CNN —Union Berlin’s head coach Nenad Bjelica was sent off for twice pushing Bayern Munich forward Leroy Sané in the face during a feisty Bundesliga encounter on Wednesday. As players and coaching staff rushed in to separate the pair, Bjelica again put his hand in Sané’s face. On the pitch, Bayern Munich was keen to hit back after losing to Werder Bremen last time out. Despite all its first-half dominance, Bayern began to creak as the game wore on and Union Berlin had a number of chances to equalize. The referee waved away the protests from Union Berlin’s players and Bayern managed to hold on for an important win.

Britain’s media has reacted with fury and bewilderment after a US scientist claimed the perfect cup of tea is made with a pinch of added salt. “I guess we are going to war again?” legal journalist Molly Quell wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. “We cannot stand idly by as such an outrageous proposal threatens the very foundation of our Special Relationship,” the embassy wrote in a viral X post. Francl also found little sympathy in the British press, which took her suggestion with more than a pinch of salt. In the meantime, the embassy said it “will continue to make tea in the proper way – by microwaving it.”

I'm 44 years old and going through perimenopause. I've had all the expected symptoms, but the hardest to manage has been rage. To be frank, they're all pretty horrible and uncomfortable, but so far, I've been finding ways to manage. However, the one symptom that crept up on me with no warning whatsoever has been pure, unadulterated rage. AdvertisementI just wish we could talk about perimenopause more.

The update was partially to assure people that DoD wasn't "building killer robots in the basement," a senior official said. The US and some of its adversaries are making rapid progress on AI weapons, with lots of controversy in the mix. Last year, DoD updated its directive on autonomy in weapons systems, which was originally published back in 2012. AdvertisementThe move reflects the US' growing interest and progress in developing AI weapons systems. Other nations, however, had hoped to use the UN as a platform to propose restrictions and limit how autonomous weapons operate.

TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) — The co-chairs of the U.S. Congressional Taiwan Caucus on Wednesday opened the first trip by U.S. lawmakers to the island where the independence-leaning Democratic Progressive Party won a third straight term in presidential elections this month. China, America's chief competitor for global influence, claims Taiwan as its own territory and threatens to use force to bring it under its control. While China regularly sends warplanes and navy ships to intimidate and harass Taiwan, there was no discernible spike in activity on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Defense Ministry reported seven Chinese warplanes and five naval vessels had been detected near the island over the previous 24 hours. It also said two Chinese balloons flew over the island's northern and southern regions.

Read previewFive minutes a day might be all it takes to add healthy years to your life, according to a longevity specialist. You can link existing habits to healthy changes like a quick exercise session, a moment of deep breathing, and more. One technique is a simple exercise of focusing on your breath as you inhale for a count of four, hold for a count of seven, and exhale for a count of eight. Research suggests that gratitude not only improves mental health, but can also protect your physical health through factors like reducing blood pressure. "This can be a really powerful framework to not only add more years to your life, but more life to your years."

On December 22, the UN Security Council passed a resolution calling for further extended humanitarian pauses to allow more aid into Gaza. People carry some of their belongings as they walk to Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip on January 4, fleeing central Gaza. But even as foreign aid to Gaza rose in the wake of the Hamas takeover, the amount of aid fluctuates annually, OECD data shows. In 2018, the Trump administration cut about $200 million in Palestinian aid and halted contributions to UNRWA. Medicine for Israeli hostages and Palestinians entered Gaza last Wednesday after Qatar brokered a deal with Israel and Hamas.

Pushing back against accusations of antisemitism, Elon Musk has in recent months visited Israel, hosted Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at a Tesla factory in California and repeatedly insisted he bears no animus toward Jews. On Monday, he took his penitence tour to a new level, declaring himself “aspirationally Jewish” after a visit to the former Nazi death camp Auschwitz in southern Poland, where he lit a candle in memory of the millions of Jews murdered in the Holocaust. Mr. Musk, the owner of X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, stirred outrage — and an exodus of advertisers — in November when he endorsed an antisemitic post on X as “the actual truth.” The post accused Jewish communities of pushing “hatred against whites” and supporting the immigration of “hordes of minorities.”The White House denounced Mr. Musk for “abhorrent promotion of antisemitic and racist hate.”He quickly apologized for his intervention, saying “it might be literally the worst and dumbest post I’ve ever done.” He has been scrambling since to calm the outcry and halt the flight of advertisers.

The action by about 20 people signalled growing domestic dissent in the fourth month of the Gaza war. One woman held up pictures of three family members who were among the 253 people seized in the cross-border Hamas rampage of Oct. 7 that triggered the worst fighting in decades. Parliamentary ushers, often quick to eject hecklers or protesters, stood by during the ruckus in the Knesset Finance Committee. In one of my earliest memories, I am sitting in my teta’s (grandmother’s) lap. The scent of ripe figs fills the air with the calm satisfaction of late summer. CNN —Novak Djokovic has never been afraid to do things differently, so his latest revelation should hardly come as much of a surprise. “There is one particular tree that I have been having a special relationship with for the last 15 years,” Djokovic told reporters earlier this week, when asked about a tree locals have seen him meditating by. “That particular tree, I cannot reveal which one, I’ll try to keep it discreet for myself when I’m there to have my own time. But his love for trees – well, one tree in particular – had somehow gone under the radar until now. The best performance I had during this tournament,” said Djokovic in his post-match interview on court.
