "There is a solution to repairing also a casted rear floor," he said. Security experts said CrowdStrike's routine update of its widely used cybersecurity software, which caused clients' computer systems to crash globally on Friday, apparently did not undergo adequate quality checks before it was deployed. The latest version of its Falcon Sensor software was meant make CrowdStrike clients' systems more secure against hacking by updating the threats it defends against. Patrick Wardle, a security researcher who specializes in studying threats against operating systems, said his analysis identified the code responsible for the outage. It's unclear how that faulty code got into the update and why it wasn't detected before being released to customers. Other security companies have had similar episodes in the past.
